Chapter 758: A Trial and a Show
"Child, I'm here." Mrs. Peter called Peter Pettigrew in tears.
He heard it, and a trace of regret flashed across his eyes.
But he never looked at his mother.
Mrs. Peter covered her heart with her hands in pain.
After today's trial, everything will return to its original track.
The only difference is that she changed from the mother of a hero to the mother of a murderer.
But it doesn’t matter whether he is a hero or not, she just wants her son to live well.
But this hope is destined to be dashed.
The process before the presiding judge, Bones, was quick, with evidence, witnesses and testimonies being submitted one after another.
It’s called a trial, but in fact it’s more like a procedure.
First up was the evidence, a wand that had belonged to Wales.
It was Scrimgeour who took the stand to testify.
"Your Highness, judge and jury, I swear on my twenty-plus years of professional experience in combating the dark arts that the magical aura left on this wand is 100 percent consistent with that of Peter Pettigrew."
The Wizengamot members of the jury said nothing and looked at the evidence presented indifferently.
More than half a month has passed, and I can still feel the lingering aura of black magic.
This is an atmosphere full of violence and destruction. One can imagine what kind of mood Peter Pettigrew was in when he cast the spell.
The second piece of evidence was a Muggle car that had been blown up beyond all recognition.
Scrimgeour gave evidence again, followed by Vincent and Hermione as witnesses.
"Mr. Wayne, Miss Granger, can you describe what happened?"
"Of course, your honor, judge and jury."
In Vincent's extremely solemn and serious statement, Peter Pettigrew kept using Apparition to try to escape. Fortunately, he had received training in Apparition during the summer vacation, otherwise he would not have been able to track him all the way and successfully capture him.
The presiding judge, Bones, glanced at the documents on the table and said, "Mr. Wayne, you learned Apparition from Mr. Sam Chavez, a senior Auror of the Magical Congress of the United States of America, right?"
"Yes, your honor."
Bones flipped open the file and took out a letter. "This is Mr. Chavez's handwritten letter, right?"
Vincent's expression was still extremely serious. "Yes, if it wasn't for the emergency situation at the time, I would never have performed Apparition without a certificate."
He looked at the jury, "Your Highness, judge and jury, I am willing to bear all the consequences of performing Apparition without permission."
Bones picked up another document and said, "Mr. Wayne, the Magical Congress of the United States of America has guaranteed you. You are not responsible for this matter."
She paused, "But after the trial, you will need to go to the Ministry of Magic as soon as possible to obtain a qualification certificate in Apparition."
Vincent nodded more seriously than ever before, "I will, Your Honor."
Bones looked over at Hermione. "Miss Granger, you used an alchemical firearm several times while tracking Peter Pettigrew to the Muggle Museum, didn't you?"
Hermione glanced at Vincent and quickly calmed down from her originally flustered mood.
"Yes, your honor."
"Ms. Granger, can you tell me what made you choose to use this alchemical firearm?"
"Okay." Hermione took a deep breath.
She looked towards Peter Pettigrew, her delicate face showing fear.
"My magic skills are limited. In order to maintain as much strength as possible to continue tracking, I can only choose to use this gun made by Mr. Vincent Wayne through alchemy."
Bones picked up the registration document for the gunblade, "Ms. Granger, this alchemical firearm was officially registered as early as April 1992, 4, so you are not responsible for the damage caused to the Muggle museum."
Hermione breathed a sigh of relief.
Although Vincent had predicted that the Ministry of Magic would not pursue the matter, she was still a little worried.
Now everything is fine, and I can finally testify with peace of mind.
Bones then asked McGonagall, Lupin, and Snape some small details.
As excellent students at Hogwarts, Vincent and Hermione discovered the actions of the Bat Family early that night.
When they woke up the three professors and prepared to ambush them, they unexpectedly ran into Peter Pettigrew who was fleeing outside the school.
At that time, everyone, including the professor, only knew that he, who had turned into a mouse, was the pet mouse Ben Ben who had disappeared again.
McGonagall successfully trapped him using Transfiguration, but Lupin recognized him.
"Professor Lupin, you and the prisoner were in the same class, and you were very good friends, right?"
Lupin clenched his fists. "Your Honor, we used to be friends."
"So, Professor, when did you start to doubt what happened back then?"
"It started when the school's Owl Court club put up a notice looking for Ben."
Bones looked at Sirius on the other side of the witness stand. "Mr. Black, the reason you escaped from Azkaban was because you saw the Evening Prophet on June 6th. Am I right?"
"Yes, your honor."
There is nothing special about a mouse with a missing toe on its front limbs. The key point is that Peter Pettigrew's Animagus form is also a mouse, and he only had one finger left after the blasting curse.
Sirius originally thought he was dead, but when he saw the newspaper that day, he realized that he had faked his own death to escape and had been hiding in the Weasley house.
Arthur and Molly in the gallery glared at Peter Pettigrew sitting on the iron chair.
This traitor of the Order of the Phoenix actually had the nerve to hide in their house. When he ran in, he should have been thrown out directly instead of staying with Percy as a pet.
Bones asked Sirius the most crucial question, "Mr. Black, the person protected by the Fidelius Charm was not you but the prisoner Peter Pettigrew. What specific evidence do you have to support your statement?"
"Only four people know about this." Sirius closed his eyes, looking extremely sad.
"I am one of the heirs of the Black family. Everyone knows that my cousin and brother were both loyal Death Eaters. Although James and Lily - the Potters - had great trust in me, I..."
He suddenly opened his eyes and stared at Peter Pettigrew sitting on the iron chair.
"But I finally managed to persuade them to replace the Secret Keeper with this traitor! Because he is low-key and timid enough! He will not attract the attention of those Death Eaters!"
Bones tapped the table lightly. "Mr. Black, please control your emotions for a moment."
Sirius took a deep breath, "I'm sorry, your honor, judge and jury.
We all underestimated this traitor. I followed him all the way to the Muggle community. He said that when he faced Voldemort, the man was scared. He was not as brave as us. He had no way to resist the man. "
He turned to look at Dumbledore and Vincent.
"As for the evidence, I know a very unpopular spell that can determine who the secret keeper was back then."
Everyone turned their attention to the two of them.
One is the chief wizard of the Wizengamot, and the other is the British youth representative of the Wizengamot.
If they were to testify, most of the wizards present, including the presiding judge and the jury, would be convinced.
