Chapter 96 Obito?

Obito woke up from the brink of death, his whole body felt like it was burning on fire, the pain was so severe that he could hardly breathe.

He felt an electric current running through his body, and he tried to hold on to the feeling because it was at least familiar compared to the burning pain, although both pains were unbearable and raged through his body. He felt like a giant python was wrapped around his chest, making it impossible for him to breathe.

The two pains eventually began to cancel each other out, blending into waves of eerie throbbing that reverberated through his bones and muscles. When he finally opened his eyes, what he saw was not the familiar red, but a deep blue.

The world became quiet. The two kinds of pain still alternated in his body. The burning and tingling sensations continued to torment his nerves, but he could at least control his breathing now. Fresh air rushed into his pierced chest, dispelling the darkness before his eyes.

He smelled earth and moss, and the air was damp from the rain, and his heavy breathing echoed in his ears and echoed in the empty room.

He tried hard to see his surroundings clearly. Although it was still pitch black in front of him, the darkness was not suffocating like when he was unconscious. He could even see a faint light from the corner of his eyes.

"Don't move!" A hoarse and old voice came from not far away. "I spent a lot of effort to save you. Don't waste my efforts."

"Where is this?" Obito asked weakly. His voice was hoarse and weak, but he believed that the other party could hear him. "Why am I here?"

"This is the Mountain Cemetery, the resting place of demons and monsters, located on the border of Takigakure Village and Stone Country," the voice replied.

"Takigakure?" Obito was full of confusion. He took a deep breath and tried to make himself speak smoothly. "Why... who are you?"

Accompanied by a slight sound of footsteps, an old figure appeared in his sight. It was an elderly ninja. Although the years had left indelible marks on his face, he still maintained the alertness and sharpness of a ninja.

He had long gray hair, deep eye sockets, and his eyes were closed, but a strange chakra emanated from his eye sockets, illuminating the surrounding environment. If Obito guessed correctly, it should be an artificial vision.

"I will answer all your questions, but first, tell me, how do you feel now?" The old man said as he walked to a table in the corner of the room where some medical equipment was placed and several infusion tubes were connected to Obito's body.

"I feel like I'm on fire." Obito answered truthfully. He didn't mention the strange pain because he didn't know how to describe the feeling.

The old man seemed satisfied with his answer. He nodded and glanced at the readings on the medical device.

"This is normal. Nearly 30 percent of your body's tissues cannot be repaired. I can only use cultured cell tissues to replace them. If you reject the transplanted tissues, there's nothing you can do to save your life."

Obito tried hard to turn sideways, and he noticed some strange white patches on his right arm and right side of his body, which were transplanted tissues.

"Why did you save me?" he asked with difficulty, trying hard to make a sound. "How did I come to Takigakure Village? I clearly remember that I..." He spoke intermittently, and had to stop to take a breath after every few words.

"In the right place at the right time. My White Zetsu was on a mission in that area, and when they found you, you were already dying, so they brought you here."

"White Zetsu?"

"Come out and let him see you," the old man ordered.

As soon as the words fell, two strange figures walked out from the shadows of the room. One of them looked like a human, but the right side of its body was twisted and deformed, as if it was sewn together by something, and several spikes emerged from its bark-like skin; the other looked like some kind of mollusk, with most of its body wrapped in a white shell, with only a red eye exposed.

"Were you the ones who saved me?" Obito asked, looking at the two strange creatures.

"We brought you here, that's right." The spiky White Zetsu replied, seeming a little surprised by Obito's question.

"Thank you." Obito said sincerely.

Bai Jue, who had spiky hair, was stunned for a moment, and a hint of doubt flashed in his red eyes.

"They're just tools, imperfect copies of a fool I know. You don't have to thank them," the old man said without turning his head.

This doesn't seem right. Obito thought, although these two White Zetsu looked strange, for some reason, he felt that these two creatures were very similar to himself, perhaps because they had both been used as tools and exploited by others.

"They will stay and take care of you until your body recovers," the old man continued, checking Obito's physical condition with his chakra.

The man paused, as if considering how to start his speech. The light deep in his eye sockets flickered a few times and finally dimmed.

But they didn't abandon me. Obito retorted in his mind. He didn't know why this stranger had such a misunderstanding. He had clearly sacrificed himself to protect his companions and Kakashi.

He closed his eyes and tried hard to suppress the painful memories. This was a secret that belonged to him alone, a pain that he would never forget. He didn't want to mention it to anyone, ever.

"Sorry, it seems I said the wrong thing. Your wound hasn't healed yet, and I shouldn't have mentioned these things." The old man mistakenly thought that Obito had been hit on the point, and there was a hint of apology in his tone.

"It's okay." Obito whispered.

"You should get more rest." The old man slowed down his tone, like an elder admonishing his child. "It will take a long time for your body to recover, and you need to accumulate strength to face the next challenge. I still have things to deal with. If you need anything, let White Zetsu help you."

"Thank you." Obito replied.

The old man nodded, turned and left the room.

It was only then that Obito realized what the dragging sound he had heard before was. It was the cables connected to the old man's spine. The cables extended into the darkness, and Obito could feel the powerful chakra contained within them.

After the old man left, Obito turned and looked at the two White Zetsu standing beside him.

"Thank you for saving me," he told them, noticing that the light in their eyes seemed to grow brighter.

"You've said that before." The spiral-shaped White Zetsu reminded. Its voice sounded a little strange, as if it came from a long distance, perhaps because it had no mouth.

"I don't think it's too much to say it again." Obito said softly. "If it weren't for you two, I would have been turned into a pulp by now."

"It was Lord Madara who used cell tissue to repair your body." The spiked White Zetsu explained.
