Chapter 1757 Obtaining Information
Unable to refuse Li Luo's insistence, Qin Fenglin carefully took the self-heating hot pot, wrapped it tightly in his coat, and tucked it into his pocket, his fingertips showing his deep affection as if he were holding a rare treasure.
"Then...then we won't stand on ceremony!" Qin Fenglin took a deep breath, his tone as solemn as if making a promise, "Whatever you want to know, we'll tell you everything we know, we won't hold back!"
Li Nana nodded vigorously, her eyes slightly red, her fingertips still gently touching the potato's fuzz, her tone sincere:
"Yes! I guarantee there's not a single lie. Ask me anything!"
“Let’s start with the core issue,” Li Luo said, tapping the passenger armrest unconsciously with his fingertips, getting straight to the point, “Are there any specific requirements or rules for entering the Youzhou base?”
She asked this question because on the way from the Jinling base in N City to B City, they had already passed more than a dozen bases of varying sizes.
There are both officially-run, relatively well-regulated bases and private bases led by individuals with special abilities, which are smaller in scale.
Regardless of their size or the strictness of their rules, these bases all share a common hard premise:
Entry will only be discussed after screening infected individuals and confirming their safety.
The subsequent rules for entering the city vary greatly.
Private bases are usually more demanding, either requiring payment of more than 5 kilograms of grain or rare medicines, or directly checking the level of one's superpower.
Those with superpowers below level 3 are generally turned away, and ordinary survivors can only beg on the outskirts of the base.
Among the more formal bases, Jinling Base is considered quite lenient. All you need to do is register your identity, state your purpose, and pay 2 jin of grain or equivalent supplies as a deposit. Once everything is confirmed to be normal, you can enter. Ordinary survivors can manage this by gritting their teeth and saving up supplies for a few days.
"The requirements are very strict!" Qin Fenglin responded immediately, his tone filled with obvious emotion. "Now, if you want to enter the base, each person must hand over 20 jin of grain, or equivalent medicine, weapons, and clean water, and it must be unspoiled and usable directly. If you are even a ounce short, you won't be allowed to step through the door."
"20 jin?" Before Li Luo could speak, Shi Xinxin frowned. "Isn't that too much? The Jinling base only requires 2 jin, how come the Youzhou base is so much different?"
She had assumed that the Youzhou base, being a fairly large and legitimate base, would have rules that were not much different from those of the Jinling base, even if they were stricter. She never expected to hear the figure of "20 jin of grain".
Qin Fenglin gave a wry smile: "It wasn't that much before. It was just a deposit of 2 jin of grain, and you could get in after a simple registration. But something happened half a month ago, and the base completely changed the rules after that, raising the threshold several times over."
"What could have caused the rules to be changed so drastically?" Li Luo pressed, her eyes filled with inquiry.
Qin Fenglin looked around before lowering his voice and leaning closer:
"A spy infiltrated the base! And not just any ordinary spy. They almost destroyed the base's food reserves and tried to steal the defense deployment map and the list of superhumans. It caused a lot of panic for a while, but thankfully it was resolved smoothly. After that, all the rules were tightened completely."
"A spy?" Li Luo's eyes narrowed, and he asked again.
“That’s right, they’re spies sent by foreign forces. What’s their name again… Oh right! Destruction! That infamous Destruction Force!” Qin Fenglin said, raising his hand to tap his head, as if he had finally remembered the key name. His tone was heavy, with a hint of gritted teeth and hatred.
