Chapter 1191 The Sorting Hat's New Song
At the door leading to the auditorium, Peeves stared with wide eyes and carefully observed every student who entered.
"This is not Wayne... This is not Wayne..."
As more and more students entered the auditorium, its expression gradually became ferocious.
Throughout last year, it had played almost no pranks due to the authority of Vincent, the school's director.
I've been working hard for a whole year, and judging by this progress, I should be able to show my talents this year.
When the first-year students entered the Great Hall from the waiting room and McGonagall closed the door tightly, Peeves sang excitedly:
"Oh~Wayne is not in school today, I am in charge of Hogwarts!
La la la ~ the taste of freedom!
La la la ~ A sign of chaos!
The whole castle is my stage!"
Peeves, in a particularly good mood, sang as he went down through the floor. The deep and dark dungeon continued to echo with his singing and sinister laughter.
In the auditorium, all the students felt extremely heavy-hearted since they entered.
It was not because Dumbledore's dark purple robe covered with silver stars was too fashionable, but because of the big pink toad sitting next to him that seemed to have turned into a human form.
He was short and fat, with short, curly gray-brown hair tied in a very ugly big pink bow, which was as disgusting as the pink plush cardigan sweater he wore over his robe.
Every time she took a sip from her goblet, the students worried that an eye would fall out of her pale, toad-like face with droopy eyelids.
The frightened first-year students lined up in front of the long staff table, facing the students at the tables of the four colleges below.
McGonagall placed a small bench in front of the freshmen, and then gently placed the Sorting Hat, which had a few more patches on it, on the bench.
The faces of the first-year students gleamed palely in the candlelight. A boy in the middle of the team seemed to be trembling. His eyes kept trying to look behind him, but his body seemed too stiff to move.
Just being stared at by Umbridge caused such a reaction. It was hard to imagine what kind of vicious incidents would happen in her class.
As the freshmen waited anxiously, the Sorting Hat finally opened its mouth and sang:
"Long ago, when I was still a new hat, and Hogwarts was not yet built, the four founders of that noble house thought they would never go their separate ways.
The same goal unites them, their wishes are so identical, to build the best magic school in the world and pass on their knowledge to future generations.
We will build a school together and teach together. The four friends were very determined. However, they never dreamed that one day they would split up from each other.
Are there any better friends in this world than Slytherin and Gryffindor?
Unless you count another pair of close friends, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw.
How could such a good thing be ruined? How could such a friendship be written off?
Alas - I witnessed this sad story with my own eyes, so I can tell you about it in detail here.
Slytherin said: "The students we teach must be of the purest blood."
Ravenclaw said: "The students we teach must be of superior intelligence."
Gryffindor said: "The students we teach must be brave and fearless."
Hufflepuff said, "I will teach many people and treat them all equally."..."
The Sorting Hat sang the origin and history of Hogwarts in a brisk rhythm, but this new song did not ease the tension of the first-year students.
"The Sorting Hat is before you now, and you all know the whole story. I sorted you into each house because my duty is unchangeable.
But this year I want to say more and ask you to listen carefully to my new songs, even though I am destined to divide you, but I am afraid that this is not the right thing to do.
Although I must fulfill my duty to divide the incoming class into four groups each year, I worry that such a division will lead to the collapse I dread.
Oh, to know the dangers, to read the signs, for the lessons of history warn us that our Hogwarts is in danger, and that enemies outside the school are waiting for us.
We must be closely united internally, otherwise everything will fall apart from within.
I have spoken to you plainly, I have sounded the alarm, and now let us sort."
The Sorting Hat closed its mouth and waited for the students to applaud.
Fred and George from the Gryffindor table were the first to offer the warmest applause. Umbridge had a gloomy expression throughout, and the pale foundation on her big toad face seemed to be falling off.
The warm applause was mixed with whispers, and the students at the tables in the four colleges were almost all talking to each other.
It's clear that the Sorting Hat's new song is a warning to the students of impending crisis.
"Professor Dumbledore—" Umbridge's eyes widened. "I was hoping you could explain the song."
Dumbledore played dumb and said, "I don't see what I am supposed to explain to you, Professor Dolores Umbridge."
Umbridge didn't care about the alienation implied in his tone. She picked up the goblet and took a big sip, her eyes widening so much that they almost popped out.
"Professor Dumbledore, the so-called danger and enemy refers to Vincent Wayne and his evil Order, right?"
"Really?" Dumbledore asked back, "I never thought Vincent was dangerous, nor was he an enemy of the school. You know, he is still the school's most senior trustee."
Umbridge gritted her teeth and slammed the goblet down. "His status as a school director is not recognized by the Ministry of Magic!"
"But he has the Castle's recognition, and I think that's enough."
Dumbledore's light words made Umbridge's face twist into a ball.
At this moment, the auditorium fell completely silent, and McGonagall loudly read out the name of the first freshman: "Euan Abercrombie."
The trembling boy in the middle of the team stumbled forward, put on the Sorting Hat, and sat on the bench with a nervous mood.
"Gryffindor!"
Thunderous applause broke out at the Gryffindor table, but he stumbled over and quickly sat down under Umbridge's gaze.
Looking at the panic expression on his face, it seemed as if he wished there was a hole in the ground for him to crawl into so that he could escape that terrifying gaze.
Slowly, the long line of first-year students shortened little by little.
Rose Zeller was eventually sorted into Hufflepuff.
Professor McGonagall picked up her hat and stool and strode away. Professor Dumbledore stood up at the staff table.
"Welcome our new students!" He opened his arms and smiled brightly. "Welcome! Welcome our old students, welcome back! There will be plenty of time for speeches, but not now. Enjoy your meal!"
