104. Petty Deals.
Salvatore.
While I sat at my desk, surrounded by piles of paperwork, a feeling of unease crept over me. My informant was late, and that never meant anything good. Just when I was about to give up hope, he finally walked through the door, looking disheveled and visibly nervous.
"What do you have for me?" I asked, leaning forward in my chair, trying to keep my tone steady.
"It's about Bruno," he whispered. "He has control over Sofia." My blood turned cold. Sofia was an important asset, and if Bruno had power over her, it could spell trouble for our entire operation. But before I could fully process the implications, my informant continued speaking.
Confusion furrowed my brow as I tried to grasp the situation. "What do you mean by control?" My informant shifted uncomfortably, clearly on edge. "I mean, he has something on her. Something that makes her do whatever he wants."
"And it's even worse," he said, glancing nervously around the room. "Bruno has been using Sofia to make secret deals with the government in the Philippines. Ferrari Cooperation, the company owned by the Ferrari pack, has suffered major losses because of it."
I sank back in my chair, my mind racing. Everything started to make sense. Ferrari, our biggest rival, had recently faced a significant setback. Their secret dealings with the Philippine government had fallen apart, and now I knew it was all due to Bruno's meddling. He had manipulated Sofia to serve his own petty interests, putting all of us at risk. The pieces were finally falling into place. The failed deal, the sudden decline in Ferrari's profits... it was all because of Bruno's greed.
Despite our mutual hate towards Deangelo, I couldn't help but feel annoyed with him as well. It was foolish of him to use someone like Sofia for such insignificant purposes. And to make matters worse, now that Deangelo, our greatest enemy, knew about Sofia's vulnerability, he would undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on her.
I let out a frustrated sigh and ran a hand through my hair. This was a mess, and it was up to me to clean it up. But as I pondered my next move, I couldn't shake the worry about the extent of the damage Bruno had already caused. And more importantly, what other secrets was he hiding from me?
I took a deep breath and tried to calm myself down. It wasn't productive to get angry. Instead, I needed to find a solution to this mess before it spiraled out of control. I had to come up with a plan to regain control over Sofia and make Bruno understand the seriousness of his mistake.
Picking up my phone, I started dialing. It was time to call in some favors and assess the resources we had at our disposal. This was going to be a challenging task, but I was determined to make things right. While Bruno may hold the alpha position, I was the one who kept our operation running smoothly.
As I ended the call, I realized the need to proceed cautiously. Bruno wouldn't be pleased when he discovered I had gone behind his back. Yet, I couldn't allow my emotions to hinder what needed to be done. I had to be strategic and calculated if I wanted to come out on top.
Sitting back in my chair, I closed my eyes for a moment. This was just another typical day as a beta. Obstacles and challenges were constant, but I was confident in my ability to rise to the occasion.
Taking action was needed. I had to confront Bruno about this reckless behavior. Allowing him to make decisions that endangered our business and put us at risk was not an option. As his right-hand man, it fell on me to ensure he made wise choices that would benefit our organization in the long run.
Gathering my thoughts, I took a deep breath and prepared for the difficult conversation ahead with Bruno. I knew he wouldn't take kindly to being questioned, but it was necessary for the sake of our pack. Dialing his number, my heart raced, ready to address his actions and, hopefully, persuade him to change course before it was too late.
"Bruno," I started, my voice steady, "I believe we need to reconsider our approach with Sofia. We can't afford to lose control over her. She's our only informant there, and her value goes beyond something as trivial as what we've been using her for."
However, Bruno wasn't interested in hearing it. "Salvatore," he snapped back, his tone harsh, "I am the Alpha here. You're just a beta. I know what I'm doing, and you need to learn your place."
Bruno's words echoed in my mind as I stared at my phone, unable to believe his dismissive attitude towards my concerns. He had treated me like a subordinate, disregarding my contributions. It stirred up a fiery anger within me, yet I knew I had to control it. After all, taking Bruno's life wasn't the solution. Instead, I had to find a way to reclaim my power and show him that I couldn't be underestimated.
As I ended the call, the gravity of the situation weighed heavily on me. I understood the importance of setting my emotions aside and focusing on what needed to be done.
I swallowed my anger and frustration, knowing that I had to respect Bruno's authority even if I disagreed with him. Deep down, I yearned for the opportunity to prove that I should be the one in charge. I had been waiting patiently for my moment to strike, biding my time until Bruno made a mistake. And when that moment came, I would seize it without hesitation.
In the meantime, I would continue working diligently, demonstrating my value to the organization. I refused to be seen as just a common beta; I aimed to showcase my worth and prove that I was an essential asset. I would gather information, forge connections, and prepare myself for the day when I could assume a position of power.
Leaving the room, my mind couldn't help but wander to the future. What would happen when I finally made my move? Would the members of our organization rally behind me? Would they see me as a worthy successor to Bruno? Only time would reveal the answers. One thing, however, was certain—I would not relent until I reached the pinnacle. No obstacle or person would stand in my way, not even Bruno himself.
