Asking my best friend to be my girlfriend
From across the room, Evangel eyes took in the disheveled state of Trent's clothes and that left no doubt as to what he just did. It angered her so much when her heart clenched tightly from jealousy. Her attention was pulled away from Trent when someone hit the glass drawing everyone's attention and directing them towards the huge table set up in one corner of the room that has a huge birthday cake erected like a monument. It was time to cut the cake.
The guest all drifted closer to watch her dad cut the cake. Evangel looked away from Trent and joined in with the others
Trent's heart leaped in his chest when his eyes met the intense gaze of Evangel from across the room. It slightly confused his reaction at the sight of his ex. No female has ever made his heart leap. No, maybe he is still experiencing the adrenaline from his recent activity, but he couldn't blame that for the little guilt that filled him at the judgment in her eyes. He sighed and made his way to the rest of the guests. He stood behind the rest of the guests and took the glass that was being circulated for the toast.
" Hi, handsome, " a female voice said to him and Trent looked down to see a short blonde smiling up at him.
" I am Venice, " the woman said when she had his attention.
" Trent, " Trent said in a low deep voice, with a charming smile. The sight of a beautiful woman always brings out the charming personality in him and the one standing in front of him was sure stunning.
I know, Venice said with a cocky smile running her eyes over the man her sister was salivating over a few minutes ago.
Trent arched up against his brow at that. " I am Evangel's sister, " Venice explained seeing his gesture. " Didn't know Evangel has a sister. When they were dating he was sure that Evangel was an only child.
" Cousin, " Venice raking her eyes over Trent's face, her interest very obvious in her eyes.
" My bad, seems good looks run in the family, " Trent flirted his smile wide on his face.
" Charming, sweet tongue and good looks, my poor heart, " Venice teased with a flirty smile while eyeing him up like candy, she couldn't wait to eat up.
The sound of someone speaking in front interrupted their flirting and they had to pause to listen.
Evangel from where she stood watched her uncle, her dad's eldest brother, speak about her father with pride and love in his voice. After him, others said something before she was called upon to make a speech.
She made her way to the front as confidently as she could mutter without revealing how nervous she is to speak in front of the mini crowd.
" Hello, everyone thanks you for coming to celebrate with my father on his sixtieth, I must say that I have never met a man as great as my father and I am not saying that because he is my father, " Evangel said with slight humor eliciting a light chuckle from the guest. " He has been my anchor over the years especially since the death of my mother. " At that Evangel's voice dimmed, projecting her sadness at the loss of a mother she still misses despite the passing years before brightening up to finish her speech and then called for a toast.
When she was done there was around applause and when she was walking back her eyes caught that of her cousin talking and laughing with Trent and the bitter feeling filled her guts again, but she was quick to push it down as her dad was called forward to cut the cake.
Once again she was called, this time by her dad and the next name that followed made her falter as she was making her way to her dad standing by the cake. Why did her dad call Trent to join him in cutting the cake? she wondered.
" Dad what are you doing? " she whispered yelled to him when she stood beside him. Her dad ignored her and smiled at Trent that joined them.
Evangel wanted so badly to slap off the smug look on his face. He better not think just because her dad made a public acknowledgment that he has won, cause there was no chance in hell she is agreeing to marry him. Seeing him flirt shamelessly with her cousin and the wrinkles and lipstick stains obvious on his shirt showed her that he was still not over his philandering ways and she wasn't going to sign up for that.
Trent had been surprised when the old man called him to join him, and that had filled his heart with gladness. It means the old man was not buying the bullshit his daughter was selling. Standing beside the old man he could feel Evangel's eyes boring holes into his suit and turned to look in her direction. He winked when he noticed how furious she looked. She was stunning when she is mad, Trent thought as his cock twitched in his pants. He can't believe his desire is sparked soon after having it satiated not long ago. A smug smile filled his lips when he read the desire missed with anger in those striking blue eyes.
Trent has always been very perceptive especially when it came to women and the look in his eyes right now made Evangel wish she had hidden her feelings better. It will do her any good if she reveals to Trent that she still finds him desirable.
She quickly looked away before more of her feelings are extracted by those sharp brown eyes. Evangel flashed a plastic smile when the camera snapped before her dad finally cut his cake. Turning to her dad her smile became real. " Happy Birthday, Dad, " she said leaning in to hug him. Her dad hugged her tightly before whispering words that surprised and at the same time made her happy. " I want you and your girlfriend to have dinner with me tomorrow. "
Steven didn't want to believe that his only child was a lesbian. In his mind he has visualized so many times the day he will get to walk her down the aisle and he can't help feeling as if he had failed her and his wife, but one thing was more important to him than all his dreams of one day seeing his daughter settle down with the right man that will provide and love her like he did her mother was her happiness and so he was willing to indulge her in this slight detour from the norm until she has had her fill and return to what is right.
" Thank you, dad, " Evangel whispered before pulling away from him, her heart racing a thousand miles as she watched her dad make his way to his other guest. Now that it seemed that her idea has sold she now faces a new dilemma. She wasn't a lesbian neither do she have a girlfriend and a day is such a short time to find someone willing to pose as a loving girlfriend. She was so lost in her mind that she was startled when someone spoke up behind her. " Care for a dance? "
Evangel turned around to see Trent standing before her an intense look in his eyes as if he was daring her to say no. That was exactly the word she was going to say until he said something else.
Trent heard the old man say something to his daughter when they hugged after the cake and he couldn't help but be suspicious especially after the happy smile that appeared on her face afterward. He can't have the old man reconsider his offer of a merger with his company so he is going to use any means necessary to get Evangel on board to bring his fiancee. The old man's love for his daughter is so plain in his eyes and the way he talks about her so if he intends to get what he desires he needs to start thawing at Evangel's coldness where he is, and what better way than with dance.
Music was back on and people were beginning to fill the dance floor so he turned to the blonde who seemed lost to ask her for a dance. He saw her mouth opening to refuse him and said the very words he knew will guarantee him a positive response. " Unless you are scared that you still feel something for me. "
He was right he saw those blue eyes grow hard with determination to prove him wrong and a reluctant nod from the blonde granted him the opportunity of twirling the most beautiful woman in the room across the dance floor.
" You need to relax Angel. I know for a fact that dancing is one of your favorite things and we did make a pretty damn dance couple in the past, " Trent said making a referral to their partnership in dance class during high school. The very thing that got them together as a couple.
Evangel fumed at the reminder of their past. She moves forward and stepped hard on Trent's toes using the heel point of her shoes. " That is in the past and don't ever call me Angel again, only my friends and loved ones call me that and you most certainly are not any of those two, " Evangel growled darkly, glaring up at Trent.
Trent only smiled at the face of the blonde animosity, but he didn't attempt calling her the pet name again. He wanted her to remember how good they were together in the past but he knew not to push too hard, not yet. He continued to spin them around the dance floor along with several others and if he was being honest with himself he will say the blonde feels so good in his arms. His enjoyment was cut short when he felt someone tap him on the back.
Trent slowed to a stop and turned to see a tall good looking young man behind him. " May I? " he requested looking in Evangel's direction with a smile.
Trent was tempted to say no when he saw the smile blossom on Evangel's face at the sight of the young man. The absurdity of him being jealous was what made him release Evangel so fast as if she was a fire that just burned him. He was still lost in the confusion that for the first in his life that he just felt jealous because of a woman when someone tapped his back again. He turned and it was Venice.
" A dance? handsome, " Venice asked in a throaty tone. And smiled widely when Trent accepted her invitation.
Evangel allowed her cousin Tony, twirl her around the dance floor. She was grateful to him for rescuing her on time cause her body has started to recall how well of a dance partner Trent was, but when she caught sight of Venice taking her place in Trent's arms she looked up at Tony with a suspicious look. A guilty look appeared on his face and he couldn't meet her eyes. " Venice said to distract you, " he whispered looking down.
Evangel shook her head at her cousin. " Your sister does love to play with fire, " she whispered more to herself but her words were picked up by Tony. " What do you mean? " he asked slowing a bit. " Nothing, " Evangel answered softly taking a peek at her cousin and Trent. They seemed to be having a good time. She sighed and looked away. If her cousin wanted to flirt with fire she is welcome to have him.
Trent tried his best to ignore the cues the little blonde in his arms was giving him. It will be bad if he was to sleep with the cousin of the woman he is about to get married he told himself or tried to communicate to his raging libido which can't seem to discriminate between Evangel and the blonde vixen in his arms. He saw the old man walking in his direction and quickly pulled away from the blonde to receive him with a smile.
" I need to speak to you in my study, " Steven said seriously to Trent and walked away expecting him to follow which Trent did immediately.
Evangel saw her dad and Trent leaving the party and got curious as to what was going on. " Excuse me, " she said to her cousin and hurried away.
She met up with them just as they were about to disappear into his study. " Dad! " she called out heading in his direction
" Angel, " Steven said turning around to face his daughter. " Are you leaving already? " he asked when she got close.
" Yes, " Evangel said as her eyes moved from her dad to Trent before going back to her dad with questions in them.
" I and Mr. Wade have something to discuss, " Steven explained. " Don't forget our dinner plans, " he said pulling his daughter into a parting hug.
" I won't dad, " Evangel said softly with a peck to her dad's cheek. She stood aside and watched them disappear into the study wishing she was a fly so she could hear what they are discussing.
Sitting at the back of her car going home, Evangel was lost thinking of how to procure a girlfriend within the short notice her dad just gave her. She was almost giving up on the idea of masquerading as a lesbian since she wasn't sure she could find someone when an idea struck her mind.
She walked into the apartment she shared with her best friend screaming her name. Nothing came back to her except the sound of music playing. She followed it to her best friend's room and opened the door to see her dancing. She stood leaning against the door and watched as her best friend wine her wait from up till she went down. Evangel was entranced until the music was caught off and someone coughed. She startled off the door frame to see Clarice looking at her with her brow arched.
" You are such a beautiful dancer, " Evangel complimented casually as if she hadn't been caught ogling her best friend's ass.
" Thanks, " Clarice answered with a blush, and then looked up curiously when Evangel said she had a favor to ask. " What favor? "
" Will you be my girlfriend? "
