Chapter 14
DAWN DISENTANGLED HERSELF FROM Jacob as quickly as she could. "David-d I can-n explain" she stuttered, her words already failing her as she caught sight of the burning fury in his eyes.
"What the fuck is going on Dawn?!" he lashed, the vein in his forehead pulsating as his anger grew beyond measure.
"Please let's go" she begged as a few people nearby stood and began to stare, none daring to intervene.
"What's going on here?" Jacob jumped in, his masculine impulse making him straighten his shoulders. "Dawn, do you know this guy?"
"This guy?" David repeated, curling his hand into a ball as he finally looked up the idiot who had his filthy hands all over his wife.
"Look, I don't know who the hell you are but you have no right to waltz in here and harass her like you own the place"
"Fucking stay out of this" he gruffed and turned his attention back to Dawn. "We're leaving" he reached for her but Jacob stepped partially in front of Dawn and got in David's face.
"Get the fuck out of my face while I'm still being subtle" David warned through gritted teeth.
"Jacob" Dawn mumbled, knowing that if he didn't back off, this argument wasn't going to end with just words.
She tugged on his shirt lightly. "Please do what he says, please"
"Don't worry Dawn, I'll protect you"
He moved even closer to David, his shoulders broadening as he matched his intense glare. "Dude. I'm only going to warn you once. Keep your hands to yourself, and don't touch my girl"
"Your girl?"
"Yes, my girl"
David looked at Dawn. "So what? He's your man now?"
"No David, it's a misunderstanding" she answered immediately, trying to get between them but Jacob shoved her behind him.
"You should leave or I won't mind kicking your ass right here"
David chuckled. He took a step back and began to turn away and Dawn almost sighed, thinking it was over but before the blink of an eye, he reared back and threw all of his weight behind a punch that slammed into Jacob's nose.
"Oh my God!" She gasped, the loud cracking sound making her hand fall over her mouth as she swallowed up the light scream that erupted from her throat.
Jacob staggered back a few steps, his hand going to his nose in an attempt to ease the pain and stop the blood that oozed out and stained his teeth. "What the fuck man!" He spat and David shrugged a shoulder.
"Want more?"
"You bastard!" He charged at him and the two men collided, both holding on to each other's collars as they engaged in a fierce scowling contest.
"Stop!" Dawn yelled, coming between them. "Both of you just please stop!"
"He fucking started it!" Jacob blurted, grabbing his collar roughly.
David clenched his fist, his chest heaving up and down, knuckles split and bleeding. The mere thought of another man's hand on her body made him want to commit murder, the disgusting feeling pulsing through his veins made him want to Peirce his heel deeper until he spilled out his intestines.
"Don't you get it? This girl of yours is my fucking wife you clueless cunt" he spat, prying his hands off his collar and shoving him aside so that he was standing in front of Dawn. "We're leaving" he stated, grabbing her hand and pulling her out with so much force that she nearly stumbled and fell.
"Let me go, David!" She blurted the minute they stepped out of the bar.
David inhaled deeply and his eyes closed for a moment before letting her hands go. "Get in the car Dawn" he prodded.
"I don't want to"
"I said get in the fucking car!" He yelled, smashing his already hurting fist on the car's exterior.
Dawn stared at him for a few seconds and reluctantly entered.
He slammed the door, walked into his seat, and revved the engines before driving off in total silence.
Dawn stared out the window the whole time, preferring to gape at the black empty sky than look at him.
David on the other hand grabbed the stirring wheel tighter. It didn't matter how much he tried to toss the image aside, he just couldn't help it.
She was basking in the arms of another man and it wasn't the position in which he had caught them that hurt, it was the look of excitement in her eyes that shredded his heart. She enjoyed it, she enjoyed the sexual comfort of another man's warmth.
He suddenly pulled over and stopped the engines in the middle of the freeway.
"Why the hell was his hands all over your body?" He asked but Dawn didn't reply, rather, she continued to stare outside the window.
"I swear to God if you don't fucking answer me, I'll run this car into a bridge!"
"We were just dancing that's all nothing more"
"Just dancing?" You were fucking grinding against him and his hands were all over you Dawn"
She sighed. "Can you really blame me? If you had just given me the answers I asked for this could've been avoided and I wouldn't need to attend some stupid party just so I can stop thinking about you"
"Oh so now it's my fault. This is you paying me back? you could have as well slept with him to make a point. I'm sure things would've resulted in that eventually"
"Don't you dare talk down on me David"
"What? Do you get offended when I call you a whore? Isn't that what you'd call your display?"
"I am not a whore. I am not like you!"
"Well I certainly wasn't the one who snaked her body all over a man" he bit off.
"Look, why won't you just give me what I want, we've been on this issue for months now David"
"Do you think this is easy for me? Do you think I don't wanna fucking have kids too!"
"What's stopping you, David!" She asked, desperate for his answer.
"I'm scared Dawn, I'm fucking scared!"
"Of what?!"
"Of losing you!" He yelled. "Of losing you Dawn"
"You're not making any sense, how are you going to lose me. Talk to me, David, what are you so scared of?"
"Fuck!" He slammed his hand on the wheel. "That's not what matters right now Dawn, you were in the arms of another man knowing how much I loved and cherished you. You let him dirty dance with you, you let him touch you knowing your body belonged to me and I hate to share. You probably would've let him have his way with you!"
"David you don't-"
"Get out" he cut her short.
"David..." She looked at him and for the first time that night, her heart completely eviscerated seeing the hurt in his eyes.
When he spoke again, his voice was low and pained."I can't do this right now. I'm sorry but I can not be with you. I can't get the image of his hands on you out of my head and it's sickening"
He paused and turned to watch her eyes burn with tears. No matter how much he wanted to kiss and scold her for being heinous he couldn't, she'd hurt him and it was only fair she felt his pain.
"David, don't do this" she pleaded, finally realizing the damage she had caused with her unthoughtful actions.
"If you have an ounce of respect for me you'll do as I say and leave"
Dawn stared into his eyes, tears streaming down her face as she told him the absolute truth. "David I'm sorry, I've messed up please David, don't do this to me"
"Too late for that" he muttered, turning away without sparing her a second glance and realizing she had no other option left, Dawn stepped out —the cold wing immediately clinging to her exposed skin as she shivered.
David chanced a sideways glance at her."Don't wait up for me tonight, I won't be coming home"
With that, he drove off and Dawn watched, sobbing until she could no longer see a trace of his car.
What had she just done?

BEFORE DRIVING OFF,David thought for a moment about returning but he just couldn't shake the feeling of betrayal off his shoulders and it made his chest ache.
He topped up his speed and clenched the wheels, not caring if his knuckles turned white from his clutch.
Did she not understand how much he loved her and would kill for her?
It was sickening that she could do such a thing and he although he tried to understand, he just couldn't wrap his mind around the reasons behind her actions.
He doubled his speed again and shut his eyes for a moment.
Why now?
He tried to stop thinking about how It felt.
He tried to stop thinking about how unpleasant it looked.
He tried to clear his head, to calm his mind, to soothe his nerves but his attempts all seemed ineffective and by the time he opened his eyes to the road, his eyes lit up and he froze stiff.
One moment the road was there, wide open and safe, the next there was this bright shining light alongside a loud noise that nearly made his ears bleed.
Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. An RV came up the hill in the opposite direction, facing him promptly and with vehicles parked on both sides of the road, there was just a narrow passage area. However, David had yet to reduce his speed and upon impact, his head crashed into the windshield with such force that everything went dark.
He was engulfed in utter darkness, brain void of any thought and remembrance. Except one.
Dawn.
