10. Meeting the Pack.
Elena.
I tried to look anywhere else but in the eyes of the people in the large room with me. It was awkward, a very awkward situation to be caught in, especially when the cause of misunderstanding is you.
The little boy whose name I've learnt was Diego soon left too in the same manner as his sister, but it was obvious that he was just imitating his big sister. It made me smile.
Deangelo sighed before speaking, "uh... Sofia?" He called out.
"Yes, Alpha."
"Show Elena around, let her know the rules and introduce her to everyone. Also, allocate the empty room right next to mine on the third floor to her, I need to keep my eyes on her myself." He said and just the fact that I knew that he would be keeping his eyes on me made me shiver, I couldn't afford any slip up at all.
But it seemed like Sofia didn't agree to his choice as she proceeded to counter him, much to my happiness, "Uh... sir... there's an empty room right next to the kids rooms sir, the same one the previous nannies used? I think..."
But then I rejoiced too early because Deangelo interrupted her and would not have his authority questioned, "do as I said, Sofia." He sternly said causing Sofia to nod immediately.
"Good. Now, I have some personal rules and regulations that I would tell you, ones that you should keep in your mind at all times and would cause unbearable punishments if breached but they can wait, go with Sofia first." He directed to me and Sofia was instantly by my side with a smile while we both went out of the room, the Beta closed the door behind us as soon as we were out of the entrance.
"Hy, Elena. I'm Sofia and I'm the kid's tutor just as the Alpha already mentioned, welcome to the pack and I hope that your stay here is one of comfortability, although I cannot in any way promise you that." Sofia greeted, but finished the last part in a stern and threatening voice so I remained mute, a bit scared at her tone.
"Ugh! I'm just joking, girl! Don't take it to heart, do not mind me. I don't mean it that way. You sure will have a good time with us." She said causing me to break into an instant smile while she laughed.
Sofia was as beautiful as a Hollywood star. Her thick, wavy, long blond hair gracefully fell down to her shoulders and encircled her diamond-shaped face. A golden suntan brought out her smooth, clear complexion and high cheek bones. Her slightly arched chestnut brown eyebrows highlighted her emotions by moving up and down as she spoke to me.
Her large deep blue eyes, reminded me of a lake on a stormy day. Her curved nose gave her a little girl look that mde me want to smile when she talks. And her mouth is a small mouth outlined by puffy lips that she accentuated with a glossy pink lipstick. When she smiled at me, her well formed and even, white teeth brighten up her whole face.
She was like a living barbie.
Soon, we got to a space that seemed to be linked with a relaxing lounge and the large kitchen. I immediately noticed a middle aged woman in aprons and a chef's cap. A girl that looked around my age was right beside her and they both laughed while cutting what seemed to be onions.
"Camila, Mrs Cali. Here's Elena, she's a new addition to the pack and she's the kid's new nanny." Sofia introduced.
"Oh, already? I thought Caterina was just off for her maternity leave? She's not coming back?" The younger one asked as she walked towards us.
"No, Camila, she's obviously not. Or would the alpha get a new nanny if she was? Isn't that a rather stupid question to ask?" Sofia questioned sarcastically and I couldn't help but notice the tension between the both of them, it was obvious that they either do not like eachother or they once had issues with one another.
Camila rolled her eyes just before ignoring her and walking up to me for a hug, "hy, Elena. Welcome here, I really, REALLY hope that your stay here is longer than the previous nannies. I hope you don't run away from us too, I think I'll like you and I do not want to cry." She said in a playful tone and I immediately liked her.
Her dark skin was as rich and deep as any stately home mahogany. Her hair were not too long, nor too short. Not too straight nor too curly, but what made me adore them was the fact that they were so perfectly jet black. The shade was so dark with bright shines creating a great contrast. They were soft and silky. I could tell apart each strand.
"Thank you, I think I'll like you too. And I'm definitely here for long," I said confidently. Well, I didn't exactly have any choice, do I?
"Hy, darling. Welcome to the Ferrari's pack, I'm the pack's chef and I do hope that our little devils do not chase you away too. Have you eaten anything?" Mrs Cali, the elderly woman asked me in the most motherly voice ever, one that I shave not heard since I was six or so. Getting all of the attentions and friendliness gave me a nostalgia feeling, I never had them and I felt like I didn't deserve to be treated so nice even though they are literally the bare minimum.
I was about to answer her question when a woman walked in, another middle aged woman. She looked more fancy and expensive than everyone I had meet though. But then I couldn't scratch the noticeable fact that she had a hawkish air about her. Even her nose was curved and beaky, it was the star of her face, and I do not mean that in a good way. It stuck out like a pinch of clay fashioned into a beak. It was arched, but not in a regal way.
She looked like a carnival mask painted in fleshy tones, it was odd to see something that shape covered in real skin and stubble. The look was made more pronounced by the thick black eyeliner she wore so that her eyes seemed to peer from behind her face rather than within it. She had eyes of palest blue that fixed you in ice should you dare disagree or talk out of turn.
She was willow-wand thin, so stick-like that it was hard to imagine her eating much at all, at least not without wiping her narrow lips after every bite. Her hair wasn't so much blonde as a washed out brown, like it just couldn't be bothered to be any colour at all. Like many women of her age she had it cut short to hide its lack of volume.
"What's all these talking and ceremony about? A woman can not just have any beauty sleep around here?" The woman snapped, looking around at everyone in the kitchen and then her gaze stopped on me.
"Who's the stranger?" She asked in a demeaning tone.
"Uh... Ma'am, this is uh... Elena. She's the kid's new nanny and she'll be staying with us henceforth." Sofia introduced, a bit too cheerful than needed, and then she continued, facing me, "uh... Elena? That's Madam Beatrice, the Alpha's mother..."
"STEP! It's stepmother, Sofia. We don't want him storming in here to rage on everyone because of that same mistake, do we? I need my allowance for the month for my new face-lift and I cannot jeopardize that because of someone who doesn't want me been addressed as his mother even though I raised him so stick with his order! Also, what's with the regular change of nannies like we are changing clothes around here, we keep letting in various cats and dogs for absolutely no reason at all. Ugh... whatever. Cut me a cucumber, Mrs Cali, my eyes need to be tended to." Madam Beatrice said and just went back in the same direction that she came.
Silence lingered for a few seconds before Sofia spoke again, "you know what, let's just go check out your room and then go to the kids."
I nodded as I followed right behind her up the stairs, we went past two rooms before we got to the last one and then she stopped, she opened it up and then handed the key over to me. I didn't get enough time to take the room in before she started to walk down the stairs we just took, "Let's go to the kids first, you need to familiarise yourself with them, don't you?" She asked and I nodded.
She went into what looked like the boy's room first bit it was empty so she knocked and went into the next, there we could see the both of them in the large room.
“I’ll let you three get to know each other,” Sofia said as soon as we were in and then she went for the door. “I will be back shortly.”
The door shut and now, I was alone with them. I took in a deep breath and kept smiling. Since Diego had been doing a lot of the talking, I thought he would be chatting away and asking me questions, but the two of them just stare at me, rather expectantly. Like I’m supposed to do tricks or something.
Uh... this was way harder than I ever thought it would be.
