Chapter 1184 Rocket Raccoon from the Heart, An Insurmountable Gap
Proxima Midnight leaped into the air, the longsword in her hand gleaming with a cold, sinister light, and thrust straight at the rocket's head.
Rocket stared wide-eyed at her movements, and after a moment of astonishment, a mocking smile appeared on his lips.
boom!
The thick, bucket-like vines tore through the air and lashed heavily at her.
Proxima Midnight was struck hard; its weapon fell to the ground, and its body was sent flying uncontrollably toward the undead army.
"Well done, Groot." Rocket gave a thumbs up.
"I am Groot!"
Proxima Midnight knocked down several undead soldiers, but before she could react, she was overwhelmed by even more undead soldiers.
Having lost her weapon and being in a very unfavorable position, she could only hastily dodge the falling swords and blades, and for a moment she was in grave danger.
Upon seeing this, Corvus Glaive immediately rushed forward.
The strange longsword was swung continuously, and despite being slashed on the shoulder, he managed to drag Proxima Midnight out of the siege of the undead soldiers.
"They're still alive? They're really tough!" Rocket said with a regretful expression.
"I kill you."
“Calm down, Proxima Centauri,” Corvus Glaive quickly reassured his wife. “Killing him now will only make us die faster.”
Proxima Midnight glared at Rocket with murderous intent and resentment, but quickly picked up her weapon to help maintain the fragile defense.
There's a reason she wanted Rocket dead. She and Corvus Glaive were carefully hiding in Asgard, and even the Asgardian warriors couldn't do anything to them.
Because of the special circumstances in Asgard, Hela, the goddess of death, is like a dozing dragon, and no one dares to wake her.
But Rocket, that hothead, drove the spaceship straight into the inner city.
Its entrance was so arrogant that it was hard for the patrolling undead soldiers to miss it.
That's fine, as long as we can deal with that patrol team in time, the situation can still be brought under control.
But that damn raccoon went all out, making the biggest commotion possible.
Unfortunately, they were nearby and suffered an undeserved misfortune.
To make matters worse, they were discovered by that damned raccoon. Without the slightest hesitation, he immediately shifted the blame, turning the two sides, who should have been enemies, into foes in the same boat.
He and Corvus Glaive were considered elite warriors, but they weren't capable of challenging an entire legion. It seemed only a matter of time before they were overwhelmed by sheer numbers.
They weren't afraid of death, but the cause of their deaths was truly pathetic.
Rumble!
A sudden clap of thunder sounded, and layers of dark clouds appeared in the sky.
Thor descended from the sky, blue lightning flashing around him, which suddenly dispersed upon landing, clearing out a large area.
"Looks like we're saved." Rocket laughed heartily.
"Guardians of the Galaxy? Rocket and Groot?" Thor asked tentatively.
“Yes, it’s us,” Rocket said smugly. “Has the Guardians of the Galaxy’s reputation spread all the way to Asgard?”
“No, I’ve never heard of you before today,” Thor said bluntly. “Are they… Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight? Thanos’s henchmen?”
"So what if it is?" Corvus Glaive scoffed, seemingly not taking Thor seriously at all.
“I suggest we kill them first,” Rocket said. “We’re not enemies of Asgard, but it’s a different story for them.”
With Thor joining the battle, breaking through the undead army's encirclement became much easier, and the value of Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight naturally plummeted.
He had no qualms about betraying his teammates; he was certain that if Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight had a chance to escape, their first instinct would be to kill him and Groot.
Roar!Roar!Roar!
As Thor hesitated, the undead soldiers surrounded him from all sides again.
"This is terrible. Looks like we'll have to let them live a few more seconds." Rocket shrugged, then looked at Thor. "Can you handle this?"
Thor spread his arms, and blue lightning flashed frequently.
The power of Thor within him awakened on Sakaar, but he wasn't yet skilled at channeling it.
"We can handle it, but we need to get out of here as soon as possible, otherwise..."
Before he finished speaking, the undead soldiers who had surrounded him suddenly fell silent.
Instead of launching an attack, they voluntarily made way for each other.
Gulu!
Saul swallowed hard, the fear of being dominated by his own sister resurfacing once again.
Hela walked over with a smile on her face, as if taking a leisurely stroll, each step feeling like it was treading on the hearts of the group.
"Good morning, my dear brother." Hela looked at Thor, who was gathering lightning, with obvious mockery on her face. "It seems that you've finally realized that you're a god."
"Thanks to you, sister."
"Then you should thank me, shouldn't you?"
Thor did not answer, nor did he rush to attack.
His task was to stall for time, the longer the better, ideally ensuring that every single remaining Asgardian reached the Rainbow Bridge.
"that..."
Rocket raised his hand that wasn't holding a gun, trying his best to keep his tone polite.
If the collector's information is accurate, this man is indeed a ruthless god, decisive and swift in his killings.
If I upset her, I might not even get a chance to speak.
"Your Majesty, Goddess of Death and Queen of Asgard, we have come to Asgard with a very important matter to report to you."
However, the way they arrived might have been a bit inappropriate, inevitably causing some misunderstandings.
Upon hearing this, Hela's gaze toward the rocket remained playful, but it held less hostility.
"Tell me first, and then I'll decide whether or not to spare your lives."
Rocket breathed a slight sigh of relief and quickly, yet politely, recounted how Thanos was collecting the Infinity Stones and planning to destroy half of all life in the universe.
Hela listened and shook her head with amusement. "Interesting, very interesting. A sub-father is actually trying to do something that even Odin couldn't do."
"Did Odin also collect the Infinity Stones?" Thor asked, somewhat bewildered.
"Otherwise, what do you think that glove in the bunker's vault is? Just for show?"
"Calling it a mere decoration wouldn't be wrong; after all, he gave up in the first place. Without Infinity Stones, it's just a broken gauntlet."
"Your Majesty, the focus should be on Thanos, right?" Rocket weakly reminded her. "The Space Stone is in Asgard."
"Thanos's men infiltrated Asgard to obtain the Space Stone."
Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight exchanged glances, seemingly reaching some kind of consensus.
"As expected of a rat that can't stand the light of day." Hela sneered disdainfully, "You've collected a few Infinity Stones, yet you don't even have the guts to come to Asgard and challenge me."
"How dare you insult your master! You deserve to die!" General Corvus Glaive twirled his sword and angrily slashed at Hela.
puff!
He hadn't run more than a few steps when a black sword pierced his chest, pinning him to the wall.
The 'Peerless Blade' in his hand fell to the ground with a thud, and after struggling for a few seconds, he closed his eyes in despair.
Rocket and Groot stared wide-eyed, their faces filled with disbelief.
Corvus Glaive died too quickly, so quickly that they didn't even have time to react. It was as easy as crushing an ant. Is this the power of the Goddess of Death?
"This is what happens when you overestimate yourself." Hela didn't even bother to look at him. She had killed countless people like Corvus Glaive over the past few thousand years, and he wasn't even worth remembering.
Snapped!
Proxima Midnight decisively threw away her sword and knelt before Hela, saying, "I surrender, Your Majesty."
"You're quite sensible, managing to survive." Hela smiled and flicked her finger, at which point two undead soldiers approached and escorted Proxima Midnight to the dungeon.
“Then…my dear brother, can you give me an explanation?” Hela looked at Thor with a meaningful gaze. “Where have my people gone?”
"Who knows?"
"You don't actually think that just because you've awakened your divine power, you're qualified to challenge me, do you?"
"You'll have to try it before you know."
Ugh!
Hela sighed softly, ran her hands over her head, and her hair transformed into a sharp black crown.
He spread his hands, summoning two swords of the night sky.
"I wasn't planning on taking any action during this time, but you're really affecting my mood."
I promised Frigga I wouldn't kill you, but that's all I promised—I wouldn't kill you.
Thor also switched to combat mode, blue lightning instantly enveloping his entire body. He drew two longswords from behind and charged straight at Hela.
As they drew near, lightning shot out from the tip of the sword like a dart.
Hela slowly retreated, her Night Sky Sword flashing repeatedly, extinguishing all the incoming bolts of lightning.
With his divine power awakened, Thor was much faster than before. His sword whistled through the air, and blue arcs of electricity followed the blade straight for Hela's neck.
Hela stepped back lightly, calmly retreating, turning sideways, and leaning back to avoid a series of fierce attacks.
“This isn’t like you, sister,” Thor said in surprise. “When did you become all about hiding?”
"Alright! Looks like you really do need a lesson." Hela's lips curled into a playful smile, and with a push of her hands forward, two swords of the night sky shot towards Thor.
Thor neither dodged nor evaded, but instead slashed straight at the sword of the night sky.
When they first met, his Mjolnir was crushed by Hela with his bare hands, and he was thrown into the spatial turbulence without any chance to resist.
But now that divine power has awakened, the gap shouldn't be that big anymore; surely they shouldn't be completely powerless to fight back.
boom!boom!
The two swords of the night sky were shattered one after the other. The power transmitted through the swords was largely neutralized by the lightning, so it did not put much pressure on him.
Thor's confidence immediately increased. Although he knew he was still no match for Hela, he wasn't entirely without a chance of winning.
Three times seven might be a bit lacking, but two times eight... it's not impossible to consider.
With this in mind, Thor's offensive intensified, and he almost abandoned all defense.
Hela remained completely at ease, and Thor's attacks seemed like childish play to her.
If it weren't for certain reasons preventing her from engaging in strenuous exercise, he wouldn't even have the chance to play around with her.
Suddenly, blue and white lightning flashed in Thor's pupils, and the longsword in his hand released a fierce blue current, forcing Hela back dozens of meters.
He then raised his hands high, and blue electricity covered his body like a suit of armor.
Rumble!
The sky suddenly darkened, and dense lightning flashed in the clouds.
As Thor's hands fell, a surge of intense lightning was channeled and crashed down upon him.
The raging lightning bolt instantly engulfed Hela, and the aftershocks of the explosion ripped apart the solid ground, creating a violent sandstorm within a hundred-meter radius.
Rocket coughed twice, choked by the fumes, and covered his nose and mouth with his arm, nervously watching the direction where the lightning bolt was falling. "You're not going to kill her, are you?"
"After all, she's your own sister; blood is thicker than water!"
Thor ignored him, staring intently ahead with a serious expression, his grip on his sword tightening even slightly.
Before the smoke and dust had even cleared, the sound of clear footsteps could be heard.
Hela, sword in her right hand and the cold blade gently twirling in her left, casually walked up to Thor.
"Watfa!"
Rocket stared wide-eyed in disbelief, as if he now understood why Thanos dared not come to Asgard to forcibly seize the Space Stone.
"I'm Groot!"
Gulu!
Thor's heart skipped a beat, and his forehead was covered in a layer of cold sweat.
He hadn't thought he could be a match for Hela, but he hadn't expected that the gap would still be so large after his divine power was awakened, so large that he couldn't help but feel despair.
He had used the most powerful lightning he could unleash at this stage, and he was quite certain that the ultimate move had hit its target.
Hela appeared to be completely unharmed, with not even a scratch on her clothes.
“I have to admit, you’ve improved,” Hela said casually. “Odin likes you for a reason, but I don’t like you.”
"How foolish! You are no match for me at all, yet you still ran back to throw yourself into a cage."
“If Mjolnir were still here, I might have had a chance to beat you.”
"Not only foolish, but arrogant." Hela shook her head with amusement, casually planting the Night Sky Sword into the ground. "You have no idea how vast the difference is between us?"
"Then let me see for myself," Thor said boldly. The last group of people had not yet evacuated, and as Odin's son, he had to hold Hela back no matter what.
Thor held his twin swords in front of him, blue arcs of electricity flashing continuously, like hundreds of birds chirping together.
The next moment, he suddenly rushed towards Hela.
A dense current of electricity enveloped his entire body, leaving a cratered and cracked trail in the ground as he raced forward.
Thor closed the distance between himself and Hela to four or five meters in an instant, and then he leaped high into the air, summoning lightning to imbue his sword with and bring it down.
Time seemed to stand still at this moment. Thor looked just like a hero from a legend, and his fearless charge was like a world-famous painting.
Rocket's eyes widened in excitement, and Groot couldn't help but utter his only catchphrase. Regardless of the outcome, Thor earned their heartfelt respect at this moment.
puff!
Hela flicked her finger, and a black spike as thick as a bucket suddenly sprang from the ground, piercing Thor's abdomen and pinning him in mid-air.
The lightning dissipated, the longsword fell to the ground, and Thor let out a muffled groan of pain.
Rocket and Groot's expressions froze instantly; this dramatic contrast was truly unexpected.
