Chapter 16
Chris followed behind Lily. He wondered what it was she had to say to him.
She opened her door, made him enter and close the door. The skin between his brows creased as he thought she was up to something that he wouldn't like.
Lily placed it around her room making Chris wonder. Why wasn't she saying anything? He thought to himself as he watched her.
She opened her mouth to say something and then she closed it again. He wondered what it was that she had to say to him and he hoped it wasn't something that would hurt him.
"Chris." she finally spoke after a while.
"Yes." he answered. He looked at her, waiting patiently for her reply.
"Chris, " she called again.
"Yes." He replied. He raised his brows in a questioning manner as if asking her to speak but then she exhaled instead.
He sighed, placed his hands on his waist and spoke, "What is it?" He asked.
"I'm sorry." She finally voiced out but her voice wasn't loud. She was so nervous. She has never said sorry to anybody before and here she was apologising to him.
She felt her stomach churn from fear that he might not accept but then again she wouldn't mind that.
"You say?" He asked. He heard her but he wanted her to be specific and loud.
"I...I said I'm sorry," She whispered again.
"If there is nothing you have to say, u will take my leave then," he said. He turned around to leave but her voice stopped him.
"I am sorry Chris." She finally voiced out loud. He halted.
He turned around slowly to look at her. "For what?" He asked.
She sighed, face palmed herself and licked her lips. She paced around for some seconds before moving closer to him. "For making you doubt my feelings," she said.
"What feelings?" He was asking her all of these questions so he would know what she meant and clarify everything once and for all. He didn't want an apology where she was apologising for the sake of it and wasn't sincere about it.
"Yesterday I told you I wanted to be friends with you and then today I messed it up and made it look as if I wanted you because of my sexual urges. I just wanted to let you know what happened today happened for another reason and not because of anything."
Chris found himself speechless. He didn't know what to say. "So?" He asked.
"I really want to be your friend. To really get to know you and to show you it's not lust," she licked her bottom lips. Her eyes bored him as she patiently waited for his reply.
Chris sighed. He rubbed his eyes with his fingers as he comprehended everything she had just said to him.
"I'm confused you know," he finally said after what seemed like an hour of quietness.
"Confused as how? What's confusing you?" She asked him. Her eyes still staring at him. She felt comfortable speaking to him while boring his eyes.
"Your feelings for me obviously? Earlier today you seemed so comfortable with Liam and now you are saying what you said about your feelings for me are sincere? Do you mind explaining?" He asked. His brows raised up slightly.
"Liam is a friend. I obviously feel nothing for him. Trust me when I tell you it's nice speaking to him but then there is nothing. You might not believe this but when I first saw you..." He trailed off, not sure if she should tell him she thinks he is her angel from above.
The man God sent to her on Earth for. She shook her head making Chris wonder what she was about to say.
"When did you first see me? And so? You know Like, it would be nice if you clarify everything well so I know what it is you want because this back and forth thing won't work well for either of us."
"Let's start afresh. I know you are starting to get tired of this word so let's be friends. I promise I won't act stupid or saying hurtful words again. I would harass you anymore and definitely not touch you without your permission again." She said,
Chris kept quiet for a while contemplating. "What's your problem with Bella? I mean you do not like her and you make it known." He could help but ask what it was she had against Bella.
She literally called Bella name's not befitting of her. Ever since he's known Bella, she's been nothing but friendly to him. She helped him and showed him around when he needed help.
Lily walked towards her bed and sat down. She raked her hair with her fingers. She never liked Bella and it was for a reason she didn't know herself.
She had treated Bella harshly recently because of Chris. Chris has been so comfortable with Bella which she didn't like. Chris would speak to her and laugh with her while all she and Chris did was argue back and forth.
"You literally called her names and said she was seeking the attention of men, why would you say that Lily?" Chris asked.
"I..." She didn't want to tell him that she did all that because she was jealous. She wondered how he'd feel when she told him so she bothered not.
"I do not know." She lied.
"You say you are sorry, you want to be friends with me but the truth is, you don't know what you want. It's like we keep going forth and back everytime. You are not sure who I on the other side..." He trailed off. He licked and bit on his bottom lips.
"We can start afresh for real. We can start by being civil with one another and be friendly with one another. We do not need to rush this whole conversation of the past now because if I'm being honest I don't know what to say about it."
"Okay." Chris said firmly.
"We can start over again."
With that, he left her room, leaving Lily to fall down flat on her bed. Just then her phone beeped. She stretched her hands to get it and see who the message she received was from.
LIAM: I've just gotten home. I enjoyed today and I hope we will keep seeing one another every day. Goodnight and stay safe.
Lily smiled. It's been a while since someone told her this. She saw Liam's and her friendship going a long way.
LILY: Goodnight and thanks for today. I enjoyed myself and realised I was missing out on a lot of things.
For the first time after a long time, Lily decided to have breakfast with her dad. He was surprised when he met her at the dining table, seated and all prepared.
"I must say this is a good thing and today is going to be a good day coming here to see you all prepared and looking good. What's going on princess?" Her dad asked.
"Good morning Dad. You look handsome and hot as always," She greeted with a cheeky smile on her face.
She chuckled, "I must say other than your mom, you are the only female in my life that hypes me so much."
She smiled, "Aww, I'm so thrilled dad. You look dashing for real."
"Thanks my Princess. You are up early and too dressed. Want to share any news with me?" He raised his brows in a questioning manner at her.
She pouted, "I felt like eating breakfast with you. I'm hurt dad," she batted her eyes, giving her dad the puppy dog eyes.
"You know I do not mean to hurt your feelings, my princess. I'm just surprised."
"Anyways I'm glad you are here. Want to speak to you co concerning your education and your future plans."
"Okay I'm more than prepared and one more thing dad, I do not want to enrol for online class anymore. I want to go to college like every other human. Want to attend classes and also live a little," She said.
"I must say there is something different about you." Her dad was really shocked hearing her speak this way. After graduating from high school, Lily told her dad she wanted a break from school and he gave her a break because she was his previous daughter.
She had always done well in her academics and made him proud. As long as she wasn't going to drop out of school, he decided to let her have enough time until she was ready to go further.
"Well..." She dragged.
"I realised that it's time. I took time for myself and now I realize the importance of it and what I should do. At first I as white confused and unsure of the course I should take but now I would love to study business. I would love to take after you and be that good daughter I've always been."
Her father smiled. She had always made him proud and by what she just said, she made him even more proud. She made him feel his decision of letting him give her space was very much needed.
"So what are your plans?" he asked.
"I will wait for the entrance exam then I will take it. For now, I will take free classes online to help myself be updated. I will also try to get more knowledge about your business so that while I school, I can also assist in the office."
He smiled to the extent he began to feel ache in his cheek. "Lily, thanks so much. You don't know how much you've made me proud. I love you so much," he said to her.
She leaned into his arms and he kissed her on her cheek and forehead, "You are blessed."
"Thanks Daddy."
Lily was more proud of herself. She had never thought of doing something to help develop herself. She felt she had enough knowledge and didn't need more of it since she did well academically but speaking to Liam yesterday made her understand that there is more to it. He made her realise that it wasn't all about the inheritance but more about building yourself and proving you are worth it all.
