Chapter 37 Seven: Bait
Adam
“Adam, I found out who has been stalking Emily,” James shouted as he came barrelling through the front door. Stopping short when he saw the detective in the living room.
“Calm down James, sit down and let me know what happened.” Well, Fields and I went to the Bahamas, as there was where our search led us. We went to a house that was a bit secluded. When we went and knock an old elderly couple answered the door. We were a bit confused as that’s where we traced where some of the text has been sent from otherwise from in New York and Paris. We sat down with the couple and we asked them random questions like if they had any children and where they were. They told us they had a son and his name was Tim and that he now resides in New York.”
“As soon as they said that name, I automatically picked up on who he was as you had mentioned him before when we were speaking one time. They went on to ask if he was in trouble and when we told them what he had done, they were not the least surprised. They said that he had done it before but had gotten off easily because of this big-shot lawyer that had handled the case. They went on to speak about his mental health and it turns out he is the perfect psychopath. He’s one of them who when they fall in love, they fall hard and they tend to not move on until they have the person they want. It’s like he enjoys the chase, that’s why he was stalking Emily. Now, where is she? She needs to know.”
Seeing the look that I had on my face when he asked where she was, he immediately figured out something was wrong. “Where is she, Adam?” He barked.
“I don’t know. I asked her to go down to the garage to bring me two files I left in the car. Ten minutes had passed and I realized she wasn’t back so I called her. While talking on the phone, I heard she let out a scream before the line went dead and this is why Detective Fields is here. He had worked on a similar case with another couple by the name of Kyle and Nyla. He had called them over so they could speak with me. They are on their way now. In the meantime, I am trying to track Emily’s phone to find out where she is but I guess he knows that I know it’s him hence why he is not answering. I just need him on the phone for just thirty seconds so I can zero in on her location.”
Nodding his head, he took out his phone and began typing on it furiously before he walked away. Picking up my phone, I called Melissa to inform her of the situation. “Melissa, Emily has been kidnapped, I will inform you as time goes by and when we find her. Please keep this information to yourself and don’t inform her mother, it will break her heart.”
“What?” her mom screamed in her ear, she began panicking before she started sobbing. Slapping my hand against my forehead, I realized how much of a fool I was.
“Hello?” Melissa’s voice came over the phone. Repeating what I just said, she listened intently before she started screaming. Yelling her name in the receiver, she didn’t respond and then the line went dead. Holding my head in my hands, tragedy just kept striking over and over tonight. Grabbing my coat, I informed detective K that I will be back before I opened the door to leave but I was met with a couple who was about to knock on the door.
“You must be Adam can we come in?” The lady who I assumed was Nyla asked. Nodding my head, I stepped aside and allow them to enter. Seeing that I wouldn’t be able to leave again, I inform the detective about the situation. Calling the station, he told two officers to go over to the apartment to see what happened and to keep him informed as he couldn’t leave at the moment. Inviting them to sit down, Kyle began to speak. “Detective Ken told me that you have a similar case like mine, where a person has been stalking your girlfriend. Truth be told, it’s not really the same in a sense that we are not in the same boat, but we are definitely in the same ocean. If this person is anything like my sister, I would advise that you find your girlfriend quick and fast. Is there anyone working with this person?”
“Yes, Amelia. She has been helping him. I just called back the number and her voice came over the phone, saying that she is doing this to be with you.” Sighing, I didn’t know what else to expect as there is just one surprise after another.
“Who is Amelia?” Nyla spoke up.
“Amelia is my former lover and ex-maid,” I answered embarrassingly.
Kyle started chuckling and Nyla shot him a look that caused him to shut up instantly. Amused by this, my mind immediately when back to Emily as she would have done something similar in this situation. “I’m sorry about my husband,” she apologized for him.
“It’s okay, I would have done the same thing.” Gracing me with a smile she continued to speak. “That is how you would get Emily back, appeal to Amelia. Give in to her demands.”
“What do you mean?” I asked confused.
“When Kyle found out that his sister was in love with him, and she was about to kill herself, he had to talk her out of it by telling him he loved her too. You’re going to use the love that Amelia has to get Emily back. When you arrive there, try not to upset her, as she might do something to hurt her. Just tell her everything she needs to hear while you guys come up with something to free her.”
“Thank you so much for this information and I am sorry about what happened.”
“That’s okay, we didn’t mind helping,” Kyle spoke up.
“If there’s any way I can help you, let me know.”
“Actually, you can, I need the services of your business. I know you can’t speak now but I will call your office, to speak to you after everything blows over.” Shaking his hand, I escorted them to the door before bidding them goodbye.
“James was the phone call enough to lock in on their location?” Nodding his head, he wrote down the address and we all left. James me driving alone and James with K.
We arrived at an Abandon house, that was very shabby looking. Picking up the phone, I dialed Amelia’s number.
“I want to see you,” I spoke as soon as she answered without giving her time to greet me or say some bullshit.
“I’m kind of in the––”
“I’m outside can I come in?”
“Outside where?” she asked her voice dropping to an octave.
“Outside the building, stop ask stupid questions.”
“How did you find me?”
Trying not to get upset, I answered calmly. “That’s not important. Just open the door, I want to come in. Getting out of the car, I walked about halfway when I saw that she had opened the door and was looking around, possibly to see if I had brought anyone with me.
“It’s just me,” I assured her. Entering, I stood in the middle of the room where I surveyed my surroundings.
“Where is she?”
“Why would you like to know?” her voice rising slowly.
Grabbing her hand, I drew her closer to me as I began to stroke her cheek. “Look James told me what you said and if I had known that you felt that way about me, I wouldn’t have tossed you aside like that. I’m sorry,” my words came out soothingly.
“So why do you want to see her then?” she questioned, her voice was now calm.
“I just wanted to see her, to let her go. I want to let her know that I am going to move and be with you.” Studying me for a moment, she was trying to see if I was lying but I had my best poker face on.
“Okay fine.” Leading me down a rickety staircase, I made sure to leave the door open. As I reached the bottom I saw that Emily was strapped to a chair. Walking as closely as I can, I discretely handed her my pocket knife. I continued to walk to face her when I almost tripped over a body. Looking down, I saw a guy who I assumed was Tim was knocked unconscious and the side of his head was bleeding.
Stepping over him, I went to stand in front of Emily with Amelia by my side.
“Adam has some news he wants to share,” she beamed. I wanted to roll my eyes but decided against it as she still had the gun in her hand.
“How about you tell her,” I try to sound excited but was failing miserably, thankfully she didn’t notice.
“Adam and I are going to be together as he doesn’t longer need you and seeing that this is so, I am happy to let you disappear.” Pointing the gun at her she cocks back the chamber.
“Amelia, you can’t kill her.” I pleaded. “It’s too risky.” Laughing, she lowered the gun.
“I knew it, I just knew that you were playing me but yet still a part of me thought that you weren’t. I was seeing if you would have jumped to her defense and seeing that you did, I am really going to kill her.” Turning back towards Emily, she pointed the gun back at her and before her finger could touch the trigger. Emily jumped out of her seat and pushed her down. The gun flew out of her and stopped a few feet away. They were wrestling on the floor and I had to pull them apart and subdue Amelia who was screaming and kicking at me.
James and Detective Fields came in a few seconds later along with two officers who came with them. One of the officers slapped handcuffs on Amelia. Looking down on the floor, I realized that Tim was nowhere to found and neither was the gun. Hearing a shot fire, I felt the bullet whiz past my head as I was pushed out of the way. Hearing two other shots, he was hit in the arm and the heart before he went down.
Going over to the body, Emily slapped him hard before she struck him once more. “We will have a coroner to come by to pick up the body,” Detective Fields spoke up. Pulling her away from him, we made our way to the top of the stairs and outside of the house.
“Who is he?” I asked Detective Fields when I saw another office with a man.
“He is Jake Smith, you girlfriend ex-boyfriend. He was knocked out by James when he saw him with the gun in his hand. He confessed to what he had done along with what the others did. Walking up to him, I honestly wanted to beat the living shit out of him.
“You can never have her,” I sneered in his face. “You lost that chance years ago when you tried to make a fool out of her.” Giving me an evil eye, I laughed in his face before I walked away.
“Emily I am sorry to inform you but Melissa says your mom is at the hospital. I will drive both you and Adam there,” I heard James speak up as he came off the phone. Hearing those words, I saw that she looked like she was about to faint. Ushering her in the car, I thank Detective Fields before James and I got in and he drove off.
