Forty Six
"Mila, can we please forget about this? Please, I would rather talk about something else but not the girl in my dreams." Ash sighed while combing his tangled hair with his fingers.
"Why shouldn't we? I mean, for how long have you been having this dream? Since we were twelve, Ash, twelve," She chuckled while raising her fingers to show twelve, "and for all these years you have been telling me this one thing. That you would not talk about the girl, why? Is it someone I know, or you just don't want me to know about your dreams and stuff?" She scoffed and then got out of bed.
"It's not that way, Mila. I just don't think you are ready to hear the truth. I mean, you may even not believe me." He said this while following her to the bathroom. Camila took her toothbrush, applied some toothpaste to it, and did the same to Ash. After handing over his toothbrush to him, she turned to face the tap, turned the faucet on, and washed her face. After she was done, she brushed her teeth, wrinkled her mouth, and turned to walk out of there, but Ash stopped her. He pushed her against the sink, held it on both sides with his hands, and caged her in his middle.
"Since you really want to know who the girl is, I'll tell you," he said nervously. He stared deep into her eyes to see if she was having a change of mind. Camila had always been like that. Whenever she asked him about something and he hesitated to respond, she would lose interest and stop nagging him. That was what she had been doing since he first had that dream. Please, Mila, just say that you don't want to listen anymore." He prayed silently.
"If you have decided to tell me, what are you waiting for? Tell me already," she snapped with both hands akimbo.
"Are you sure, Mila? What if you get angry with me?" he asked seriously.
"And why would I get angry? For goodness sake, Ash, you haven't even told me yet. Well, I am sure it's not my mother, or is it?" She twirled around, her hair hitting Ash's face and causing him to tremble when her scent reached his nostrils. She knitted his brows together, watching him through the mirror while eagerly waiting for his response.
Ash got much closer to her, turned her around so that she could face him, and leaned in, making their noses brush against each other. When Camila dropped her gaze, he held her chin with his index finger and jerked her head backward. Camila, who was caught off guard, gasped and tripped closer to him, finally getting rid of the inch gap that was left between them. He stared deep into her eyes to see any resistance, and when she remained still, he snaked his hands around her waist and pulled her much closer to him.
He took a deep breath and buried his face in the crook of her neck. After a while, he raised his head and whined against her ears, "It's you, Mila; it's you who have been giving me sleepless nights. It's you who have been in my dreams. Do you know how difficult it has always been for me to face you every day, especially after hearing your intoxicating moans in my dreams, feeling you tighten around me, and watching as you scream my name again and again? It has been nothing but torture, Mila; it has always been." He whisphered.
Camila remained silent and didn't say a thing for what seemed like forever. Ash's heart thumped wildly as he kept on wishing that she wouldn't be mad at him. He buried his face back into the crook of her neck, inhaling her scent greedily. Whatever he had just said and Camila's silence were making him feel restless, but thanks to her scent, he was able to calm himself the moment his heart threatened to break his ribs apart and come out. He felt Camila rubbing his back smoothly, as if she were aware of his nervousness.
He heard her sniffing him like she always does, and he knew what that meant. She did that anytime she was mad or sad. She always inhaled his scent to calm herself, given that she was short-tempered. He had angered her with his stupid confusion. He opened his mouth, ready to lie and say that he was kidding, but she beat him into it.
Ash, I advise you to work better on your jokes." She giggled and pushed him away lightly. Shaking her head, she pecked him on the cheek and turned to walk out of there. At the door, she stood and reminded him to brush his teeth and not to take long in the bathroom since she was going to make breakfast for both of them. She also made it clear to him that she wasn't forcing him to tell her who he had been dreaming about. "Just tell me when you are ready, Ash, okay?" She smiled sweetly at him and walked away.
"But that was the truth, Camila. Whatever I just said is the truth. When will you believe me?" He thought inwardly while brushing his teeth.
After breakfast, Ash prepared himself to go back home. Camila had advised that he should go to his father's house without notifying anyone because, as her Lycan had observed the truck driver that had knocked him down that day, it seemed like he was sent and it wasn't an accident like it seemed to be. Before the Lycan could run after him, she had seen the truck driver checking Ash's pulse, and after he was sure that he wouldn't survive, he ran away from that place after making a suspicious phone call.
"Who do you think was after you, Ash?" She asked him after she was done cleaning the utensils.
Larisa, though I am not sure yet. She is the only person who would have done this." He sighed after thinking for a while.
"But why? You married her like she wanted to. I mean, who would want to kill their spouse?" Camila chuckled.
"Her and your finance, who else?" He winked at her. Playfully, Camila slapped him on the back, and they ended up having their pillow games again.
"I'll escort you home, Ash." She said this while stopping to catch a breath.
"Are you sure? You are wanted, remember?" He reminded her, just in case she had forgotten.
After remaining silent for a while, Camila responded, "I have been thinking about what you told me. This baby needs the doctor's care, and there is no way I can take care of him all by myself. At home, your father will help me get a doctor who will come and stay with us here."
"So, how will we be going? There is a road block on each road, and I and you passing through unnoticed will be difficult." Ash reminded her.
"No problem about that. We will leave here at midnight, and we'll go back in our wolf forms." She smiled at him.
"Yeah, good idea; I wonder why I didn't think of that. So, what will we be doing until then?" He asked her. They had nothing to do because they had already done the laundry, washed the utensils, cleaned the house, and trimmed the yard in front of the cave. They had been switching from one channel to another and watching all their favorite movies, and they were left with nothing to do. They had tried to sleep but bore no fruit. It would have been better if any of them had a phone, because then they would have swiped from one social media platform to another and entertained themselves.
"We should swim," Camila suggested.
"Yeah, I think that's a good idea, but we can't. It's cold outside, and we can't protect the baby." Ash refused.
"What a party pooper!" Camila mumbled, Then what do we do? I am bored staying here. I want to get out of here and hang out." She pouted while slumping back on the sofa.
"Why don't we talk about you in order to push time?" Ash her.
"Me? I told you everything you needed to know. Right from the accusations to the whips to the banishing of my destroyed self. I have nothing else to tell you." She whined.
"Yes Camila. I agree that you have told me everything about you, but what about your vengeance? It was not only your father who bullied you all your life, but your mate as well. Don't you think you should make them suffer a million times more than you did?" He suggested locking gazes with her so that she would know that he was serious and that he meant everything he was saying.
"Mila, my dear, you are a Lycan. The species that is giving even the strongest Alpha's sleepless nights, and don't forget what your ancestors prophesied. They are expecting a lot for the first Lycan to be brought back to the world. You will not only avenge yourself, but also them. Don't you know that? Or do you want to anger the gods?" He asked her.
"I have thought about that, Ash, but to conquer the world, I need my own pack as well, so that I can train guards and have warriors who will help me fight and avenge. I can't do everything on my own." She sighed.
"I have already thought about that, Camila. How many rogues are out there? Probably a million or so. Why don't you make them surrender to you? That way, we can build a pack with them, and with time, we will get to avenge ourselves with their help. Don't forget that most of the rogues suffered the same fate as you. They were banished from the pack under false accusations, so the idea of avenging will be taken well with them." He explained.
"How so? We need resources, Ash." She reminded him.
"Don't worry about that. I'll take care of it. Will you do it or not?" He asked.
"How can I say no to revenge, Ash? You know, that's what I have been thinking since the day I got banished. I had planned to save Beta Steven and Elder Peter from Killan's prison and ask them to help me avenge my sufferings, but after witnessing their deaths, I couldn't do anything any longer. In fact, I had decided that I wouldn't come back into my human form, but I'd remain as a beast forever." She said.
"So what changed? I mean, you are in your human self right now?" Ash could not help but ask.
"It's you who changed me, Ash. I had read in a book that a person's wolf can turn into an evil beast if it has been fed lies. Before my Lycan found you, we were very dangerous. Every single day, I blamed her for what had happened. I didn't miss any chance to remind her that it was her fault that Beta Steven's and Elder Peter's had died because she didn't take the leap on time when I asked her. For that, she turned evil. You don't know about this, or maybe you heard about it before you set out in search of me. But it was my Ash who burned down the two packs that had been distributing raw materials to all the packs in the world. That day, if it weren't for you to be lying on that road fighting for your life, trust me, not even a single werewolf would have remained in this world. We were going to burn every single pack and destroy everything in this world." She chuckled.
"Burn every pack? How would you have survived on your own in this world, then? And that way, alone?" He asked her.
"How would I have survived? Are you seriously asking me this question, Ash? I mean, my presence had never mattered to anyone before, apart from you. I learned how to be alone, yet I was always surrounded by hundreds of people at such a young age. I learned how to fight my own battles, even though I am blessed with a family. I would have survived alone, Ash. Believe me. In fact, I wouldn't have been alone; my Lycan would have been with me, and if by any chance we had come to get tired of this life, we would have committed suicide. It's not a big deal." She smiled bitterly.
"It's enough, Mila. I don't want to talk about this anymore." Ash stopped her. He got closer to her and pulled her closer to him. He rubbed her back smoothly while waiting for her to calm down. "I am glad you have agreed to my plan. I will leave you here to get some rest while I get out to see how many rogues I can gather because I think we should start making our own pack as soon as we can. We can't take any chance."
No, Ash, I am not letting you go out alone. Those rogues may end up ripping you into pieces. It's better you stay here, and I'll go see how many I can bring on our side." Camila refused.
"You won't go out alone. You are pregnant, Camila. I won't forgive myself if something happens to this baby. Besides, you can't know which rogues have a clear conscience and which are wicked. Don't forget that not all rogues out there were banished for the same reason as you; some got banished after trying to overthrow their alphas, and some are even traitors to their packs. You never know; when they come to learn that you are a Lycan, they may agree only to hurt you later." He explained.
"And how are you going to know that a certain rogue has a clear conscience?" She asked him.
"What do we do then? I have no idea how we will get to have them on our side, and we are running out of time." He sighed.
"I have an idea, Ash." She smiled.
"Which is? I hope it's not something that can keep the baby at risk." He was concerned.
"Trust me, it's not. Come with me." She pulled him out of the cave.
