Chapter 2767 The Online Game Master's "Straight Male" Roommate 06
On the other side, Cheng Lang had just finalized his graduation project with his supervisor and came out of the office with Xu Can.
The two stood by the window in the second-floor corridor, waiting for the crowded flow of people below to pass.
Xu Can was still rambling on about his internship, and Cheng Lang would chat with him from time to time.
The sleet cast a gray filter over the sky and the view, the ground was wet, and colorful umbrellas opened like mushrooms, moving about in a hurry.
Strangely enough, amidst the chaotic colors, Cheng Lang immediately spotted that white.
Jin Chen walked out from under the eaves without an umbrella, her head slightly lowered, as if watching the ground to avoid stepping in puddles, giving off a strangely pitiful air.
Cheng Lang clicked his tongue inwardly, feeling a bit annoyed. This kid had reminded him to wear more clothes this morning because of the temperature drop, but he himself hadn't even brought an umbrella.
This rain doesn't look heavy, but getting soaked for too long definitely won't do.
"What are you looking at?" Xu Can leaned closer, following his gaze for a while, seeing only umbrellas and figures. "A pretty girl?"
Cheng Lang withdrew his gaze, lifted his foot, and walked towards the stairs. "I have to go down first."
"Hey? Wait for me!" Xu Can quickly followed.
The two quickly went down to the first floor, but Cheng Lang stopped at the door again.
Xu Can followed his gaze this time.
Through the drizzling rain, a handsome young man in a white down jacket was stopped by a beautifully dressed girl holding a light pink umbrella, and they seemed to be talking about something.
"Wow," Xu Can whistled, finally seeing her clearly, "You know this girl?"
“It’s not that girl.” Cheng Lang chuckled. “It’s that handsome guy, my new roommate whom I told you about yesterday, a junior from the finance department.”
Cheng Lang looked over there. The rain had intensified. He saw Jin Chen shake his head at the girl and say something. The girl's smile faded slightly. She turned and walked away quickly, holding her umbrella. Jin Chen was left standing on the edge of the eaves, watching the rain intensify, and frowned slightly.
"Well, I didn't catch the peach blossom." Xu Can commented.
Cheng Lang frowned, opened his long-handled umbrella, and strode into the rain.
Xu Can responded with a "hey," and quickly opened his umbrella to follow.
Jin Chen looked at the reflection of the sky in the puddles on the ground and silently counted down in his mind.
With three seconds left, a leg clad in dark cargo pants came into view and stopped in front of him.
He seemed to only then notice someone approaching and looked up.
When their eyes met, Cheng Lang saw that Jin Chen's peach blossom eyes suddenly lit up, like a glimmer of light shining through on a rainy day.
"Senior," Jin Chen called out, his tone light and cheerful.
Cheng Lang responded with an "Eh," tilting the umbrella more towards Jin Chen, and laughed, "The young lady offered to come with you, so why are you getting soaked by yourself?"
He joked, then looked at Jin Chen's slightly damp hair and shoulders.
Jin Chen lowered her eyelashes. "We're not familiar with each other, it's not good. It's great that you're here, senior."
His hair was indeed a little wet, and the black hair at his forehead and temples clung to his skin, making his complexion appear even whiter.
Cheng Lang reached out and patted the top of his head with his dry palm. "Okay, let's go. You don't have class anymore, right?"
"Okay, that's all." Jin Chen nodded and looked at Xu Can behind Cheng Lang. "Hello, senior."
"Hey, hello, hello!" Xu Can was overwhelmed by the handsome face and quickly greeted him, "I've heard Langzi mention you before, your name is Jin Chen, right? It's true that seeing is believing, Langzi is really lucky, she even managed to find such a handsome guy as a roommate."
The three of them walked out of the school together.
Xu Can stayed in the dormitory, but turned towards the cafeteria halfway there and waved goodbye.
As the rain intensified, Cheng Lang loosely put his arm around Jin Chen's shoulder, pulling him closer to him, almost half-embracing him.
"It's raining quite heavily, don't get wet." As he spoke, his warm breath brushed against Jin Chen's ear.
This posture was far too intimate, even more so than a simple hug, making Jin Chen, who had planned to proceed gradually, pause for a moment.
[Straight men's concern is so tactless.] Zero chuckled to himself.
Jinchen: "..."
Cheng Lang has an ordinary car for commuting. He usually drives it himself and doesn't think much of it. But ever since Jin Chen sat in the passenger seat a few times, he inexplicably feels that the car has become a bit more classy.
Jin Chen got into the car and fastened his seatbelt.
Cheng Lang handed him a few tissues, saying, "Wipe your hair again, don't catch a cold."
As he started the car, he kept his eyes on the road ahead and carefully drove into the slippery traffic.
Jin Chen took the tissue and slowly wiped her hair, casually asking, "Was that senior a good friend of yours?"
“Yeah,” Cheng Lang replied casually, turning on his turn signal. “His name is Xu Can, and we’re pretty close.”
Jin Chen: "Can I be your friend too?"
This question... stirred up that soft spot in Cheng Lang's heart again.
Look, this junior student has no relatives or friends here, and he's so cautious about asking questions when he wants to make friends.
He laughed and reached out to pat Jin Chen on the shoulder, "Sure, aren't we already? Roommates and friends, a double identity!"
"But you don't have many friends at this school? You're already a sophomore, that shouldn't be the case. Shouldn't someone like you be quite popular?"
Jin Chen slowly turned her head towards Cheng Lang, her peach blossom eyes slightly curved, making her look harmless and beautiful.
His voice was drawn out, each word landing in Cheng Lang's ears:
"No."
pause.
Then, Jin Chen said softly, "But now I have you."
Cheng Lang felt as if he had been hit by a soft cotton ball.
That sounds... kind of...
He couldn't find the right words to describe it, but he felt his protective instincts and sense of responsibility swell up to their fullest extent.
Cheng Lang cleared his throat. "Alright! I'll protect you from now on! You'll have plenty of friends!"
Jin Chen didn't speak again, but gave a soft "hmm" and looked out the window again, the corners of her lips curving up in the hazy, rain-soaked light and shadow.
