I didn’t know exactly what he was up to, but I could protect River just fine. If Kai would do something that would upset her, I was not going to wait until she walked out.

I texted Krys on our way. She replied with the details. River had no problem paying the bills because she had my card, but I was not sure if she would use it.

“Since when did you become secretive?”

“Glad you could join us, Mr. Selik.” It was my woman, shaking hands with my brother.

“Just Kai, please. And I’d love to call you River if you wouldn’t mind.”

“The last time I checked, that was my first name. You even asked me the first time we met if where my name came from. But I doubt if you still remember that moment when you threatened me. Where was that? Oh, in the cafeteria.”
