Chapter 2863 Stop Investigating
"I heard you cleared out all the construction companies involved in the work stoppage?" Jiang Longjun asked.
Qin Feng knew that Jiang Longjun was about to get down to business. This matter wasn't exactly news, and Qin Feng had already reported to Jiang Longjun about his plan to expel these construction companies before he even started dealing with it, and Jiang Longjun had agreed at the time.
The two sides had already discussed this matter, and Jiang Longjun had already agreed to it. But Jiang Longjun brought it up again today, which clearly shows that he has different opinions. He is just saying this to set the stage for what he will say next.
"Yes." Qin Feng nodded.
Logically, Qin Feng should have given Jiang Longjun a detailed report on the situation when Jiang Longjun asked him this question, but this time Qin Feng didn't say anything.
Qin Feng was essentially expressing his attitude to Jiang Longjun in advance.
Jiang Longjun glanced at Qin Feng. He knew that Qin Feng was unhappy that he had come to talk about this again, but he would not stop talking just because Qin Feng expressed his dissatisfaction.
"How is the situation now? Is the liquidation of several projects progressing smoothly?"
"Very smooth."
"When will the project resume construction and catch up with the original schedule?" Jiang Longjun asked again.
"We've already resumed work on a small scale since yesterday. They promised me that we'd fully resume work within a week and that the project's progress wouldn't be affected by this," Qin Feng replied directly, intending to shut down anything Jiang Longjun was about to say.
However, Qin Feng also knew that if he could be "blocked" so easily, he wouldn't be Jiang Longjun, and he wouldn't be in this position.
"Qin Feng, I'll say it again: there are two principles in handling these projects. First, stability—that goes without saying, stability trumps everything. Second, we must ensure these projects get started as soon as possible; construction can't stop, and the schedule must be caught up," Jiang Longjun said, puffing on his cigarette.
“You insisted on completely shutting down the five projects. My attitude at the time was neither to support nor oppose them, but the prerequisites were these two.”
“But recently I’ve received some feedback saying that your methods for clearing people out are very barbaric. You’re forcibly driving people away, arresting and detaining those who don’t cooperate, and there are still people being held in the police station. Is that true?” Jiang Longjun looked up at Qin Feng.
Although Jiang Longjun had always treated him with this superior-to-subordinate attitude, Qin Feng still felt uncomfortable.
Despite his discomfort, Qin Feng couldn't afford to cause trouble with Jiang Longjun over this. He still needed Jiang Longjun's support, and as long as the Yang family existed, Qin Feng couldn't afford to be at odds with Jiang Longjun—that was a matter of principle.
"That's true, but Secretary Jiang, I don't think there's anything wrong with doing it this way. We need to handle this as a special case and be firm in our approach. If we're not firm, this problem will never be solved, let alone resume work and production and catch up with the original schedule," Qin Feng replied.
"But won't your approach affect stability? Will these original construction companies yield to your forceful methods? Qin Feng, this is a society governed by law, and everything must be governed according to the law. Your barbaric methods may seem effective in the short term, but in reality, they will have endless consequences," Jiang Longjun continued to lecture.
"Secretary Jiang is right. I will go back and discuss this matter with them to correct our mistakes, eliminate the impact and future troubles, and ensure that the clearing-out work proceeds smoothly and orderly." Qin Feng did not want to continue arguing with Jiang Longjun, so he gave in and bowed his head.
Jiang Longjun was quite satisfied with Qin Feng's attitude. This matter was not the main topic he was discussing today; he was merely using it as a starting point to ascertain Qin Feng's stance and to give him a warning.
"According to what you just said, these projects are basically resolved?" Jiang Longjun asked, changing his tone.
"So far, everything is going according to plan," Qin Feng replied cautiously.
"In that case, shouldn't your investigation into those projects come to an end?" Jiang Longjun asked.
Qin Feng looked up at Jiang Longjun, not directly objecting, but instead asking Jiang Longjun, "What does Secretary Jiang mean?"
"What I mean is that now that these projects have been resolved smoothly, the investigations into the previous projects should also come to an end."
"This matter has been investigated for so long, and we have basically found out everything that could be found. We should stop investigating now."
“Since you started this project investigation, our sandbar has never been stable. Fortunately, nothing serious happened this time. If something had really happened, neither of us could have taken the responsibility.”
"Qin Feng, for you personally, it's time to stop while you're ahead. You should be able to accept the current situation. As for the entire sandbar, it's time to return to peace, so let's stop the investigation here. Stability is the most important thing," Jiang Longjun said to Qin Feng with a smile.
"Does Secretary Jiang mean that the investigation into these projects should be stopped here?" Qin Feng asked again.
"Yes, that's it. Let's not create any more complications. The focus now should be on resuming work and production and catching up on the progress." Jiang Longjun nodded.
"Secretary Jiang, based on the current investigation results, these projects all involve huge violations of laws and regulations, and we have already found many clues about violations of laws and regulations by public officials. How can we stop them at this point?" Qin Feng asked rhetorically.
"Transfer the leads on the violations of laws and regulations by public officials to the Discipline Inspection Commission. That's their job, so don't worry about it. Stop all the investigations you've been conducting. This can't go on forever." Jiang Longjun raised his voice, clearly expressing his dissatisfaction to Qin Feng.
"Secretary Jiang, isn't this inappropriate? Now that an investigation has been launched, the issues must be thoroughly investigated. What kind of nonsense is it to stop halfway through the investigation? How are we going to explain this to the public?" Qin Feng retorted.
"So how far do you plan to investigate? I know what you're thinking. Your goal is to implicate Shao Hongli, isn't it? But have you considered that if Shao Hongli is really implicated, will you, as the mayor, bear the responsibility? Will I, as the municipal party secretary, bear the responsibility? Will our entire Shazhou leadership bear the responsibility?" Jiang Longjun said, banging on the table.
“Secretary Jiang, this isn’t about implicating anyone, but about holding violators accountable. It’s a matter of principle. Now that we’ve discovered clues to illegal and criminal activities, we should investigate further, clarify the issues, and bring the criminals to justice. Only in this way can we deter other comrades and restore a peaceful and prosperous Shazhou to its people,” Qin Feng argued forcefully.
"Don't try to reason with me. I'm better at reasoning than you are. I'm talking to you about the real problems in our Shazhou. I'll just ask you one question: what good will this investigation do for our Shazhou?" Jiang Longjun interrupted Qin Feng.
