Chapter 28
"I've barricaded the basement door."
A new figure appearing from one of the guarded gateways, unannounced. But since none of the men surrounding us raised their guns to him, we knew he wasn't a threat for us.
"How long do you think it can hold them back?"
The man shrugged at one of his companions query.
"I'm not sure, its a metal door though so I think we can rest easy for a while."
I turned to Edward and found him glaring outside the window. His eyebrows were furrowed as he frowned at all the people outside.
"What are they doing?!"
His sudden shout drew all our attention to him as he reloaded his gun.
"Change of plans, get to the closest safe room you can find and hide. Things aren't looking too good out there."
I gulped at his words, trying to peer out of the window but he blocked my line of sight.
"Severus is out there."
"I'm well aware of that."
His curt response had me scowling in return, I tried to side step him but failed as he moved to block my way again.
"The police arriving just riled up the infiltrators, its a full on blood bath out there. You stepping out will only distract Severus. Do you understand what I'm saying? Or do you want to be the reason your husband looses his focus on the battlefield and gets shot?"
I shook my head quickly as he nodded, before moving us away from the door. We didn't retreat up the stairs, instead we found the closest room and safest room near the door to occupy. The three of us females were closer to the adjoined washroom to take cover in case an enemy decided to enter.
After what felt like ages, the sound of shooting and siren's along with all the screams and shouts, stopped outside and I turned to Edward as he glanced back at us over his shoulder.
"I'll go ahead and check, stay on guard."
True to his words he took his leave and the rest of us stayed behind. The man from earlier, the one with the blood filled bangs decided that it was about time he stopped staring and walked over to me.
"So you're the Donna?"
I nodded cautiously as he assessed me again, his eyes locked onto the gun in my hand and I moved it behind me in an attempt to cover it up.
"Is that just for show or do you actually know how to use it?"
I gritted my teeth and nodded slowly, his lips turned into a lop sided grin as he pulled out a similar gun from his jacket.
"Twins."
He held up a 'v' sign with his fingers as the other members sighed and turned away.
"The names Cobra, but you can call me whatever you like, Donna."
He did a dramatic bow and pretended to tip a hat before passing me another smile. I noticed how some of the members gave him cautious stares while the others focused only on the door.
"Adira."
He nodded to me before gesturing for me to hand him my gun, I hesitated for a while but gave it to him as he wiggled his fingers. I gasped as he turned the nozzle towards me, the other members stiffened, turning to him with wide eyes.
"Oye, Cobra what the hell are you doing?"
He cocked his head to the side with a sinister smile on his lips as he licked them slowly.
"So dear Donna, do you know your role here?"
I stared at him in confusion, glancing past him as someone tried to come up behind him but the other members kept him back and settled for silently glaring at 'Cobra'.
"If you do, then why is a little thing like yourself holding a gun? Surely the boss wouldn't have given it to you on his own?"
I stared at the nozzle before noticing that the safety was on and straightening up.
"Actually, he did. And he taught me how to use it as well."
"Well would you look at that? Where's the scared little mistress I saw a minute ago?"
He mocked as one of the men in the back spoke up.
"That's enough Cobra, give her the gun."
Cobra sighed before throwing the gun into the air. All the people in the room ducked as he did so but he didn't even blink and caught it in his hand. This time, the trigger pointed towards me while the nozzle pointed towards him. Everyone in the room released breaths of relief as he chuckled to himself and passed me a smile.
"Sorry about that Donna, just wanted to see what had the brothers so caught up with you."
I laughed nervously before grasping the gun and taking it out of his hand with ease.
The door was thrown open soon after, as Edward emerged, the sounds of gunshots were not ringing inside the house anymore and it seemed eerily quiet.
"Alright lets go."
I nodded, running to catch up to him. He turned his head and looked at me as I stood beside him right in front of the main door.
"The sight out there isn't for the faint of heart Donna."
I smiled at him, stopping myself from full on grinning knowing that he was showing care right now. But my smile was quick to vanish as I remembered something else.
"What could be worse than that human display."
He nodded, hesitating a little before opening the door. He was right, the sight was definitely not for those faint of heart, bodies littered the ground and blood pooled around the feet as a few officers stood talking to Severus.
I sighed in relief, resisting the urge to fall to my knees as the burdened thoughts lifted from my shoulders and the fear vanished. I didn't waste any more time as he noticed me before I threw myself at him, nearly knocking him off balance. He squeezed me to himself in response and pressed a light kiss to my head.
"You're an idiot."
My voice sounded strangled as I pushed my tears back, Severus chuckled in response, making me pull back and glare at him before raising my hands to his face and pulling his cheeks as hard as I could.
"Do you know what I had to go through, You Idiot! I was so scared, not knowing what could happen to you out her~"
"Adira."
"Don't Adira me, I swear to god you moron! I hate you for making me worry like that, I nearly had a fricking heart attack and I want to strangle you right now but I want to kiss you to death as well and its so confusing! Damn it all! I hate you!"
I could hear everyone around me freeze as I yanked him down by his collar and kissed him with all my might. It lasted for only a second as I pulled back and wiped at my tears, sniffling as I did so. I could hear Edward chuckle in the back ground as Severus smiled, reaching out to stop my furious rubbing at my eyes.
"Adir~"
"Don't talk to me."
I interrupted, Edward burst into laughter in the back ground. I didn't have to look behind me to know that it was Donna sniffling and Sally trying to calm her down.
"You still have your fire."
A strangled, but oddly familiar voice spoke up. The tears rushed back to my eyes as I recognized it and turned to the two police officers standing right in front of me.
"...It can't be."
I covered my mouth with my hands as they pulled me into a hug. Squeezing me tightly as my mother buried her face into my shoulder and my father kissed my head.
