Chapter 2784 The Online Game Master's "Straight Male" Roommate 28
Soon, the current program ended, the host announced the next act, the lights dimmed and then brightened again, the set changed, and the actors appeared.
The performance went fairly smoothly, and all the actors went on stage to take their bows amidst applause.
Jin Chen stood up from her seat, holding the flowers, and walked along the aisle towards the stage.
His striking good looks attracted a lot of attention even when he was just walking around the audience area.
The actors on stage were bowing in greeting when the knight saw Jin Chen walk onto the stage carrying flowers and paused for a moment.
"I rely on."
Such a grand display!
Where did his brother find this beauty?!
Jin Chen handed over the bouquet, saying succinctly, "Your brother had something come up and asked me to deliver this."
The knight quickly accepted the flowers, overjoyed, and repeatedly expressed his gratitude: "Thank you! Thank you so much, classmate! You really saved my life... and my brother's life!"
The back row of the auditorium.
Cheng Lang was dragged here by Xu Can, who claimed it was to relax and enjoy the festive atmosphere. Cheng Lang wasn't really interested at first, but then he thought that Jin Chen was also watching the show in the auditorium, and maybe they could go home together afterward, so he came too.
He watched the performance on stage absentmindedly, his mind rehearsing what he would say to Jinchen and what he would do when he got back tonight.
Just imagining that scene made his ears burn uncontrollably and his palms sweat slightly.
I had an online graduation project meeting with my supervisor this afternoon, and now my phone battery is almost dead. With just a little bit of battery left, I quickly sent a message to Jinchen to confirm that he had received the invitation to the Christmas gift. I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw Jinchen's reply and then turned off my phone.
He didn't pay any attention to what was being performed on stage.
Until Xu Can suddenly slapped his thigh hard.
"Hey?! Hey! Langzi, look over there! Isn't that handsome guy giving flowers to that knight your junior schoolmate?!"
Oh no! Is this going to become a prime-time drama?!
Following the direction Xu Can pointed, Cheng Lang immediately spotted the figure carrying flowers walking onto the stage—it was none other than Jin Chen.
The knight who accepted the bouquet from Jin Chen, although his face was obscured by armor, was clearly not bad-looking, given that he was chosen to play a knight.
That specially designed knight's outfit, which accentuated her waist and long legs...
Cheng Lang hardened his fist.
A short while later, Jin Chen also entered the backstage area.
Cheng Lang felt a surge of bitterness welling up inside him, threatening to burst through his throat.
Who is that knight? Why did Jin Chen give him flowers? Are they close? Why did Jin Chen go backstage with him? What are they going to do backstage?
He blamed himself for realizing things too late, wasting so much time on agonizing and backing down. He was also afraid that while he was hesitating and wavering, others had already seen Jin Chen's good qualities and tried to get closer, or had even gotten close to him.
Xu Can watched Cheng Lang's gloomy face from the side and thought to himself, "Goodness!"
"I'll go take a look," Cheng Lang said.
Xu Can: "Support! The time to defend sovereignty has come!"
Cheng Lang walked quickly and hurriedly along the aisle at the back of the stage towards the side.
-
Backstage props were piled up in a corner, with actors who had changed into their costumes and those who hadn't yet moved among them.
Jin Chen looked down at his phone screen, swiping his finger to browse the long string of encouraging words sent by the class monitor. He picked out a few key points and repeated them to the students who were about to go on stage.
The host's voice came from the front of the stage, and the students clapped and cheered, walking onto the stage one by one from behind the side curtain.
Jin Chen put away her phone, not really interested in the rest of the program. She was thinking about the Christmas present Cheng Lang had mentioned and was about to leave through the back door when she turned around and unexpectedly saw Cheng Lang go backstage.
Cheng Lang was still breathing heavily, his coat was open, revealing a light-colored sweater, his hair was messy, and he stared straight at Jin Chen, suppressing an indescribable emotion.
"Senior?" Jin Chen raised an eyebrow in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
Cheng Lang quickly walked a few steps to Jin Chen. As he got closer, Jin Chen saw that his brows were slightly furrowed and his lips were pursed, revealing a hint of grievance and anxiety.
Cheng Lang's Adam's apple bobbed. "Xiao Chen, why did you give flowers to that knight actor just now? Are you two close?"
Jin Chen explained, "He is..."
"Alright, alright," Cheng Lang interrupted hastily, as if afraid of hearing something.
His heart was in turmoil, and he was afraid of hearing a bad answer. He held Jin Chen's hand, which was hanging by his side, very tightly, as if afraid that if he let go, Jin Chen would run away.
"Let's go home, Xiaochen, let's go now, okay?"
His palms were surprisingly cold, unlike their usual warm ones. Jin Chen looked up at him quietly for two seconds, then grasped Cheng Lang's cold fingers in return. "Okay, let's go home."
Jin Chen knew the way to the back door of the auditorium, but the lighting was much dimmer.
Cheng Lang had been in this school for four years but had never been here before. He let Jin Chen lead him around, holding onto her hand tightly and refusing to let go for even a moment.
The two walked slowly down the dimly lit corridor, hand in hand.
Cheng Lang released one hand and pushed the door open forcefully, letting in the cold winter night wind.
Outside the door, a figure carrying two bulging red gift bags ran towards them, almost colliding with them as they were about to leave.
"Jin Chen!" The class monitor, panting, saw Jin Chen and her eyes lit up. "Great! Great! I was worried you'd leave right after delivering the flowers, thank goodness you made it in time!"
The class monitor looked extremely happy. His brother was very satisfied after receiving the flowers and even gave him a large red envelope.
Without saying a word, he shoved the red gift bag into Jin Chen's hand, insisting on putting it in.
"Merry Christmas, Chen! This is a thank-you gift, and an apple for Christmas Eve, you must accept it!" The class monitor grinned from ear to ear and forcefully stuffed the bag into Jin Chen's hands.
After handing out the gifts, the class monitor noticed the person next to Jin Chen. Upon closer inspection, he recognized Cheng Lang and greeted him with a smile, "Merry Christmas, senior!"
Cheng Lang: "..."
My preconceived notion was too strong; I thought this was the actor who played the knight, and the bitterness I had suppressed welled up again.
He hasn't reciprocated Jin Chen's feelings yet; they're still just friends. What right does he have to question her?
The class monitor, still thinking about going back to watch the show, hurriedly thanked Jin Chen again, then darted past them like a gust of wind and ran back to the backstage area.
Only the two of them remained at the back door. Jin Chen, carrying a gift bag, turned to look at Cheng Lang.
Under the light, Cheng Lang's face looked grim. He stared intently at the bag in his hand, wishing he could burn through the red bag with his gaze to see what was inside.
"Senior," Jin Chen called out to him.
Cheng Lang withdrew his gaze, his stiff fingertips gently stroking Jin Chen's face. "...Let's go home, okay?"
They went back to a place where it was just the two of them.
Cheng Lang thought that before he changed their relationship from just friends, he didn't want to see Jin Chen getting too close to anyone else.
Jin Chen felt both annoyed and amused. "Don't you have any questions?"
They've been holding it in for so long!
Cheng Lang didn't speak, but stubbornly held Jin Chen's hand.
