Chapter 37 BOUQUET TOSS
It felt beautiful when we got to the wedding ground, and Charles asked me to continue to sit in the car. He got out from his side and walked to my side to open the car for me. He had even given me his hand for support to manage my dress and get out of the car just fine.
Entering the wedding lawn was the most beautiful experience. Charles gave me his arm to hold as we walked in there. That was one amazing experience because I was holding the arm of the man I loved and walking for all the others to see. Because he was a billionaire, people's eyes were on him.
The wedding did not have many media people running around here and there. Instead, they were all gathered towards one section that was reserved for them. So, that was one thing which did not make me very happy because I wanted to be seen with him.
Seeing Erica and her man together gave me hope of getting married some day to the man who I would love. Both of them complimented each other very well and looked just perfect. They looked very happy as if they had wished for this moment for a very long time.
The entire wedding happened in a flow, and people looked very happy with the whole setup. Everybody wished the bride and the groom very nicely. It was nice of Charles to introduce me to the people he knew, and I absolutely loved the way that he treated me at the complete event which was a little above my expectations.
At the time, Erica was going to toss the bouquet, it reminded me of the intensity I had to get married. The tradition of tossing the bouquet had been very captivating to me as I always wanted to be the one to catch it because that would mean that I was going to be the next to walk down the aisle.
But because I was recently introduced to Erica and marriage was not on the cards for me any time soon, I chose to walk away from her friends who were standing behind her to catch it. On seeing me getting away from the crowd, Erica pointed out to her younger sister not to let me go away from there.
So, her sister walked to me, held my hand, and dragged me back to where everyone was standing. It was really sweet of Erica to pay attention to me and give me that importance despite the fact that we had met only once at Charles’s house.
I stood there in the group knowing that out of more than fifty girls standing there to catch the bouquet, it was most certainly not going to come to me, but I was still excited just like everyone else to see who would catch the bouquet because the tradition was such.
Erica, who was the bride, was standing in front of all the girls showing us her back. I happened to look at Charles on my left standing with the boys, and the way that he was looking at me, I looked at him giving him the expression of being forced to stand here as I smiled with my eyebrows slightly raised. It was comforting to see him smiling back at me.
Erica was swinging the bouquet a couple of times piquing curiosity in everyone’s mind. She would take the bouquet down with her hands stretched while bending a little to be able to throw it with extra force as she would straighten her back. But a couple of times that she stood back straight, she wouldn’t throw the bouquet.
Instead, she would repeat the act again. This happened for three, four times, and when everyone was laughing at being fooled by her, they had their eyes moved away from the bride and were looking at each other to laugh with them. I even felt one, two times that it happened, as if she wasn’t sure to throw it. But when it was happening again and again, I also understood that she was doing it on purpose.
When I looked to my right to laugh with her sister who got me to stand with her in the group with all the other girls, I didn’t realize that Erica had turned around to face us and started walking towards the crowd until I looked straight where the bride was standing to toss the bouquet at us.
Not able to understand why she was walking towards us, I looked at her sister once again to see her reaction as that would at least let me know if it was a good thing what Erica was doing since I had no clue on how to react at things that were happening; the bouquet was not being tossed and now Erica was walking towards us all instead of tossing the damn bouquet and leaving the party to go on a honeymoon with her husband.
At the moment that I looked at Erica in front, it looked like she was handing me the bouquet instead of throwing it in the crowd. I was absolutely clueless. So, I accepted the bouquet not knowing what kind of an expression should be there on my face. I was only standing there like an idiot and seeing the beautiful flowers in it.
In the meantime, I felt someone tapping on my shoulder. As confused as I was at that time, I turned back to see who the person was and what help they needed from me. While I was turning around, I saw the other girls who were standing in the group making way and gathering to one side. This still wasn’t helping me to understand what was happening.
So, once I had turned completely with my back towards where the bride was standing for the bouquet toss tradition, my eyes continued to search for the person who was tapping on my shoulder. When I failed to see anyone at my height, my eyes automatically fell on someone who had gone down on his knee.
On realizing what the fuck was happening, I was beyond surprised to see Charles down on one knee with a ring in his hand as he looked up at me with a smile so sexy. It was then I connected the dots about Erica coming home before her wedding, asking her sister to call me back and make me stand with them in the group, and handing the bouquet to me instead of tossing it. That was the fairy-tale break to my boring life.
It was a magical moment for me that felt as if I was living my dream. Just like every girl has a dream of living the fairy-tale love story, or at least getting to experience it once in a lifetime, I also did until I met Charles. My whole life took a sharp U-turn from the day that CEO Charles Lozano came into my life.
As soon as all the cheering and clapping was over, which seemed like forever that all the guests at the party were doing on seeing such a movie-like scene, it felt quieter for anyone to hear what was being said. That is when Charles finally started to talk after being on one knee for a couple of minutes.
He presented, “You are an amazing woman; the best lady that I have ever come across, and you deserve the very best in life. Will you let me be that one?”
And in the time those people were looking at me to see what I would answer, without any delay he proposed, “Ms. Olivia Pierce, will you marry me?”
