CHAPTER 40 – TALKING TO ROBERT
LARA’S POV
I opened the door and saw a young man standing by it. It was Landon, the young man that had brought a message to Diamond Cut on the day of Scarlet’s wedding.
“Hey, Landon” I greeted.
He had knocked and Scarlet had requested that I open the door and see who it was.
“Please I am here to see the Luna, I have a message for her” he replied.
“Do come in” I said and gave way for him to enter.
“Greeting, my luna” he bowed as he got to her front.
“Yes, Landon” she replied.
“I have a message from the alpha” he announced.
“Okay, Landon, what is the message?” she asked.
“The alpha said that you should get ready for tonight. He wants to give you a surprise treat in town. And he said he would like to see you in a red velvet dress” he informed her.
She inhaled. “Okay, Landon, you can leave now,” she said.
He bowed again and walked out.
“Do I have the specification, Lara? I would need something great tonight” she asked me.
“Yes, luna, you have a lot of red dresses and I am sure that you would find one that would be just perfect for tonight” I replied.
“Okay. Get Kendra for tonight, I will need you two to go over my dresses and also get Mia too she must be on time for my makeup. Now we have to see Robert first” she instructed.
“Okay, my luna” I responded.
She was excited. I love the way the alpha made her feel and I love the way her life was going. But then, there was still one thing, a nightmare that we hope should never manifest.
I know Scarlet would like to act like that part of her does not exist, she would prefer to believe that it was long gone and cast into the ocean, but I fear that it might resurface someday to hunt her, to hunt us.
“Is it going to be tonight?” I asked her.
She turned to me and like magic, the smile on her face disappeared. I know this reality tormented her soul and I am sorry we could not wish it away as we both desired.
“That would never be possible. Lara” she mumbled.
“But…” I tried to talk but she stopped me.
“Stop it, Lara, I know what you want to say. See, Jake is not like every other man that you see out there. He is not one that would hug you and whisper into your ear that everything will be fine after hearing your sad tale. He has an ego, Lara and it is better he doesn’t know about me” she said.
“It can’t be hidden forever” I replied.
“I don’t know how much he knows, but I would like to presume that he knows all about me that he should know,” she said.
She stood up and walked to my front and continued. “He found me and decided that I am what he wants so I would not go about opening dead wounds to prove whatever useless point”
“And if he later…” I tried to speak but she was hearing none of it.
“This is okay, Lara. He will never find out. I am gone from Diamond Cut and my chapter there is closed” she yelled.
I got her point, and I wished that it was that simple. However, I would have to align my faith with hers, and hopefully, the events of her past and who she truly is never resurfaced.

We walked into beta Robert’s chamber and met him going through some documents. He had not seen us enter and so he continued with what he was doing until Scarlet coughed to get his attention.
“Good day, my Luna” he greeted. “I did not know that you are here. I am sorry to have kept you waiting please it wasn’t intentional”
“I am just arriving, Robert and maybe I should leave and return when you are less busy” Scarlet offered.
“No, no no. That would not be considered. Whatever I am doing can wait until I return” he objected.
“Are you sure about that Robert? Okay, I would wait until when you are through” Scarlet said.
“My luna, I can never be too busy to you. See I will leave all these and attend to you, they can wait” he insisted.
“You know I have a different view on that, Robert” Scarlet said.
“You do? Why would you think so?” he asked.
By this time he was already feeling nervous and he fear that he must have done something wrong to make the luna say such to him.
“Yes, Robert. You have been so busy that I barely see you around” she said.
“Please don’t see it that way my luna. It has not been intentional that I promise you” he said.
I noticed that he tried to avoid her eyes as he spoke and I wonder why this is so.
He was the very first person that made us feel at home here even when the alpha seem so inaccessible. But now, he is a completely different person and acted as if he was never close to us.
“I would have loved to believe that, Robert” she replied.
“See, I am just getting work done over here. And I figured that you already have everything in control in the Pack-house. You don’t need me, luna. Not anymore and I am always here whenever you need me” he stuttered.
“Don’t say that, Robert. I need you and will always do. You are my friend here remember and I never forget an old friend” she said.
“I am sorry if that is how it appears, luna” he replied.
“So what would I do to see you often?” she asked.
“My luna is very wise. The alpha should be the one that would say who should be very close to his luna and who should not” he chuckled.
Scarlet chuckled too. “I remember. You always come bearing news of what the alpha expects and what he does not. You know I use to love it that way” she said.
“Yes, my luna. And I will always come to you whenever I have a message from the alpha” he giggled.
“Thanks so much, Robert” she greeted.
“Anything for you my luna” he responded.
BETA ROBERT’S POV
“My luna is very wise. The alpha should be the one that would say who should be very close to his luna and who should not” I said.
I had said that jokingly to her but I hope she would understand my message to her. She is smart and should be able to understand what I meant.
I am acting under the direction of the alpha and I don’t know how he is going to react if he should come to find out that I had entertained the luna in my chambers.
Following the wish of his mistress, Violet, the alpha had orders that I was not to attend to his luna ever again, and now, there is no way that I am going to reveal that to her.
“I remember. You always come bearing news of what the alpha expects and what he does not. You know I use to love it that way” she laughed about it too.
“Yes, my luna. And I will always come to you whenever I have a message from the alpha” I giggled.
I remember when she had arrived at the packhouse and how hard she had tried to blend in, fighting to take over her rightful place. And I must admit that she did a great job over here, especially with the alpha. Who would have believed that the alpha would cling to his luna and abide by her will? Now everything in the Pack is going just as it should and I know that alpha Jake might want to rebut it, but he has found love with his luna.
“Thanks so much, Robert” she greeted.
“Anything for you my luna” I responded.
“And one other thing, Robert” she said.
“And what is that?” I asked.
“About Dark Age Pack. I would like to know the situation of things with them. The military uprising seems to be getting out of hand” she began.
We talked about the situation with the Dark Age Pack and I explained to her about how it all started. I love her understanding on political and military issue. I have seen her give advice to the alpha on some issues and even though she doesn’t look like she would know much on these issues, she is smart, smarter than girls of her age.
Most time, I long to take my difficulties on the Pack’s issues to her but fearing the reaction from the alpha, I have been forced to make do with what I have. So if the alpha should accept her request then I would be able to go to her for advice from now on.
When we were done with the discussion, she said. “I will leave now, Robert, and I hope to see more of you from now on,”
“Very well my luna, I am always at your service” I replied.
She opened the door and left with Lara.
I exhaled. I hope this does not get worse than it already is. Now I am caught in the web of either obeying the command of the alpha or granting the desire of the luna. As it is now, if the luna should find out about what led to my withdrawal, I know the alpha would be in great trouble.
