Chapter 1179: The believers are transferred ahead of schedule and gathered at the Avengers base.
Earth, the Holy Court.
Before the statue of the God of Covenants (Aaron Gaius), Gel, dressed in a white classical robe, prayed devoutly to the Lord.
He had done a good job in fulfilling his master's task; with the help of his other attendants, he had already completed the screening of believers qualified to enter God's Kingdom.
Humans, mutants, and even vampires are all included; nothing is left out.
He doesn't need to do anything extra now; he just needs to patiently wait for the right time to leave.
However, the peaceful period was short-lived, and Carter Shrew returned on his horse just past noon.
He gave Ger a brief greeting, then went to the cabinet, took a bottle of wine, and sat on the bench to drink it by himself.
The surrounding believers seemed used to this scene and tacitly pretended not to see it.
"Mission accomplished?"
"A low-level demon, it looks like a bear and is flaming."
I shot him a few times and sent him back to hell.
"It would be better if you could be a little more serious," Ger said with a hint of exasperation.
Please, I'm not like you.
"You've always been a devout believer, while I used to be a cowboy in the West, unable to dedicate myself to my faith as constantly as you do." Carter Slade laughed. Although his position in the Holy See was below Gel's, they were practically equals.
It's already good enough that you can help him deal with the demons; asking for anything more is a bit excessive.
Ger understood this as well, and shook his head rather speechlessly, "I still hope you can restrain yourself a bit, at least don't drink in such a sacred place as a church."
Carter Slade shrugged. He had already toned it down enough, several times better than when he was a believer in God!
Suddenly, the two sensed something and looked at the statue of the God of Contracts.
The next moment, Aaron's voice rang in their minds, and the surrounding scene transformed into the control room of the Monster.
"Master." x2.
"Take a look at this first!" Aaron nodded, then extracted the memories of Thanos from his mind and transmitted them to the two of them.
"This guy's insane!" Carter Slade exclaimed in astonishment. "Eliminating half of all life in the universe? That's even more thrilling than the Gates of Hell!"
“And he’s already doing it, and has even completed part of it,” Gel said.
"That's not important. Even if he snapped his fingers, it wouldn't affect my divine kingdom," Aaron said casually. "However, the plan needs to be moved up. I need to guide my devout followers into my divine kingdom before Thanos snaps his fingers."
Just in case, I can't stand by and watch my followers suffer needlessly.
Gel and Carter Slade exchanged a glance. "No problem, Master."
All the devout believers on Earth have been notified and have signed a covenant, ready to transfer to God's kingdom at any time.
"Very good." Aaron smiled with satisfaction. It was only natural that believers on Earth were easier to communicate with than those in the universe.
"Besides that, there is one more thing I need you to do, a small thing."
"Notify the Avengers, tell them about Thanos's existence and what he's going to do."
Inform Stephen Strange that the Time Stone is with him.
"As ordered."
“Master, don’t we need to do anything?” Ger asked tentatively. “Just pass on a message?”
"Put away your inappropriate compassion. I have the ability to solve the problem, but I cannot intervene, and you all know why."
As for you... you haven't even reached the level of a demigod, so you're probably only about 40/60 with Thanos's minions.
"But Thanos has not only the Black Order, but also a massive army, which you cannot handle," Aaron said patiently.
Present the facts and reason with them.
They are now in a very awkward position. Their master cannot intervene, but they themselves are not capable enough and will most likely get themselves killed.
"Understood, Master."
"We won't meddle in other people's business," Carter Shrew said solemnly.
His life experience is richer than Ger's, and he would never do something so thankless.
“I almost forgot, there’s one more thing.” Aaron suddenly remembered something and tapped his temple with a sigh. “Go to Clint Barton’s house and pack up his wife and children and bring them into God’s Kingdom.”
Aaron looked at the bewildered expressions on the faces of his two subordinates, and the fleeting look of astonishment in their eyes as if they had discovered some incredible secret. He explained, both amused and exasperated, "Stop with your nonsense. I have absolutely no interest in married women and young girls."
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward. Gel and Carter Shrew awkwardly looked down at the ground, as if they could dig a three-bedroom apartment out of the cracks between the bricks with their feet.
"I have seen a future, a future without Gaius."
Patton's wife and children would disappear because of the snap; only he himself would survive.
“That’s truly tragic.” Carter Slade pursed his lips. “Everyone has a one in two chance of surviving, but his whole family is gone. It’s beyond just bad luck.”
Even more tragically, he didn't die. The pain of losing everything in an instant would consume him completely, and I can only imagine what a miserable life he would lead.
“I made a promise to him before that I would protect his family once, and this time I’m keeping that promise.”
“My master is kind,” Ger said with deep admiration.
"Actually, it wasn't that kind of mercy; he knelt down and begged me."
Out of sympathy and pity, I decided to help him this time.
“He’s really lucky,” Carter Slade said meaningfully. “That kneel was totally worth it. He was able to save his wife and children. Even if he had to kowtow again, it would have been a sure win.”
Aaron remained noncommittal, then added, "Also, take Tony Stark's wife and daughter to my divine kingdom for protection."
"Master, did you also make a promise to Stark?" Gol asked in surprise.
"No, but the first person I met in this universe was Tony Stark."
For this reason, I have a duty to protect his family.
Besides, I've met his daughter; she's quite adorable. Since he calls me "uncle," I really can't bear to see anything happen to her.
“Understood.” Ger nodded. “Is there anything else the master wants to instruct?”
"That's all. The fate of other people is none of my concern."
......
The connection was severed, and the two people's consciousness returned to reality, but only a moment had passed.
"Let's go!" Carter Slade downed the rest of the bottle in one gulp, then tossed the empty bottle into the trash can outside. "Get to work."
“Before that, we need to transfer the believers on Earth to the master’s divine kingdom. I must inform them to prepare.” As he spoke, Geer picked up his staff and devoutly recited the hymn of the God of the Covenant, communicating with the vast faith contributed by all the believers in the Aaron divine kingdom.
This was a privilege granted to him by Aaron. As the nominal supreme leader of the Holy Court, he should have the power to mobilize faith, communicate with believers, and utilize the power of God's Kingdom.
With the blessing of faith, countless points of light appeared around him, each representing a believer of the God of Contract.
When the number of light spots stopped increasing, Gel slammed his staff into the ground and opened his arms as if embracing the sun.
A blazing pillar of light descended from the sky, engulfing the statue of the God of Contracts, and at the same time, thousands of believers heard Gol's voice:
This universe is about to undergo an unprecedented cleansing, and the great God of Covenants will lead all believers to the divine kingdom to escape the disaster.
Three hours later, devout believers will be led to God's kingdom; please be prepared.
As the light faded, Gehr breathed a sigh of relief and picked up his staff again.
"That's it?" Carter Slade asked, somewhat doubtfully. "Isn't it too easy?"
“A great faith will guide believers to God’s kingdom; I am merely opening the gates of God’s kingdom for them at specific times.”
"Aren't you worried that they might leak information and cause unnecessary panic?"
"It's highly unlikely. The believers who are chosen to enter the Kingdom of God are all carefully selected."
They may not be the most outstanding, but they are certainly the most devout, knowing what they should and should not do.
Moreover, they signed a contract, which will govern their behavior before they enter the divine realm.
"Six!" Carter Slade gave a thumbs up. "Let's go get to work. I suggest we head to the Avengers' base first."
Gel nodded, then took out the 'Gaius Spellbook' and activated the portal spell recorded on it.
......
A dark blue portal suddenly appeared in the lobby of the Avengers base. Steve, Natasha, and Vision, who was sitting on the sofa reading a book, immediately became alert and instinctively placed their hands on their weapons.
They weren't very familiar with this scenario, but S.H.I.E.L.D. still had relevant records.
The last one to emerge from the portal was Loki, the God of Mischief. He nearly destroyed a S.H.I.E.L.D. base, killed dozens of agents, stole the Tesseract, and even took control of Barton.
With such a precedent to follow, they can't be too careful.
As soon as Gale and Carter Sorey stepped out of the portal, they saw Natasha's gun pointed at them, Steve's hand on his shield, and the gem on Vision's forehead gleaming with a pale yellow light...
“Uh… don’t be so tense,” Carter Shrew said with a dry laugh. “We’re not enemies.”
We've fought demons together before, there's no need to be so tense!
The three exchanged a glance, breathed a sigh of relief, and put away their weapons.
"You're rare guests, what brings you here all of a sudden?" Steve asked, puzzled.
“It’s important business,” Carter Slade smiled mysteriously. “It’s also very important.”
"Are there only three of you Avengers here?" Gel asked.
“Sam is training outside, Roger is on a mission, Banner is nowhere to be found, and as for Tony… he’s at home taking care of the kids,” Natasha said with a smile. “That guy is a complete doting father now.”
"Where is Clint Barton?"
"Barton has long since retired, but he'll still come to help if needed."
"Then let's call them all over!"
Steve's expression changed. "What happened? Do we need to gather all the Avengers?"
Snapped!
Carter Slade snapped his fingers. "Some madman is planning to wipe out half of all life in the universe, like this?"
"Snap your fingers?" Natasha frowned slightly. "That's not a funny joke."
"It's not funny, but it's true."
“If that madman is really that powerful, I don’t think we can stop him,” Vision said. “He’s far beyond the realm of normal life; he’s a god on a cosmic level.”
“In fact, there is still a chance to stop him,” Carter Shrew said. “Let’s wait until the Avengers are all assembled before we talk about it, so I don’t have to explain it all over again later.”
By the way, a friendly reminder: time is precious. Every second you delay increases the likelihood of disaster.
"Natasha." Steve sensed the urgency and immediately gave Natasha a wink.
Natasha understood the importance of the matter and immediately took out her phone to make calls one by one.
"I still have to go to the New York Temple, so please excuse me." Geer opened the Book of Gaius again, creating a portal.
“This gadget is really convenient,” Carter Slade said with a hint of envy.
"If you can be more diligent, your master will reward you accordingly."
"Please spare me, I'm an old man and I don't want to do any more work."
Without saying a word, Geer walked straight into the portal.
"Is there anything to eat?" Carter Slade sat down in a chair as if he knew the place well. "I didn't even have time to eat lunch so I could let you know."
“Would a sandwich be alright?” Natasha asked.
"Couldn't it be a little more lavish?"
"I'm not picky about Wellington steak or pan-fried salmon; surely your Avengers' food can't be worse than what's served in the cathedral!"
Natasha rolled her eyes, speechless. "Fine, I'll take you to the restaurant. There'll be a sumptuous lunch there."
"Thank you."
“Wait a minute.” Steve looked at Carter Slade and asked, “Gale just mentioned the New York Temple?”
"The Sorcerer Supreme is there to protect the Earth. If nothing unexpected happens, you'll be able to see him soon."
After having lunch, Carter Slade took a nap on the sofa in the conference room, then pulled out a bottle of wine from somewhere and started drinking it by himself.
During this time, Sam, Rogue, and Tony arrived one after another, and Strange also brought Wong through the portal to the Avengers base.
The Avengers took this opportunity to chat with the two unfamiliar mages and learned a bit about them.
“We’re still missing Patton; his home is relatively far from here,” Natasha said with a wry smile. “Even in a Quinjet, it would take several hours to fly.”
Carter Slade chuckled and turned to Strange. "Bring him here. You can do that, can't you?"
"That's possible, but I need the exact location."
“Yes.” Natasha picked up her phone and dialed Barton’s number. “Barton, where are you right now?”
"I'm still at home, the plane that's supposed to pick me up hasn't arrived yet!"
"At home." Natasha hung up the phone decisively and then gave Strangebotton her home address.
Strange put on the sling ring and drew a circle in front of him with one hand.
A moment later, an orange-red portal opened, and on the other side was Barton, who was organizing his bow and arrows.
Before Barton could react, Strange waved his hand forcefully, and the portal automatically pushed forward, taking him to the conference room.
