Chapter 19 DREAM GIRL
Remembering the time when I had first opened the diary that had fallen on me in the little room on the other side of the floor where I used to live earlier when I had just moved in this house, seeing my husband's name on the very first page, did get me excited and it piqued my curiosity to read what was written inside even more. So, I didn't wait any longer to turn to the next page and start reading what was written in that little book.
The first sentence on the second page was that everything that was mentioned in it was the kind of girl that he wanted to have as his life partner. It felt very personal to me, but this could be one way of getting close to Charles, I thought, and I got more eager to read what was written inside it because it could make me aware of the things which Charles expects from a woman to consider making her a life partner.
And just as these four, five lines of rules were over, something which seemed to be the one wish of finding his dream girl that he had set for himself to achieve was there. In a very stylish way, even though I understood he did not know calligraphy, but still he did his best to give the title to his diary by writing 'Dream Girl' in the middle of the first page.
It was quite interesting to know that a strict guy as Charles could have wishes just like any of us. That was the time that I could connect with him and think of him on my level instead of imagining him to be someone above everyone else. Since he had been so emotionally reserved, it was difficult for me to believe that he thought like all of us.
On reading about something that a man had written on the kind of girl that he would like to commit to later in life made as a teenager, I am guessing, made me feel very special. It was nothing but pure luck of mine to get a hold of that a little after I moved in with him. Whatever was written in that diary, I could use it for my benefit. That thought was sending chills down my spine!
As I was turning the pages to get a quick glance at what was there in it, I was getting an earthy smell from the yellow spots on the papers that were telling me clearly that it must have been at least a decade ago when it must have been written. Some pages were even tattered, and most of them had deckle edges. Despite the book being old, there was beauty in it because it had emotions and wishes listed in it which were handwritten as well.
Surprising as it was to me because I had rarely ever seen Charles holding a pen. He has always been engrossed in electronics from the time that I have known him, and even back then he always had either his phone or his tablet in his hand and a pen only if he had to sign a document. His assistant, Edward, would hand it over to him if his signature was needed on some document.
To clarify whether the diary actually had the points that will help him decide on the features of his future partner or if there were terms and conditions for him to choose his wife, I flipped through the pages to get a clear picture so that I knew what I had to focus on before someone came over there to knock at my door. And I was right; things that he wished his future partner to be like were written down in it. In fact, it even had some illustrations on the way that she should dress up, etc.
I got excited when I turned back to read everything that he had compiled and written on the second page. Some of them were easy to achieve for me, but every single thing required a lot of money. Finding such a sweet girl in the current times was definitely never going to be possible for him, and that is why maybe he never talked to me about his feelings to me and never mentioned that diary as well.
Initially, it was all magical to have accidentally found that book when I was learning the map of the house. Later it also felt somewhat unreal to experience everything that he had mentioned because it seemed to me that he did not think the whole thing through, or maybe he had, and because he has always been rich, it could have been possible for him to win any girl and make her his dream girl of his with the power of money.
He has always been fond of making little to do lists, and has nearly always achieved every goal of the day, week, and also the month. But this was something that he never really cared about sharing with me, and I wonder if he had shared it with anyone else. I am afraid of the way that he might react, but most certainly he has no reason to be pissed at me for reading his diary and trying to be the dream girl for him.
Wanting to keep that diary with me to learn the way that I must change myself for Charles to notice me as his suitable mate, so I hid it in my wardrobe, and I went to see what else was hidden inside that little room. There were a few more books and notebooks kept on the shelves there.
What caught my attention the most was a photo album which didn’t look very old, but it also wasn’t brand new. That was going to be the next thing to let me take a peek in Charles life, so I picked it up from the top shelf and hid it under my t-shirt to carry it to my room without getting caught by anyone because everything that was kept inside that confined space which looked as if it was Charles storage space and had stuff that he wanted to preserve and save it from other people seeing it.
So, I quickly brought the album to my room, and I was very inquisitive to know what photographs he had preserved. Something in me was also hoping for the album not to have anything that would change the way that I felt for Charles at that time because from everything that I already knew about him, he surely had a debatable past which would have been very interesting to others but not for someone who wanted to be with him.
