Chapter 2655 It’s raining in Nancheng tonight 16
The autumn rain drizzled on and on, showing no signs of stopping.
The damp, cold air seeped into the room and seeped into the very bones of the person.
After having dinner out and returning home, Xie Linzhou felt listless, as if the weather had drained his energy. He silently took off his coat, went straight to the sofa, and curled up in Jin Chen's arms in a comfortable position.
Jin Chen let him be, gently patting his back with her palm intermittently, and the two sat quietly on the sofa for a while.
The indistinct sound of rain outside the window, and the intermingling of breaths.
Xie Linzhou had his eyes closed, but his brows were furrowed, and he was restless.
Jin Chen lowered her head and touched his forehead. "I'll go heat up a cup of milk for you to warm up."
That sounds like you're coaxing a child.
But Xie Linzhou really fell for it.
When he was a child, he and Xie Shao studied design under Xie Qiudong's strict discipline. Occasionally, when he did something outstanding, Xie Qiudong would give Xie Shao milk and rare praise, while he would often only receive more rigorous scrutiny or denial of his unconventional ideas.
I'm always envious, but along with that envy comes self-doubt. I wonder if those inspirations are really so worthless, unworthy of any kindness.
Jin Chen quickly returned with a steaming cup of milk.
Xie Linzhou took it and held it in his palm, then lowered his head and took a sip. He didn't really want to drink it, but he was just enjoying the warmth.
Apart from Jin Chen, he would never have received such unconditional love from anyone else.
Jin Chen put on a vinyl record, the music slightly drowning out the indistinct sound of rain outside the window.
Xie Linzhou, however, seemed to be naturally sensitive to rain. Whenever it rained, he felt that everything was damp, the air, the furniture, and even his skin were covered with moisture, and his mood was so damp that it seemed like he could wring water out of his heart.
He buried himself in Jin Chen's arms, his cheek pressed against his neck, his breath filled with the scent he craved.
Jin Chen stroked his hair and asked softly, "Why are you so unhappy tonight? Is it just because of the rain?"
no.
Xie Linzhou shook his head in his arms.
He remained silent for a few seconds before slowly raising his head to look at Jin Chen.
The longing in her eyes remained, but beneath that longing lay an indescribable sadness.
Whatever the reason, he didn't want Jin Chen to know about those unpleasant past events.
"I just received a message." He said lazily, turning on his phone screen and handing it to Jin Chen. The screen was showing the text message from Song Qi.
He just looked at Jin Chen, his eyes clear, yet as if veiled in a thin mist.
Jin Chen frowned slightly and quickly scanned the text on the screen.
“That day at the restaurant, I felt his appearance was too coincidental.” Jin Chen looked at him again, her fingertip brushing against Xie Linzhou’s lips. “Afterwards, we had someone investigate, and it turned out that Song Qi and Xie Shao had financial dealings.”
After he finished speaking, there was a moment of silence in the living room, broken only by soft music.
Jin Chen looked into Xie Linzhou's eyes and asked again, "Are you upset that I interfered?"
Xie Linzhou shook his head again, relieved of the invisible burden, nestled into his arms, and entrusted his entire weight to him, pressing his cheek against his chest.
“I don’t blame you,” he said in a muffled voice, with a hint of dependence. “It was my own fault for not thinking of it… I should have looked into it.”
He was too easily swayed by the meager kindness shown to him in the past, and almost repeated the same mistake.
Jin Chen gently stroked Xie Linzhou's back, but his eyes darkened.
"Zhouzhou..."
"I am a little sleepy."
Xie Linzhou yawned, looking very tired, which just happened to interrupt Jin Chen's unfinished words.
He raised his hand and placed it on Jin Chen's shoulder, then leaned over and kissed his cheek, his eyes pleading softly, "It's late, will you sleep with me? I can never sleep well on rainy days."
Jin Chen looked at him, but the words she was about to say were swallowed back down, turning into a simple word.
"……it is good."
In the latter half of the night, the rain intensified.
The rain pounded against the window, as if trying to shatter the glass, while muffled thunder rumbled in the clouds.
In this kind of weather, thunder can suddenly rumble at any moment, so one can only pray that the current tranquility will last a little longer.
Xie Linzhou was awakened by the thunder again. This time the thunder wasn't particularly loud. Jin Chen was still fast asleep, but Xie Linzhou had something on his mind. He was a light sleeper, and even the slightest noise could pull him out of his restless sleep.
He lay in Jin Chen's warm embrace, quietly reaching out from under the covers, his cool fingertips caressing Jin Chen's eyebrows and eyes, then slowly sliding down his nose.
And what about you, Jinchen?
Xie Linzhou asked silently in his heart.
How did you come to know Xie Shao, and how much of it was a coincidence?
But these words were like a stone tied with a rope and dropped into a lake, sinking into Xie Linzhou's heart.
He dared not think too deeply, fearing that the answer he would find would be an unbearable chill.
Another rumble of thunder rolled across the sky, as if it had exploded right next to my ear.
Jin Chen stirred in his sleep, hugging Xie Linzhou even tighter, and gently stroking his exposed ears.
Xie Linzhou's eyes welled up with tears, and with a blink, his eyelashes became wet.
He simply stopped thinking about it, buried his face deep in Jin Chen's neck, forced himself to close his eyes, and tried not to think about anything.
That's it, he said to himself.
The rain was pouring down, and everything was fast asleep.
Go to sleep first. When you wake up, the sky won't fall down.
