Chapter 1280 Massacre
Adam licked his newly bought strawberry ice cream cone, squinting as he basked in the warmth of the early summer sun. What a wonderful day! The project was finally finished, the weekend was just around the corner, and even the ice cream on the street corner tasted especially delicious. He strolled leisurely along the city center sidewalk, pondering whether to meet up with friends for a drink that evening or go home and play video games.
Suddenly, the sharp, piercing air raid siren ripped through the afternoon tranquility without warning, followed by the official voice, strained and tense, broadcast over the city's public address system:
"Warning! All residents, please take note! Immediately proceed to the nearest shelter or the basement of a sturdy building! Repeat, evacuate immediately! The city is facing an unknown threat! This is not a drill!"
Adam paused for a moment, then found it somewhat amusing. An unknown threat? Terrorists? In this heavily guarded metropolis, where even branches of the Destiny organization had offices? Were those police officers and Valkyries just for show? He scoffed, figuring it was probably just another flawed disaster drill.
The thought had barely crossed his mind when a strange, teeth-grinding sound entered his ears.
Crunch...crunch...
It sounded like countless rough feet rubbing against the ground simultaneously, or like sharp claws scraping against cement and glass. The sounds came from all directions, so dense they sent chills down your spine. A slight but continuous vibration emanated from the ground beneath your feet.
Adam stopped in his tracks, puzzled, and looked around. The wide street was deserted except for other pedestrians who, too, were startled by the alarm and wore blank or panicked expressions. The street scene remained unchanged under the sunlight, with bright shop windows and flashing billboards, but the eerie scraping sounds and vibrations were undeniably real.
"What the hell..." he muttered, his gaze unconsciously sweeping towards the roadside flowerbed.
A sparrow pecking at grass seeds suddenly burst open in his sight without warning! Not an explosion, but as if it had been crushed by an invisible, enormous foot, instantly turning into a blurry mess of splattered feathers and bloody pulp!
Adam's smile froze instantly, as if his blood had stopped flowing.
The next second, an unimaginable force, like a heavy truck traveling at full speed, slammed solidly into his side!
"Ugh—!"
He didn't even see what hit him before the excruciating pain and suffocation overwhelmed him. He was launched into the air, tracing a brief parabola, before crashing heavily into the outer wall of a convenience store behind him! Bricks shattered, glass exploded, and everything went black as he lost consciousness, trapped in the wall in a twisted position, blood slowly seeping out.
Adam's experience was not an isolated case.
The entire street, and even the surrounding neighborhoods, instantly transformed into a living hell. Pedestrians watched in horror as people around them suddenly twisted and snapped at bizarre angles, as if being kneaded by an unseen giant hand; cars were overturned and crushed out of thin air; and deep claw marks or impact craters inexplicably appeared on solid walls.
"Monster! There's an invisible monster!"
"Help me!!"
"Mother--!"
Screams, cries, running, shoving... Order collapsed instantly in the face of invisible terror. People fled in all directions like headless flies, unaware of where the danger came from.
A little girl, about five or six years old, wearing a pink dress, fell to the ground in the chaos, wailing loudly. She clutched a tattered rabbit doll tightly in her hand, crying out in anguish, "Mommy... Mommy, where are you..."
Not far ahead of her, a middle-aged man who was running wildly suddenly froze. Then, as if countless invisible blades were simultaneously slicing through his limbs and torso, he instantly disintegrated into more than a dozen bloody, mangled pieces before the girl's dazed gaze, scattering them on the ground with a crash, staining the road red with blood.
The warm liquid even splashed onto the girl's face.
She froze, forgetting even to cry. A tremendous fear gripped her throat, leaving her only able to stare wide-eyed at the pool of blood and the empty space ahead—she knew that she might be next.
Just as the girl was about to faint from fright, and the invisible killing intent was about to descend upon her tender body—
Phew—bang!
A specially made sniper bullet was fired from a window of a building at a tricky angle, accurately hitting the "air" one meter in front of the girl!
"Pfft!"
The bullet didn't penetrate; instead, it exploded violently the moment it hit! A viscous liquid reeking of a foul stench burst open out of thin air, accompanied by a sharp, short, inhuman scream!
Immediately afterwards, a dull thud came from the ground, and the air there seemed to distort for a moment, vaguely revealing a thin, humanoid outline, which then quickly faded away, leaving only a pool of liquid that rapidly seeped into the ground and a gradually dissipating stench.
This shot serves as a signal—
Boom boom boom boom—!!
Windows on both sides of the street suddenly burst open, and the anti-entropy automated mechs and armed robots that had been lying in wait surged out like a tidal wave! They didn't fire blindly; all their weapons were aimed at specific, meticulously calculated "nothingness"! Energy beams, physical projectiles, high-frequency shockwaves... wove together a deadly net of fire, covering every possible angle of the entire street!
"Squeak—!"
"His!"
“Ugh—!”
Screams of agony and the sounds of flesh being torn apart rose and fell in waves. On the once empty street, dark green liquid burst out of thin air, and blurry figures appeared and fell one after another! Einstein's meticulously planned three-dimensional ambush circle had achieved remarkable results at this moment, with a large number of invisible enemies being killed from their "observable" sides.
"The ambush was initially successful, with a clearance rate of 37%." In the distant command node, Einstein calmly assessed the situation through the monitoring screen, his face showing little joy.
As expected, the enemy reacted swiftly. The surviving invisible monsters no longer charged blindly, but began to counterattack with astonishing speed and coordination. They seemed to be able to sense the source of the attacks, unseen wind blades, shockwaves, and even directly ramming into the exposed firing positions with their brute force.
The sturdy alloy mechs were sliced, crushed, and smashed like paper! The encirclement was torn open with jagged gashes, and the casualties of the ambushers began to rise rapidly.
Einstein remained calm, simply tapping his earpiece and uttering two words into the communicator: "Second paragraph."
Just as the ambush zone was about to collapse—
Om-! ! !
An indescribable sense of heaviness suddenly descended! Centered on a certain point in the street, the gravity within a radius of hundreds of meters seemed to be magnified tenfold! People running frantically were caught off guard and knocked to the ground, broken bricks and vehicle wreckage were deeply embedded in the ground, and even the air seemed to become viscous and solidified!
Those fast-moving invisible monsters were also greatly affected, their movements instantly becoming incredibly sluggish, and many were even forced to reveal clearer outlines due to the sudden increase in gravity!
Immediately afterwards, a figure appeared out of thin air at the center of the gravity field—about ten meters directly above the street—and slowly descended.
Walter Yang held the Star of Eden, which shone with a deep light, his short brown hair fluttering slightly in the turbulent air currents as he silently surveyed the chaotic battlefield below.
"blockade."
With his deep voice.
Rumble——! !
Four colossal walls, each over two meters thick and gleaming with a cold metallic light, appeared out of thin air as if by divine intervention! They rose from the ground in the four cardinal directions, each over twenty stories high, their tops rapidly curving inwards to form a massive metal "box" that completely enveloped the entire battle zone! This utterly severed all communication and visibility between the inside and outside!
That wasn't all. Around Walter, the air rippled like water, and futuristic heavy cannons, rapid-fire machine guns, and rows of floating missile launchers appeared out of thin air, densely deployed around him, their cold muzzles aimed at every corner of the "box."
Without any further orders, all construct weapons opened fire simultaneously!
Thump! Thump! Thump! Boom! Whoosh—! Sizzle—!
The deafening roar of artillery fire and the sonic booms of energy bursts instantly filled the entire metal cage! Dazzling light, exploding fireballs, flying debris, and dark green liquid filled every inch of space! The Herrscher of Reason's creations mercilessly cleansed the invisible enemies bound by gravity and surrounded by walls!
"Hiss! Hiss! Hiss!"
"Gah——!"
"Woo..."
Ten times more intense screams and roars echoed and overlapped within the metal walls, ultimately transforming into a chilling symphony of slaughter.
