Chapter 91: Waiting
They sit there for days, taking turns. Aaron took the first shift and stayed for almost 24 hours. When Kelly arrived, Aaron was sound asleep slumped over the chair. She didn't want to wake him because he looked so peaceful, but she eventually did so he could go home and get a good night's sleep.
The next day, Aaron came back and looked so much better after a shower and a shave. Kelly on the other hand looked frazzled. Her hair was getting frizzy, and she had dark circles under her eyes. "Go home, he told her." So, she left hoping that before she returned the next day, they would hear some good news.
Finally, on the third day just as Aaron was about to leave a nurse comes out and tells them that she is awake, then the doctor shows up and notifies them that she has woken up but has a bad headache so there won't be any visitors till they can check her out thoroughly.
Kelly and Aaron sit in the waiting room patiently for another three hours till the doctor returns and tells them that one may go in at a time for five minutes each. Aaron turns to Kelly and motions for her to go in first.
When she opens the door and walks in, right away she sees that Samantha looks so much thinner than she had been a couple weeks earlier. Her thoughts turn to what she should or shouldn't say to Samantha. She settles on just small talk so she doesn't upset her.
Kelly sits down on the side of Samantha's bed and rubs her hand. She notes that both hands have I.V.'s attached to them, so she is careful when she does. "Hey, sis. Are you feeling better?"
"Sort of. They put me on antidepressants, so I feel kind of weird to tell you the truth. I hope you haven't been sitting out there this whole time waiting for me to wake up."
"No, actually Aaron and I have been taking turns in 24-hour shifts. Aaron was just about to leave when the nurse and doctor let us know you were awake. So, he's been up for over 24 hours now. He really does care about you."
"I know, but we really have never had that spark and we both loved other people. Of all people you should know that."
"Yeah, that's so true. I still feel bad about how I treated Aaron. It was difficult to call him, so Joel told him about you. He came rushing in, it looked like he had been crying on the way."
"Oh no. I feel so bad." Samantha starts to cry, and Kelly holds her while she rubs her back and tries to console her. They sit there for a few more minutes and then the nurse comes in and tells Kelly she must leave so Aaron can visit. As Kelly walks out the door she looks back at Samantha and hopes she won't ever do this again."
Aaron slowly walks up to Samantha's hospital room and then enters. He takes one look at her and instantly wishes he hadn't. His heart starts to ache, and he feels such a sadness he has never felt before. He walks over to her bed where she has her eyes closed. Right away he sees that both hands have I.V.'s and that she is hooked up to three monitors.
"Hey you. You scared the hell out of me." He looks down at her and caresses her cheek with the back of his hand softly.
"I'm so sorry. I just couldn't do it anymore. I'm not strong enough."
He collects her in his arms and holds her against his chest. "Please don't ever do that again to me. When I found out you tried killing yourself, I wanted to be with you. I mean it, I wanted to die. So don’t because I love you more then you will ever know."
She looks up and their eyes meet. Seeing the hurt in his eyes she reaches up and locks her hands in his hair as she kisses him, then she stops and asks, "Do you really mean that?"
He takes her chin in his hand and forces her to look him in the eyes again. "Yes, with all my heart. I was a fool to ever let you go the first time, and I thought I had loved Kelly at one time, but I was dead wrong. When I realized that you might never come back to me, I couldn't stand it. I have never felt anything as powerful as this before. I will always love you, even if you don't love me in return. There isn't anything I wouldn't do for you."
She starts to cry, and he quickly kisses the tears away, "Baby, what's wrong?"
"I'm not sad. I'm happy. The doctor told me something when I woke up."
He helps her sit up in bed and runs his fingers up and down her arm, "What?"
"You won't believe this but the morning we had sex without a condom apparently I got pregnant in spite of the contraceptive." She looks into his eyes to see his reaction.
"Wow. But is it O.K? I mean you tried to kill yourself?"
"Yes, when I woke up, they ran tests and it's perfectly fine. It's so early on that it hasn't started breathing yet, so the gas didn't affect it at all. We are pregnant, that is if you want to be with me?"
"Is that a question? You’re my world and you just told me one of the greatest things a man can hear. I love you so much."
"I want to make you happy. You have had such heart break over the years, I want to make it all better." She looks at him with loving eyes as he starts to kiss her. His hand moves to cup the back of her head and support her while he kisses her passionately.
He stops for a moment and tilts his head, "Tell me, how does it feel to have our baby in your stomach?"
She smiles and kisses him lovingly, then answers him. "It's the most amazing thing. I can almost feel it growing inside me and it makes me feel so filled with love."
"Well, just remember that when you start getting morning sickness." He laughs and then runs his thumb over her bottom lip. His eyes tracking her tongue as it flicks out and licks where he touched a second before. "Oh, what you do to me."
Samantha hushes him with a kiss and runs her hand down to his zipper where she can feel him already hard for her. She unzips his jeans and reaches inside. Rewarded by her efforts he's ready to go with a hard cock, waiting for her to touch. It quivers and moves as she strokes him, starting to blush as he realizes the doctor or nurse could come in at any moment.
