Chapter 35 Five: Meeting with Mr Moore
Adam
“Adam, I just got word from Fields that there is a possible lead. I will have to fly out to Washington tonight so I could meet with him.” Finally, after a month of hearing nothing, there is a chance that this lead will actually be the answer that we have been looking for.
“Okay, just keep me updated and let me know what happens and James has a safe trip.” Ending the call, I place the phone on the table as I sat back and closed my eyes. For the past month, James and I had been working like madmen to try and find out new clues, whilst keeping an eye on Emily, who seems out of it at times. I find her spending time in my mother’s library reading mystery books and I can’t help but feel she is up to something. I have asked the staff to watch her discreetly because I have a gut feeling that something bad is going to happen and soon.
Sighing, I made my way downstairs and into the kitchen to make myself a cup of coffee, before the meeting with Chase Moore. The meeting had to be postponed as I had gone out of town with James and had completely forgotten. Thankfully Mr. Chase was an understanding man and was not the least bit upset about me missing the meeting. Pouring myself a cup, I sipped on it until it was finished before I made my way to the conference room where I sat and waited.
Ten minutes later he walked in. Getting up, I shook his hand as I greeted him. “Hello Mr. Moore, I am so glad we could meet today please have a seat.” Sitting down, we got down to business. “So, I reached out to you in regards to us creating a company together that is completely different from our own but still will require the resources from our company when needed.”
“Yes, when you had reached out to me, I was a bit surprised. I know that your good at what you do but I was a bit unsure as to why you choose me. Not saying that this opportunity is not great as it will create jobs for many persons.”
“I chose you because I know that you were planning to open up a publishing company.”
Looking at me in surprise, he replied. “This was a hush-hush situation, so how could you possibly know that–––” he paused midsentence when it dawned on him how I heard.
“You really need to sort out that little problem of yours before it gets really out of hand.” Smiling, he shook his head and got back to the issue at hand.
“So, you’re saying you would want to go into the publishing business with me? But why? I have my reasons but why would you want to go into that type of business.”
“Well let’s say it has more to do with the fact of remembering someone and to see their dream come alive. Studying me for a moment, he finally got up and shook my hand.
“I look forward to being in business with you. We can meet again to discuss how we are going to move forward.” Smiling, we exited the room and got in my private elevator where I escorted him to the lobby. Going back to my office, I check my email to see if there is anything I have to go over. Seeing that Emily had sent me some a few moments ago, I replied to her what to say to each one.
Hearing a knock on the door before turning the knob she entered my office. “I just saw the email, I didn’t think you had come out of your meeting as yet.”
“It was a very short meeting, he agreed that he would love me to help him take on this project. We will schedule another one to find out how to move forward so I want you to check when I am free next month and set a date. If it’s that I am not, shuffle some things around so that the meeting can take place. Let me know if there are any changes.” Nodding her head, she opened her mouth to say something but closed it back. She had this look on her face like she was up to something.
When Emily was at the home, I had the staff watch her and let me know her entire move but not that she is back at work, I tried to keep a close eye on her but it was a big company and if I keep watching her she would become suspicious.
“Why that look on your face Emily?”
“What look?” she asked innocently.
“The look like you are up to mischief.” Chuckling, she exited the room and closed the door behind her. Sighing I ran a hand through my hair before I looked over some files that she had sent over this morning.
Looking at the clock, I saw it was seven pm. For the last five hours, I have been in and out of meetings, communicating with Emily from time to time whilst trying to get through to James who was wasn’t answering his phone and signing cheques and going through files. Rummaging through the mess that was on my desk, I was looking for two files. Realizing that I had left it inside my car, I called Emily to come over.
“I need you to go downstairs inside my car and take out the two files that are on the back seat and bring them to me.”
“Okay no problem,” she replied before walking away. Ten minutes had passed and I saw that she hadn’t returned. Getting worried, I hurriedly made my way down to the parking lot. Seeing her nowhere in sight, I called her phone and she picked up.
“Emily, where are you?”
“I’m at the––” hearing a scream followed by a noise, the line went dead. Panicking, I called the cops. Without waiting for them to ask what’s my emergency I told them that my assistant was missing.
