89. Here to see Deangelo.
Sofia.
My heart pounded as I approached the Ferrari residence. The anticipation of seeing Deangelo again after what felt like forever churned my stomach. This moment had been the culmination of days of planning and following Bruno's instructions meticulously. His men had even driven me as close to the compound as they could without arousing suspicion before dropping me off. Now, I was on my own.
The Ferrari residence stood before me in all its grandeur. It was an enormous mansion with multiple wings and tall columns. It looked more like an estate than a mere house. The garden surrounding it was immaculately maintained, with rows of vibrant flowers and neatly trimmed shrubs. The entire property was enclosed by a high fence and guarded by formidable men.
I felt tiny and insignificant in the face of such wealth and power. Taking a deep breath, I tried to gather my nerves. I reminded myself that I was doing this for Deangelo, for our love, and for our future together.
Approaching the gate, my anxiety started to unravel. Sweat trickled down my back, and my palms became slick with moisture. I almost turned around and ran when the door swung open. Standing before me was a tall and imposing man, dressed sharply and wearing a cold expression. I recognized him as one of the gammas, and his piercing gaze seemed to cut through me like knives. "What do you want?" he barked.
Swallowing hard, I fought to maintain my composure. I knew I had to choose my words carefully. "I'm here to see the alpha, Deangelo," I whispered, barely audible.
The man snorted, a look of disdain crossing his face. "The alpha doesn't see just anyone. Get lost."
My heart sank at his words. I had traveled all this way for nothing. I tried pleading with the man, explaining that I had an urgent matter to discuss with Deangelo. But he remained unmoved.
As I turned to leave, I remembered Bruno’s instructions and then imagined Deangelo and in our wedding attires. I had come too far to give up at the entrance like this. I knew that I had to take matters into my own hands. I took a deep breath and marched back towards the man, determined to get inside. "Listen to me," I said, my voice steady and firm. "I have information about a threat to Deangelo's life. He needs to hear this. Now."
The man raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. "What kind of threat?"
I instantly knew that I had him hooked. I gave him a convincing story about the Amato pack planning to attack Deangelo at an upcoming event. The man listened intently, his eyes widening with every word.
"Okay," he said, finally. "Come with me."
I felt a surge of adrenaline as I followed the man into the compund. I couldn't believe I had made it this far. I was one step closer to seeing Deangelo.
As we walked through the halls, I tried to keep my cool. I had to be careful not to give myself away. I knew the risks involved in what I was about to do, but I had no choice. I had to see Deangelo. Bruno's instructions were clear, I had to get into that house and get close to Deangelo, no matter what it took.
As I approached the gate, I saw Diego playing football with a boy of his age whom I could not recognize. My heart sank a little, knowing that I was going to have to face the kids soon enough too. I couldn't imagine what they must think of me, after everything that had happened. But I pushed those thoughts aside and put on a brave face.
Diego saw me first and called out to his sister, Mia, who came out immediately. She was suspicious, like the little brat that she was but I was not surprised by her mean look. I tried to ignore her, but inside I was fuming. She was the reason for my exile from the house after all, for everything that had gone wrong between Deangelo and me in a twinkle of an eye. I swore to myself that as soon as Deangelo and I were together, I would send the kids away to boarding school. They would no longer be a hindrance to our love.
Mia soon started to interrogate me, asking me what I was doing there. I remained silent, trying to come up with a plausible excuse. But the truth was, I had none. I was there to see Deangelo, plain and simple. And nothing was going to stop me.
I brushed past Mia and made my way into the house. The familiar scent of the Ferrari home hit me, and it was like I had never left. I walked through the halls, taking in the grandeur of the place. I couldn't help but feel a pang of regret at what I had lost by being exiled from the house.
As I walk into the house, I could feel the hostile glares of Elena and Camilla drilling into me. They are the next group to challenge my presence. I could sense their collective disdain for me, but I choose to ignore it.
Suddenly, Camilla stepped forward, a sly smile playing at the corners of her lips. "Well, well, well," she purred. "Looks like we have the little troublemaker on our hands."
I gritted my teeth, feeling a surge of anger rise within me. I was tired of this bitch’s constant know all about me, she annoys me to the depth of my bones. "I'm not a troublemaker," I hissed. "I'm just here to see Deangelo."
Camilla scoffed. "You think you can just waltz into our territory and demand to see our alpha?" she spat. "He banished you, so you have absolutely no right to be here, Sofia." I could see Elena trying to drag her back as she was almost in my face and I was angered even by what Elena was doing. Her pretence of being good and standing up for people was so fake and I could see right through it.
But then, I had more important things on my mind. Deangelo was who I was here for, he was the one who had the final say in here not any of these dimwits and he was definitely somewhere in this house, all I had to do was see him and only him.
Suddenly, I was interrupted by Madam Beatrice's slurred voice. She sounded slightly drunk, even though it was only afternoon, and she was trying to flirt with the former alpha, who looked bored and was clearly trying to find a way to escape her advances. I rolled my eyes at the sight of it. Beatrice had always been a nuisance, but now she was even more insufferable.
Then, I noticed the former alpha’s eyes flicker towards me. I felt a shiver run down my spine as I remembered the fear I always felt around him. He had always seemed to know more about me than I was comfortable with. I quickly diverted my attention away from him and focused on what I was here for. But before I could even take any more step, Luca and his men enter the scene and I could tell from the no-nonsense look on their faces that they wanted nothing to do with me. My heart sank as I realized that they were going to throw me out of the house. I knew that I had to act fast if I wanted to stay here and be with Deangelo.
I took a deep breath and walked towards them, trying to appear as confident as possible. Luca and his men towered over me, but I refused to cower in their presence. I stood tall, meeting their gazes with a steely determination.
"What are you doing here?" Luca demanded, his voice laced with anger.
"I'm here to see the alpha," I replied, my voice firm.
Luca sneered at me. "You think you can just waltz back in here after everything that's happened? You're delusional."
I felt a pang of hurt at his words. I know I made mistakes, but I was willing to do whatever it takes to make it up to them all. "I know I messed up, but I deserve top be here," I said, my voice trembling slightly.
Luca rolled his eyes. "Save it. The alpha’s instructions are final and this is you blatantly disobeying him right now and you know that I would not take that from you for any reason at all, no matter who you are!”
I felt tears welling up in my eyes, but I refused to let them fall. The room fell silent as Luca and his men stared at me, their eyes filled with fury. I knew that I was walking on thin ice, but I refused to give in to their intimidation tactics. I was not going to let them bully me into leaving. I took a step closer to him, my fists clenched at my sides. "I am not leaving until I see him," I said, my voice fierce.
Luca looked like he was about to say something else, but then Deangelo walked in. "What the hell is going on here?" he demanded.
My heart skipped a beat, and I felt a rush of emotions flood my body. I had missed him so much, and now he was standing right in front of me. He looked as handsome as ever, but there was a hint of weariness in his stance. I wanted nothing more than to run into his arms, to feel his warm embrace.
My heart was pounding so loudly in my chest and I was sure everyone could hear it. I had made it here, and I was determined to get my job and him no matter what it took. I would had to plead with him and beg for his forgiveness, but at least he would hear me out. My mind was in a haze as I saw familiar faces around me, all staring at me with different emotions. Camila glared at me, Elena looked skeptical, Madam Beatrice was trying to flirt with Alessandro, Luca and the other men were all scowling at me, Mrs. Cali looked a bit sympathetic and Alessandro looked like he did not give two fucks about me.
"Alpha, please," I started, my voice shaking a little. "Can we talk in private for a moment? Just for old times' sake?"
Deangelo looked at me with a stern expression. "Sofia, if I didn't kick you out the second you stepped foot on my property, it was only for old times' sake," he said coldly. "Say what you want to say here and now. What could you possibly have to say that you can't say in front of everyone here?" he asked, his tone dripping with sarcasm.
I looked around at the unwanted audience and felt a pang of embarrassment. I knew how it looked and how pathetic I was being. But my love for Deangelo was overwhelming, and I had to keep trying. I tried to swallow my pride and kneel down in front of everyone. I could feel the cold floor beneath my knees, and I started to beg.
"I know I messed up. I know I shouldn't have done what I did," I began, my voice trembling.
"You think?" Deangelo interrupted, rolling his eyes.
I took a deep breath and continued. "But please, I'm begging you. I need my job back. I can't survive without it. I promise I'll work twice as hard and I'll make it up to you. I would never repeat what happened ever. Please, Deangelo, give me another chance."
I begged for a while, groveling and pleading until I could see that even Mia, who had been glaring at me earlier, was moved by my desperation. Mia stepped in and pleaded with Deangelo on my behalf. "Dad, it is not Ms. Sofia’s fault, you know how much of a good worker she is and how she has always been loyal to you. Mom would not have wanted this either so please, give her another chance."
I felt a glimmer of hope, my heart racing as I waited for Deangelo's response.
Deangelo sighed and looked back at me. "Fine," he said finally. "But this is your last chance. One more mistake and you're out."
I felt a wave of relief wash over me. I couldn't believe it had worked. I had thought he would be furious with me for showing up unannounced and begging in front of everyone. But he had forgiven me, and I was once again in his good graces.
As I left the house, I felt a new sense of hope. I knew that I had a long way to go before I could win his heart, but at least now, I had a chance. I had to make sure I didn't screw it up this time. Now, I was willing to do whatever it took to get what I wanted.
