30. I Hate the moon goddess.
Elena.
I looked around awkwardly as soon as Mia walked out on her dad and ran up the stairs as I wondered idly if I should run after her or not I had woken up to preparations that I didn't quite understand, at least, not until Camila had told me and immediately she did, I feel so bad and sad.
i just couldn’t imagine what the kids were going through having lost their mother, but the one person I felt even sadder for was the alpha, losing his mother at a young age and then his wife at an older age on the same freaking day is not anything anybody should be made to experience. I knew that even though he acts like he’s stronger than all that happened to him, he feels it anyway.
“I think it is high time that Deangelo gets a new mother for these kids, don’t you think?” I heard Madam Beatrice say as i looked in her direction.
The few weeks I have used in the house has made me learn about her ways and way of thinking and i would be lying if i said i liked any of it. She was very shallow and speaks without thinking about it, I’ve also noticed how all shes concerned about is her monthly allowance and ways to not get older facially, which if you ask me is inevitable because its so obvious all over her no matter how hard she tries to act like it isn’t.
“I feel like these kids are getting spoilt and bratty by the day and he’s doing little to nothing to curb it. at this rate, they’ll end up rotten. They need to move ahead from Jules already, ugh!” She said again and i had to bite my tongue from saying what was sure to get everyone to ask ‘how dare you?’ and probably get me thrown out even and that is so not anything i want at this stage of my life.
I mean how could she be talking so carelessly despite knowing that this family is mourning, for pete’s sake, why are people so insensitive?
“Honestly, even though Jules was my best friend like you know, I share the same sentiment with you, madam Beatrice. I mean, at least for the good of the kids, if only the alpha can try to get over Jules already, because I doubt if any of that will happen unless he does.” Sofia supported as she handed a cup of some green liquid to Madam Beatrice and i cant help but notice the very subtle way in which Sofia always seem to do and support everything she says, almost as if she was trying so hard to be in her good books or something.
“Right? This is why i like you, Sofia. You remind me so much of my younger days and you reason so intelligently like i do.” Madam Beatrice praised and I couldn’t help the scoff that escaped my throat.
Clowns.
“Do you think uh... Alpha Alessandro will show up this time for his... uh... wife and daughter-in-law’s anniversary?” Sofia whispered loudly, causing my interest to pique.
“Alessandro? That devil? I don’t even think he thinks I exist anymore, I’m probably just the incubator who hatched a daughter he doesn’t even want. And of course, he’s not coming, he doesnt even see the need for any of these, that is one stone hearted man if you ask me. nothing moves him, he not coming anywhere, trust me on that!” Madam Beatrice responded in a somewhat bitter tone that was not hard to catch.
“Heyyyyyy, everyone!” A feminine voice interrupted and we all turned in the direction. A young lady waltzed in dressed in a black dress that looked absolutely beautiful such that it gave a vibrancy that she probably did not want it to give. I immediately noted a similarity in eyes and nose between she and Mia, it was too hard to miss.
She had the appearance of soul fire sparking against the ice, of one who saw right to the heart and would take your entire soul as her friend, keeping it safe come what may.
I watched as madam Beatrice instantly left all that she was doing to hug her and how everyone present welcomed her so cheerfully too.
“Lucy, I can not believe that you simply left me in this cage of lions and left for months, you hardly even call.” Madam Beatrice sobbed as she refused to let go of the hug.
“Mom! That is a whole lie, you just want me to call per hour and that is just not possible and when I don’t do that, you do it causing me to block you sometimes to avoid that.” The lady whose name I have just learnt was Lucy said, chuckling.
“How is talking to your mother per hour a bad thing, huh? Sometimes, you act exactly like Deangelo! The Ferrari snubbing attitude is strong, I do not want it in you!”
“Ugh! That reminds me, where is my brother and my babies?” Lucy says. dismissing her mother.
At the same exact moment, Mia and and Diego suddenly came running down the stairs dressed in their own little black outfits.
“Aunt Lucy!” They both squealed excitingly while Lucy held her arms open, readying herself to take them into a huge hug, no doubt!
“I miss you so much, aunt Lucy!” Diego said as his eyes twinkled with excitement while in her arms.
Even Mia snuggled in, "You're the only person I know that gives indefinite hugs." She said as she refused to let her go.
Her aunt snickered, "Well, love, where else would I rather be?" In that moment the arms squeezed a fraction tighter and Mia breathed more slowly, her body melting into her aunt's as every muscle lost its tension to the spring air.
They both relaxed into her arms so fully it was like they were one organism, melted together. Lucy had a look of contentment on her face, the kind I wish I could wear. She looked like she had everything she wanted in life right there, and would rather be here than anywhere else.
And somehow, she radiated positive energy, one that was needed at the exact time she showed up. It made me see her so differently.
“Have you guys been okay though, how are you doing, Mia? Diego?” She asked as they all disentangled.
Mia looked up at her aunt as tears welled in her eyes in a matter of minutes, “I... I... I am... not fine, aunt Lucy. Mom... mommy died...” She Stuttered and Lucy immediately engulfed her in another warm hug.
“It is fine, girl. Let it all out, it is okay to cry, dear, it is very much okay too. Yes... that’s it, girl. Your beautiful mother is now an angel, watching over you, protecting you, and guiding you with love. I know that nobody can ever replace her but I also want you to know that your dad, me and a lot of people you probably don’t count care about you and you can always count on either one of us, uh?”
I did not know that the sight before me had even caused me to tear up until I started to sniffle. I just could not help but be instantly drawn to this Lucy.
More hugs went on for minutes, even between Mr. Deangelo and Lucy, which was the first time I would ever see the alpha being relaxed with any adult other then Luca. It was obvious that Lucy simply carried around the energy that was needed to brighten these people and that all of them were very fond of her.
Diego was the first to go stand in front on the rites that had been prepared for the anniversary. I stood beside him as he casted his eyes to the arrangement.
“Mama was down here and the moon goddess had taken her. What the freak did she need her for?”
“She’s in a better place, Diego.” I replied him.
With a dopey look on his smug little face, he responded, “she already had a home and I hate the moon goddess for taking her. What is left now? Home with daddy. Daddy who does not even know how to break a smile when I want or utter a kindness, anymore, daddy who found fault in every little thing and wielded his hands like raw hunks of meat.” He kicked at the floor, feeling the only love he'd ever known drain right through his boots and be replaced by ice.
Before I could bend to his height and speak to him, the rest of the pack emerged and I had to move back and create space for the family to stand and pay their respects to the dead.
The anniversary was, above all, a celebration of the lives and accomplishments of the Ferrari queens. Though of dry faces, there were none.
When it all died down, I could not help but ask Camila the one question that I had tried so hard to tuck away somewhere deep in me, I just knew that I had to know so I asked, “how did the alpha’s mom and wife die?”
