Forty Three
Alina's hands trembled as she read the paper on the ground. She took them, tore them into pieces, and screamed at the top of her lungs. The truth was already out. They had already known; each one of them was now aware of her evilness. What was she expecting all this time? The truth was bound to come to light one day, Alina. Just accept it." Her wolf told her.
"No way. The truth was bound to come to light, but not this way. It was bound to come out after I succeeded with my plans." She cried, slumping on the ground. She pulled her knees to her chest and cried her heart out. She didn't know for how long she had been there, hiccuping and turning numb due to the cold and pain, but she was woken up later by someone calling out her name.
"Killan." She stood but felt dejected when she saw the person wasn't Killan but a guard. He had brought her a plate of food. She wasn't even hungry at all; all she wanted at that point was Kilan's forgiveness and for him to take her out of there. She had no idea if she could survive in there or not.
"Where is Killan?" She asked the guard, who laughed instead of responding to her.
"Alpha Killan? Even in this moment, you are still thinking of him. Well, I don't know Alina, but he might be somewhere out there having fun, you know." The guard winked and then turned to walk away.
"Wait," she called him back, "can you please ask him if he'll forgive me if I'll admit all my mistakes? Please ask him to recall the best times we shared." She cried, falling back on her knees. The guard just smirked at her, walked out of there, and never told Killan what Alina had said.
Killan, who was upstairs having breakfast with his sister, saw the guard coming downstairs with a mischevious smirk on his face. He wiped his hands with a napkin and walked to him. "Did you give her food?" The guard was asked the question after he sat back in his chair.
Yes, Alpha Killan, I did give her some, but she refused to eat. She said that it's only you she wants, and if you weren't to go to her, then she'd have no choice but to commit suicide and leave a note saying you are the cause. The guard smirked.
"Me?" He asked with knitted brows," Not again!" He spat and then went back to his food. That guard had been holding grudges against Alina for a long time now. He had always wanted to avenge her, but he couldn't. Kilan was madly in love with Alina. He would always do anything for her, and he was always by her side. When he thought he would never get the chance to avenge himself, the gods opened the way.
Alina had killed his only family two years ago after he refused to participate in her evil plans, and he had made up his mind. He wouldn't touch even a strand of her hair, but Kilan would avenge his loss. He had planned to feed him lies about her until he wouldn't be able to take them anymore, and that way, he would end up losing his patience and torturing her to death.
Kamilina, who was watching her brother slowly with the intention of knowing what was eating him up because since the guard stepped out he had been speaking alone and fuming with anger, failed to find out and decided to ignore that. While about to go back on her food, she recalled something, and with a broad smile covering her face, she asked him, "Brother, it had been ten days since I came here. How come Grandpa never came to say hi to us? Should we pay him a visit?"
Kilan looked at her for a while, and after what he did resurfaced in his memories, he continued digging on his food, pretending that he hadn't heard what Kamilina had just asked him. Kamilina titled her head, looking at her brother, and when she saw that all his attention was on the plate of food in front of him, she kicked him under the table, causing him to raise his head and look at her with confusion.
"What, little one?" He sighed, drawing attention to each word coming out of his lips.
"Grandpa? I said I want to see Grandpa," she said, pressing her lips together, evident enough that she was pissed. Like her brother, Kamilina never liked repeating herself, something Kilan had just made her do.
"Uh," Kilan scratched himself at a place that never hurt, and after a while he tried to make her forget about that, "little one, I really don't think this is a good time to ask about grandpa. How about.."
"I don't want!" Kamilian interrupted him. "I know you are busy, brother, and that's why I want to go with Kia," she pouted.
"Grandpa is no more, little one." Killan spoke in a voice barely above a whisper. He knew how much Kamilina loved their grandpa, probably more than him. Whenever their parents would go for business meetings, Kamilina would pack her bags the same day and go to live with him. Whenever their grandpa would hear that Kamilina was at the pack, he would always be the first one to arrive with her favorite sweets, and she would be thrilled beyond normal. This was the first time in her life that she had stayed for more than a week at the palace, and her grandpa never came to see her.
"What did you say, brother?" Kamilina asked harshly, causing Kilan's heart to thump wildly. "You are an alpha; if you can't voice out your words, who will? Don't tell me you let that bitch Alina get into your head, and she's now in your throat." She spat and then curled her lips in disgust.
Listen, brother," probably you forgot to tell grandpa that I am here, so we will do this; we are going to surprise her," she giggled while clapping her hands in excitement.
"Little one, I.." Kilan sighed, wondering where he was going to start. Kian, who had seen the trouble he was having telling his sister the truth, patted his shoulder and then whispered to him, "I will handle this; trust me."
"Lina, come with me, honey." Kian pulled her from there.
"Do you think the surprise party is a good idea?" She giggled.
"It is, but why don't we have some together time, just you and me instead?" Kian held her chin and rubbed her cheeks calmly.
"Really? But what will you tell brother Kilan because he really likes interrupting our moments?"
"Don't worry about that; I'll handle him. Now chop, chop! Go and get ready," he asked her. After Kamilina had disappeared towards her room, Kian dusted his hands and walked back to the house, where he found Alpha Killan still sitting on the dining table and pinching the bridge of his nose.
"How did it go? Is she mad at me? Wait, what did she say?" He asked while walking towards the smirking Kian.
"Calm down, buddy. I told you I got this, didn't I?" He asked him. "There won't be any surprise parties, but we are going on a date. Only I and her." He raised his hands, insinuating that it was only Kamilina and him going on the date because Kilan had already risen from his chair and was wearing a celebrating smirk on his face.
"What? I thought I made it clear that you two are not supposed to go anywhere alone."
"That is the only way I can distract her, Kilan. Unless you want me to tell her the truth, and you know how this will end, I really don't need to explain it to you." General Kian chuckled, crossed his hands under his chest, and raised his head to look at the standing Kilan, who had his icy eyes pierced into him.
"You are blackmailing me, huh?" Killan asked while pacing around the room. "I should have known that. Anyway, don't tell her anything until I figure out how I can break this to her." He patted his back and turned to walk out of there.
"So, does that mean that I can take her out?" Kian asked, not believing her ears. He was aware of how stingy Kilan was toward his sister, and now that she was still underage, it made all the chances of him taking her out impossible. If Kilan was letting him take her out, then he would be really hitting the jackpot.
"Do you want me to change my mind? On the count of one..."
"Uh, no, no, no, wait. I'll be going." General Kian practically jumped out of his seat and ran towards the door. While he was about to close the door behind him, Killan called him back. General Kian said a shot prayer and then turned to face the expressionless Kilan, who now had both hands shoved deep into his trouser pockets. "Lemme guess, you have changed your mind, have you?" he asked.
Kilan gave him a serious gaze, and then after a short while, when he was sure he had completely broken him, he burst out into laughter. General Kian, who had already dragged himself back to the dining table, raised his head to look at him, and when he saw the mischievous glint in Kilan's eyes, he blocked both his ears using his plams, not wanting to hear his mockery laughter. Kian removed his hands, wanting to hear if Killan was still laughing, but his words made him jump once again.
"Just take care of her, because if she tells me that you hurt her, then you will forever forget if she ever existed." I will make sure that I ruin the mate bond between you two." He said that, and the serious gaze he gave him made him realize that Killan was not joking but was serious about what he had just said.
"I promise I won't hurt her." With that, he thanked him one last time and stormed out of there before Kilan changed his mind. Alpha Killan was left standing beside the window, watching as Kia ran towards his sister and as they both walked out hand in hand. Kamilina looked stunning in her floral blue dress, matched with blue heels and a blue purse. She had a broad smile on her face, probably one he had never succeeded in putting there. It's not like he never made her smile; he did, but that smile was filled with love. Everyone could see it. The way Kian pulled her closer to him by her waist, kissed her forehead, and then opened the car door for her made him feel jealous. He once had that genuine love, but then...
"Alina!" He growled, bailing his fists in anger. Breaking his knuckles, he strode out of the dining area and headed towards the dungeons. He opened the gate furiously, ignoring the calls of the other wrongdoers who were begging for forgiveness and were asking him to forgive them. Walking through the corridor that was to lead him to where Alina was, he reached his destination and thumped on the door to wake the sleeping Alina.
Alina awoke only to see the face of the man she had been dreaming about standing in front of her. She wanted to run to him, but the cold look in his eyes made her stop. What was he thinking? Why was he there? Will she be banished? Is he going to torture her? Those were among the million questions that kept flooding into her head. Clearing her throat, she moved backwards until she hit the wall, and with a trembling voice, she asked him. "Is there anything I can help you with?"
"Why?" He asked instead, his eyes glowing red with fury.
"Why?" She asked, and after getting what he meant, she responded, Because you are here, I thought that maybe you need...
"I asked why? Don't pretend that you are not aware of what I am talking about, or should I remind you?" He asked. Before Alina could respond, Kilan walked in, grabbed her by her throat, and raised her up, making her float in the air. Why, Alina, why?" He asked again, tears clouding his eyes. "I went against everyone because of you. My hands are soaked with innocent blood because of you. I loved you, Alina, probably more than I loved myself, so why did you do this to me? Why didn't you tell me from the start that you didn't love me? I mean, I could have spent so much on you even without you asking. Did you have to kill me, really?" He asked, the tears he had been holding for a long time finally finding their way out of his eyes.
"I am really sorry, Kilan. I didn't mean to hurt you." Alina choked on her words. Killan tightened his grip around her neck, and for a moment, she was sure that would be the way she would die. As if Killan were reading her thoughts, he dropped her on the ground, ignoring her yells that her back was hurting. Wiping his tears, he sniffed and chucked bitterly and then faced her again, saying, "You didn't mean to hurt me?" He asked her.
"Yes, yes, Kilan. I swear, I didn't mean to hurt you. I was so blinded by jealousy. I didn't want Camila anywhere between us. I thought she'd one day take you away from me, just like in the past, so I..."
"Shut up, woman!" Kilan roared, causing Alina to tremble in fear. "I am asking you the reason why you wanted to kill me. Are you saying that you wanted to kill me because of Camila, someone who's probably dead by now?"
"I..I.." She stammered.
"I what, why Alina, why?" He asked while gripping her neck again. The guard who was standing beside them and who knew what would happen if they didn't intervene rushed inside Alina's cell and pulled Kilan off her. Because he was heavy compared to all of them, it took so much time to finally take his grip off Alina's neck, who had already passed out and had a deep wound on her throat.
"I want to kill her. Let me kill her!" He growled. Luckily, the guards had called the pack doctor beforehand, who sedated the furious Alpha Killan before they could lose their grip on him.
