Chapter 12 LOA 12
Elijah has gotten a call from the County hospital while he was at work that Adrianna had been shot.
He left the house in a rush, calling the first person that came to his mind.
Rachel, his sister. He told her to call his parents and to let them know they have to come to see him as soon as they can, he also called Adrianna's father even though the drive was six hours to New York he was on his way.
He hurriedly entered the hospital and ask the nurse at the reception to see the doctor in charge of his fiance.
Paparazzi and journalists were waiting outside for him, since he didn't acknowledge them, they would definitely wait, to think he would actually tell the story to them or answer their question was something that would never happen.
He would try to find out what happened from Adrianna and locate the area she went to, he'd have to bribe the eye witness to keep their mouth shut.
For his reputation and her reputation and most especially keeping his family name from being dragged into the mud. Problems being a billionaire, there are people who are envious of him and would use the slightest chance to cripple his company, that's why he will cover the story up and find something else to tell the media workers.
The Doctor was told that Elijah Wilkinson was waiting in the reception area, he quickly went to see him, he had just came out from the surgery room.
"Mr. Wilkinson" he called offering him his hand for a shake, Elijah held his hand in a firm grip and greeted him. The doctor turned to face the woman who followed Adrianna in the ambulance and told her and Elijah to follow him.
"The bullet has been removed, we should be thankful it didn't hit too deep which could have affected her hand" he stated the facts.
"She is in Room 202, and Elijah," he said "thank her for calling the ambulance and helping to stop the blood before the ambulance arrives, I have a patient to attend to, she will see you through" he assigned a nurse to go with them to Adrianna's ward.
She was still sleeping when he entered, dressed in the hospital gown with flowers imprinted on it, he held her hand and Squeezed it lightly.
He hasn't spoken to the good Samaritan yet, he kissed her hand lightly, part of him still felt sad for what she did but he was happy she was alive, he didn't know what he would do.
Even if they might not be together anymore, he still couldn't bear the thoughts of her death, he would run mad. He loved her truly and he knows she loved him too. A hand touched his shoulder slightly, he looked up to see the woman looking at him. He raised his brows at her.
"I'm leaving my work is done here" she stated as matter of fact and turned to leave but he called her back, he stood up and hugged her.
"Thank you" he whispered as he broke the hug, the woman smiled at him.
"Please tell me what happened"
"She came to down to the hood to see Mustapha, I don't know much about him except that he's a plumber a good one at that, he blasts rap music every time and has a lot of girls lurking around him." She folded her arms "I think she came to settle scores with him from what I was able to pick out from their arguments
Elijah was taking in every bit of information she's giving him.
"He hit her first and she hit him back, you know there was a sign that she had bitten his dick because before he died he didn't wear his trouser, he came out wearing a short tight boxer that was stained with blood, he shot her after telling her they would both say hi to the devil together," she told him that was all she knows "nobody knows what happened, its a mind your business area, other people only know that he shot her except me who heard some pieces from their arguments." The woman added rolling her eyes at Elijah
"The pieces you know, if the cops or anyone ask you anything tell them you know nothing, do you understand, for the sake of her life, she's gone through enough already" he held her shoulder. He wrote a cheque of $5, 000 and gave it to her. "Say nothing please" he begged on her way out.
Mustapha was dead. He smiled and imagine how she had fought against him, earning her a bandage wrap around her head, her palms were bandage.
His thought was invaded when the nurse entered the room Handing him a test result they've must carry out on her.
Elijah waited for the nurse to leave after checking on Adrianna. He read through the result, everything was negative including STD.
"8weeks and five days pregnant"
"Positive".
Positive" sweat broke out on his face, he blew air through his mouth, he was so sure that the baby was his, he was happy. He sat back on the chair and relaxed his body.
She opened her eyes, her vision clearing bit by bit, she was scanning where she was and her eyes landed on Elijah, he didn't know she was awake.
"Elijah" her voice sounding raw and faint. He almost jumped away from the chair. Recomposing himself, she chuckled lightly.
"I thought I was dead already" she grinned widely at him "I'm sorry"
"Its fine baby, I'm sorry I left you on your own, we could have handled it together but I let my anger took the best part of me, although I was...."
"Ssshh, she interrupted him " can we just forget all of these happened? please?"
Elijah nodded she held his hand tightly and squeezed it, bringing it to her lips, and kissed it.
"We're having a baby" he broke the news to her smiling sheepishly.
"What?!" Adrianna thought she didn't hear him well so he said it again.
"We're having a baby" he held the paper in front of her, covering her mouth from screaming happily, her hand found its way to her stomach, she rubbed it slightly. She was too happy.
"Your father is on his way here, he would be with us in an hour's time," Elijah said checking the time in his wristwatch.
"My parent would get here by night, they left Oklahoma two hours ago. He told her.
She only nodded her head and heaved a sigh. No more Mustapha.
She didn't feel his death though.
She turned her head to face the wall, drowning herself in her thoughts. When she gets discharge she would explain to Elijah, she wants to leave. They should take a break from all of what had happened she wished he would understand. she didn't notice when he left the room but her father's voice brought her back to reality.
"Daddy" she screamed, he ran to hug her, holding her tight and patting her head. He kissed her cheek, smiling widely to show his pretty set of teeth. Adrianna looks like him though.
"I'm glad you're alive, Thank God" he prayed silently.
Her father was a Christian and he believed strongly in God, he had tried many times to make her understand who God is, but Adrianna always strayed away.
"I miss you daddy" she cried.
"My flower, I miss you more" he replied. She looked to see her stepmom whom she had always called by name, although they get along well Adrianna didn't feel the need to call her mom but today she was going to, she has always acted like a mother figure to her since her mother left to never return.
"Hi mom, come here" she opened her arms wide so she could hug her.
She was surprised Adrianna called her "mom" it was what she had always wanted. Adrianna called her to step-siblings too and hugged her two sisters, they talked about random stuff and reminisced on the good old days before Adrianna had left home.
She hasn't told them she was pregnant yet, she was waiting for Rachel to join them. Her gaze averted from her family to Elijah, she took notice of the dark circles under his eyes, she wondered if he has had enough sleep, she was worried for him.
"I'm here" Rachel burst into the room.
Every head turned to look at her. Elijah slapped his palm on his forehead. Adrianna bent her head and laughed, the rest were smiling.
"I heard some bastard of a guy shot you, tell me everything," she said aloud, hands on her waist and gesturing for Adrianna to start talking.
Adrianna explained everything and announced that she's pregnant. A furious Rachel was calm "thank heaven he's dead, I would have sued him for rape"
"Who raped who," Darmon asks notifying everyone of his presence.
"Dad, don't listen to Rachel," he told him. He hugged his mother and asked how their flight went.
"Five whole hours and another one hour to get here, I could have stayed back in Oklahoma and have to wait for your mother to tell me the story, but No! I don't wanna miss it" he complained bitterly.
What an old man" Rachel thought, she literally rolled her eyes and in a jiffy explained the same story to her parents.
"She's pregnant" Rachel remembered to add.
"I hate it here, can I be discharged and pay for a private nurse to treat me at home" Adrianna was starting to feel nauseated, she asked for the pail beside her bed and threw up in it, she drank some water to rinse her mouth. Her stepmom took the pail and went to flush it content in the toilet.
"Is that what you want, to be discharged and treated at home?" Elijah asked her patting her hair.
Adrianna nodded.
"I'll be right back," he told her and left the room.
