Chapter 5
Chris hit the punching bag constantly in anger. He was angry at everything and most especially himself.
He blamed himself for the many misfortunes he faced from the day he lost his parents to this very day. He blamed himself for hurting the person who he had come to like and because of his insecurities, chased her away.
As he remembered his arguments with her and the hurtful words he said, he groaned and punched the bag.
As he remembers her words to him and how she didn't want him closer, he would groan and punch the bag harder. He improvised the bag to be him and that he was beating up himself. He believed he deserved it for his stupidity and irrationality.
Lily had walked away and went into the arms of Liam and that hurt him more than ever. It was as if he lost her to someone who he always felt inferior to. "Fuck you Liam!" He said through gritted teeth as he punched the bag.
After a while, Chris was lying on his back on the floor with a bottle of water at his side. It has been a long time since he felt so angry with himself. For years he hated himself and fought hard to get over the memories of his past.
Lily returned back home that evening still angry as she couldn't get over her issue with Chris. She couldn't believe he would say and act like that with her after all they've gone through. She had made sure to carry on with her anger and went into the arms of Chris to hurt him and when she saw the way he looked at her, her heart broke but it was too late to regret her action.
While she was with Liam all day, he could tell something was bothering her and as much as he used different means to get an answer from her, she wouldn't tell him anything.
They both ended up just sitting down and not talking as Liam didn't want to force her to speak and respected her decision.
She fell asleep and when she woke up, she told him she wanted to leave. Now that she is back home she couldn't help but reminisce about what had happened and how their day started to how it ended.
She opened the door to her room, closed it, went to her bed and fell down flat on it.
She sighed, ``Worst day ever!" She was still comprehending how the whole situation had turned upside down. They were kissing and smiling and the next saying hurtful things to each other and doing things to hurt each other.
"Who is there?" Lily said after hearing a knock on her door. She wasn't in the mood to see anyone.
"It's me." Chris said from behind the door and she jumped off her bed with her eyes wide open.
Her heart began to beat. As much as she didn't want to see him, she wanted to and she had no control over it.
"Before you tell me to go, please listen to me." He said from behind the door. From the way he spoke, Lily could tell he was begging for her audience.
She sighed, "Come in."
Chris twisted the door knob and made his way into her room. His conscience kept judging him as he couldn't raise his head up to look her in the face. He felt his palm become sweaty as his heart beat faster than normal.
He thought of words to begin with and how to get her to forgive him.
"Hello." Lily called to the attention of Chris who has been quiet for quite a minute since he entered her room.
She said as now sitting with her legs crossed on her bed with a pink pillow in her hands as she squeezed it.
Chris inhaled and exhaled before licking his dry lips to make them wet. "Can we talk?" He said.
Lily shook her head in disbelief. "You already said that already and I said yes so please go on. I don't have all day to waste," she said nonchalantly and that hurt him.
He knew she had every right to be angry with him and speak rudely to him since he was the one to have caused the situation between them.
"About today, I'm sorry." He whispered but loud enough for Lily to hear.
Lily scoffed, "Sorry, please repeat yourself."
He knew what she was doing and he didn't mind it. As long as she'd be able to forgive him so they can move on, it was fine by him.
"About today, I'm sorry." He repeated.
"Did I fall? What happened today? Mind helping me reminisce?" She raised her brows at him in a questioning manner.
Chris found her attitude childish but he told himself before he came here that he wouldn't get mad or let her win by riling him up so he chuckled lightly making Lily frown.
"What's funny?" She hissed.
Chris pinched the bridge of his nose as he sighed. "Are we really going to do this?" He asked.
Lily was doing this intentionally so that he would bring up talk himself and then they could settle it. As long as he wouldn't bring it up, she wouldn't and she would keep on dragging the matter.
"Did you have fun today?" He asked me to change the topic.
Lily rolled her eyes at him. He was good at changing the topic and acting as if nothing happened. She just couldn't help but think why her heart had chosen him of everyone.
He doesn't treat her the way she wants and has hurt her more than he had pleased her.
He moved closer until he was now sitting on her bed and now beside her. Lily looked at him with a questioning look as if asking him who gave him the permission to sit on her bed. He takes her hands with him and caresses them.
"About today I am really sorry Lily. I know I said hurtful words and acted immature and all of them are inexcusable but please forgive me."
"I know I shouldn't have thought Ill of you or imagine you doing other stuff with Liam but I just couldn't help it. I let my insecurities get the best of me and acted so stupid earlier this morning, hurting you and myself and I deeply regret my actions, I hope you find it in your heart to forgive me." He said those words looking deep into her eyes so she could see the sincerity in them.
Lily couldn't help but melt into his words. Her eyes welled up in tears at his apology and she sniffled a little.
"You are so mean," she said, her voice about to break. The tears she was holding back rolled down her cheek as she wiped them with her hands.
Chris' heart clenched. He leaned closer and hugged her. Her tears dropped on his shirt and he didn't mind it. He wanted her to smoke and be happy and not sad.
"I'm so sorry." He apologized while patting her back.
"You are mean Chris, I hate you." She said and he replied with, "You do not hate me, I'm sorry."
After a while, he pulled her so she could be looking at his face and he kissed her tears away. She heaved a sigh of relief.
"Do you forgive me?" He asked.
Lily had already forgiven him the moment he said those words but she wanted him to hurt a little more for hurting her.
"It depends," She shrugged looking away and he smiled.
"I'm glad we are on good terms." He said.
"Says who? I am not going to be on good terms with a mean person." She hmph and he smiled more.
"You hurt me," he placed his hands on his chest feigning hurt.
She chuckled, "I am still not going to forgive you." She said to him.
"Really?" He said leaning close and she nodded her head in confirmation. He places his hands on both sides and before she knew it, he started to tickle her.
"Stop it?" She pleaded jumping so he would stop tickling her.
"Stop it please!" She laughed out loud.
"Say you forgive me and I will let you go," he said and she shook her head.
"I won't!" She shouted.
"Okay fine, fine!" She laughed out and he stopped tickling her.
"That's good, now kiss me." He said and she rolled her eyes at him.
"You are so petty! You just asked for forgiveness and now you want a kiss?" She scoffed.
"Will you kiss me or should I tickle you again?" He threatened and she opened her mouth in shock.
"You are..." She was cut off as a pair of two lips landed on hers. Her heart raced faster than normal.
"It tastes sweet." He said looking at her frozen state. He couldn't help but smile at her look at his action.
He got off from her bed and wiped the side of her lips, "Goodnight sweet cheek." He leaned back and kissed her cheek.
"Good night," she said to him.
Just then they heard a knock on her door and they froze.
"Princess are you in there?" Her father's voice got both of them heart beating faster than normal.
Her eyes widened in shock as Chris heartbeat in trepidation. Although the room was cold, beads of sweat formed on Chris' forehead and Lily's palm became sweaty.
"Ye...yes." she stuttered.
"I'm coming in," he said and that had Chris snap back to reality and he was quick to run into her bathroom before her father got into the room.
Just as Chris shut the door, Lily's father walked in. He could tell something was off in her room but he couldn't pick what it was and decided to ignore it.
"Good evening daddy, what brings you here?" She asked, trying to play things cool with a smile on her face as if she was excited to see him. Lily has always been excited to see her dad but a situation like this wasn't the best for her.
"Your room looks different but I cannot tell what it is that makes it different," he said, still looking around.
The skin between Lily's brows creased in confusion. "Dad, are you okay?" She asked him with so much concern laced on her tone as she placed her palm on her forehead.
"What are you doing?" He chuckled lightly.
"Dad!" She exclaimed playfully while shaking her head.
"Do you have amnesia?" She asked him and he wondered the reason for her absurd question.
"Why do you ask Lily, I am only saying what I observed." He defended and she face palmed herself.
"Dad just last month, you suggested I renovate my room and I did and you said you loved it but now you are confused?"
It dawned on her father now and he laughed himself. "I am..." He trailed off laughing.
"I am growing old," he said.
"You are really growing old," she seconded and he sighed.
"You can't blame me Lily. I mean all my life I've known you with the colour purple and you changed it to silver and black which is why." He defended.
Lily nodded her head. Purple is her favorite colour and when her father suggested another colour, she decided to.
She mostly had purple outfits and purple accessories more than any other colour.
"So what brings you here daddy?" She asked him. It was rare to have her dad come into her room by this time. He would only come and kiss her on her forehead and leave but today she could tell he came with a purpose and that purpose made her inquisitive and curious.
Her father sighed, "Well Lily, I came here because Liam called."
