a man's night out
Chapter 8 (Aron's POV)
Surprisingly lunch wasn't as painful as I thought.
They did torture me with all kinds of embarrassing memories from my early years, but it was fun. Even if that fun was at my expense.
Now I was sitting in my office again but couldn't get the beauty that was sitting in front of it out of my head.
All I could think about ever since we returned from lunch, was how her hand accidentally brushed against mine from time to time. How our knees were touching all the time.
How her laugh made me feel lighter and happier than I was in years.
How her eyes sparkled with mischief when she was taunting me with the knowledge of my little secret.
She really was something special.
And I was starting to get scared of that fact.
Because if I wouldn't trade my way around her carefully, I could easily fall for her.
Hard and fast.
And love or falling for someone was something that simply wasn't in my cards.
When you love someone they leave you.
So it's better to keep everyone at arm's reach and keep up my cheerful mask.
That way no one can leave me and no one can hurt me.
Do you remember how I told you that I need a dog?
Well, maybe I don't need it.
But I would still get one. He or she can be my best friend and my companion so I won't feel so alone.
But what I really needed right now, was to get laid.
Because it was starting to be as clear as the sky on a sunny day.
I was horny!
There was no unusual attraction between me and Becky.
I was just horny, so my mind started coming up with ideas to get her into my bed.
Well, this time it will be a no-go.
So the only other option I had was to go out and find someone.
In a few moments I had a plan put together.
I picked up my phone and dialed one of my best employees and best friends.
"Hey boss man, how can I help you?"
"Hey Mason. I've told you a thousand times to stop calling me that but instead of stopping you taught Rachel to call me that as well. I have no idea why I still count you as one of my best friends."
Even though those words were said as seriously as possible we both knew I was kind of joking and we also knew Mason won't stop calling me boss man.
Why was I even trying at this point?
My thoughts were proved correctly when I heard his chuckle.
"Now, now. Don't get angry, boss man. It doesn't suit you. And you can also get wrinkles. And to answer your questions. First of all, I am one of your best programmers, I was by your side when Code hack almost went to hell, we saved each other's asses countless times, and I need to repay my debt. You know when you made me realize I was an asshole."
It was my time to chuckle at his words. I knew exactly what opportunity he was referring to but I couldn't pass up a chance to tease him a little.
"Which time exactly are we talking about? You know it happened many times that someone had to remind you, you're an asshole."
"Hardy-ha-ha. Now down to business. What do you need?"
"I know you are deep into this wedding planning but I was wondering if you'd have time for a friend to go out together. Grab some drinks or something like that?"
"You, my dear friend, are a lifesaver. Just tell me when and where and I'll be there."
We decided to meet at Vicky's restaurant around 7, which gave me enough time to go home and take a shower before meeting with Mason.
When I walked out of my office, Becky's desk was empty, which meant she had already left.
I felt both relieved and disappointed, but I pushed down this other side of me and focused on the relief.
It was better this way.
Less I saw her, the less possibilities for me to fall for her.
No!
Scratch that!
That was not a possibility at all. End of discussion.
I went home and got ready.
I was at Vicky's restaurant a few minutes too early, but it seems like Mason was used to this, because he was already waiting for me.
We went inside and straight to the bar.
We ordered our usual beer brew and some french fries to soak the alcohol in our system.
"So tell me. How is my sister doing? I hope you don't have any problems with her?"
"Nah man. Don't worry. She does her job perfectly and that's the only thing that matters."
Just when he was about to reply his phone rang.
He pulled it out and I knew right away it was Rachel because his whole face lit up.
"Hey sweetheart. Yeah we are at Vicky's. Sure, why not? Ok. I will be waiting. Love you too."
I looked at Mason with a raised eyebrow as soon as he finished his call.
"Sorry boss man. I guess I will have to cut our man night short. Rachel is coming so I can take her home. She has those sickness periods again."
"Don't they call it morning sickness?"
Mason's eyebrows shoot upwards in disbelief.
"Right? Why would you call it that if it comes at any time of the day!"
We kept on chatting while Mason waited for Rachel.
It was good to have a few hours with him even if he cut our night short.
After all, I couldn't be happier for him.
He got himself a good woman, was getting ready to get married and was expecting a kid.
What more could a man ask for?
Suddenly he stood up.
"They are here. See you tomorrow at the office boss man."
They?
Just when I was about to ask him about it, a female body stepped in front of me.
"Hey. I hope you don't mind if I replace Mason for a few drinks?"
I lifted my head only to be met with those blue sapphires I was trying to forget in all the alcohol.
"Nah. Be my guest. What would you like to drink tonight Becky?"
"Hmm. Whiskey on rocks sounds good."
If she doesn't get her drink fast I am sure I had another thing which was right now as hard as rocks.
