2013 Retaliation(Chapter preview)
"Master, are you talking about Senior Sister Zhi Xuan? I heard Yan Ya mention it before." Sima You Yue said, "Master has always dwelled on her death, and you've been blaming yourself, right?"
"You could tell all of that from the tune I played on my zither?" Lu Yan did not deny it.
"Mostly, but the rest was just my guess." Sima You Yue said, "Master's longing did not possess that touch of emotion that lovers do, so I doubt that you liked her the way others say you did. Senior Sister has already died for so many years, yet Master is still unable to let go. The biggest possibility would be self-blame."
Lu Yan let out a soft sigh, "Back then, I knew that Mo Wei was restless, yet I still allowed her to follow everyone out. If she had stayed behind in the sect back then, that incident would not have happened."
"I don't know what happened back then, but Master, the matter has already passed for so many years. You should move on." Sima You Yue advised him.
"The way you comfort people is different from others. Others always say that this matter had nothing to do with me, that there is no need to blame myself, asking me to not think too much about it. Why do you ask me to move on instead?" The way she comforted him was as if what happened back then really was his fault. This was not the way to comfort someone.
"Yes, everyone has been comforting you this way, that's why you blame yourself even more. On the contrary, it traps you. No matter what the reason was back then, no matter whose fault it was, so much time has already passed. You should let it fade away with time."
"Let it fade away with time?" Lu Yan whispered.
"That's right, time is most capable of containing anything that happens in the world, especially the vicissitudes of what life permits. We will not know what will happen in the future, but for what happened in the past, we should just let the years take it away." Sima You Yue's voice was charming, as if she had seen the transformation of the world.
But it was true. She had even seen the origin and change of life, which could be considered as the transformation of the world. Moreover ,she had experienced a few near-death experiences, so she was more open-minded towards such things. She also spoke emotionally, so her words made one want to believe in it.
She realised that Lu Yan slowly entered a spiritual space, so she set up a barrier and retreated carefully. She told the guards outside, "Master has an enlightenment, do not allow anyone to enter and disturb him."
The guards were rather doubtful. Why would he have an enlightenment after talking to her for just a while? One of the guards was shocked when he went to the door to take a look. He saw that Lu Yan had truly entered a spiritual state, and that there was even a barrier over the house. He came out and nodded his head at the other guards, so everyone immediately entered a state of emergency, ensuring that from that moment onwards, no one was to enter the house until Lu Yan came out on his own!
Sima You Yue took her three kids and returned to her own courtyard. She did not even have the time to rest before a group of people came rushing in like a group of bees.
Fu Jing asked her the moment he came, "You Yue, what did you and Master talk about?"
"We just had a casual conversation. We didn't say much." Sima You Yue didn't think it would attract so much attention, even causing everyone to come and ask her about it.
"Casual conversation? Will a casual conversation lead him to have an enlightenment after he hasn't done so for decades? That he just happened to fall into a state of enlightenment today?" Mo Wei said sarcastically.
Sima You Yue felt angry, was she not insinuating that something happened between her and Lu Yan?
She laughed icily, "According to what Vice Sect Master is saying, I must have said or done something to Master?"
"You guys…" Mo Yue swallowed the words that she almost blurted out. If she really said what she wanted to, how would the others view her?
There were some words that she could think about, but could not say it out loud.
"What did we talk about?" Sima You Yue asked.
"At the moment the both of you were alone. What you guys said, or did, of course only the two of you would know." Mo Wei said with a cold expression.
"If that is the case, why did the Vice Sect Master not believe me when I said that we were just talking casually?" Sima You Yue said.
"I just feel that if you just had a casual conversation, how could it cause such a big effect?" Mo Wei defended herself.
"Vice Sect Master's, you can't say it like that. One can often fall into contemplation during a casual conversation. One sentence, one word, or even an image, a tree, a blade of grass, can lead to someone feeling emotional. Instead, it is when you try to force it that it may not have much effect.
"Sima You Yue is right, a state of contemplation often happens inadvertently." Fu Jing agreed with her view. "But can you tell us what you two were talking about?"
"Sure!" SIma You Yue told them what happened, starting from when Lu Yan played his zither, and repeated the conversation they had. Once everyone heard about what happened with Zhi Xuan, all of them showed an expression that showed they understood what happened.
It has been a long time since Lu Yan had advanced in rank. It was not because he lacked spiritual energy, but because he still had knots in his heart. This was something that everyone in the Music Sect knew.
In the beginning, nobody showed an interest in what happened with Zhi Xuan. However, over time, everyone started realising that something was not right. As time went by, the more Lu Yan was unable to let go, up till now, it had become something that could not be removed from his heart. If he could not untie this knot in his heart, he would not be able to advance in rank.
Lu Yan did not say much in the past, but they could guess, so they said a lot to him. They had also tried to advise him many times, but it was all of no use.
"After so many years, it is still because of Zhi Xuan." Fu Jing stroked his bread, "Although we guessed it, we were unable to help Sect Master untie the knot in his heart. I'm ashamed to even speak about it!"
