Moving?-Magma
When I open my eyes I have to blink several times as my eyes adjust. I look around the room and realize that I am at the clinic. As I raise my head the weight across my midriff tightens. I look down and pause when I see it’s an arm. Without seeing his face I know who the arm belongs to. The air around me is filled with the spiced scent that could only belong to Igneous. I sigh in contentment at its smell.
I close my eyes and concentrate on the heat of him at my back. The hair on the side of my face slowly flows as his warm breath hits it. I can hear his quiet, rhythmic breathing and know that he must be asleep. I wonder how we ended up here and why he’s in the bed with me?
The images from the day before start to flow through my mind. I see how my body heated when he kissed me. I see how Maximus pinned me to the ground when I attacked him. I remember the feel of flying through the air. I remember being cold. I remember that cold casting me into darkness. Then there is nothing. I blink against the strain trying to remember. My eyes snap open and I search my mind for my dragon. I see no maze or no structure wall and yet she isn’t responding to my mental call.
Things suddenly seem to quiet to not have her speaking to me. “Hello” I whisper. I pause for a moment waiting for her to appear. After waiting a few moments she still doesn’t show, however. I start to get worried. For as long as I have lived she has always been there. I hope I haven’t done anything to harm her. I gently lift Igneous’ arm off of my waist. I scoot down beside him trying to slide off the bed near the end where the handles aren’t raised.
It’s a slow-going process because I freeze every time his breathing changes. I need to find doc and see if she knows why my dragon has disappeared.
When I finally make it to the end of the bed and my feet touch the floor, I rise to stand. I sway on my feet for a moment as my vision swirls. I try to shake the feeling away. I should probably have doc check my head while she’s looking for my dragon I think. I have never had this many dizzy spells and have no idea why they are starting now.
Standing near the edge of the bed I look at Igneous. He looks like he sleeps peacefully even though his bushy, black eyebrows are scrunched together.
His arm on the bed has started patting around as if he knows my presence is no longer near him. I tiptoe fast toward the exit so that he doesn’t catch me leaving. I make a right as I exit the room heading toward doc’s office. Then I have to turn around when I realize that this is not the room Igneous was previously in. I peek into the room as I pass and see that Igneous still lays on the bed. I sigh with relief that I haven’t awakened him and walk to doc’s office.
I knock quietly on the door hoping not to disturb her. When there is no answer I knock once more. I look at the clock on the wall in the hall and see that it is near lunch time. I turn away thinking that she is probably at the cafeteria. I decide to wait until she gets back to find her as I head back to the room that I left. When I enter Igneous sits up on the bed stretching as he looks toward the bathroom. At the sound of my footsteps he swings around and smiles as he sees me.
Shockingly he rushes forward and embraces me to his chest. Not knowing what granted the gesture I hug him back feeling warm in his touch. “I was so worried. How are you feeling?” he asks as he pulls back to look at me.
“I’m fine. Why do you ask?” I wonder meeting his gaze.
“Yesterday when they brought you in, you gave everyone quite the scare. Your temperature was too low, and you had symptoms of hypothermia” he ruses to say. I look at him dumbfounded. I don’t remember any of this. It must be why I have the missing time.
“What else happened?” I say gesturing to the bed so we can both take a seat as we talk.
“Well, they figured out that we are drawn to each other, but they don’t know why” he must see something gin my expression that conveys my confusion because he continues. He reiterates what they found about our temperatures and how we respond to the touches of another. He explains how they discovered it and how we ended up here in this room. When he finishes telling me about the whole ordeal from the hours I missed, I struggle to process.
I know about us being mates and that somehow we are supposed to end up together. However, none of this explains why my dragon is missing or what we are supposed to do now. “Did anyone happen to mention my dragon?” I ask needing to know.
“No there was no mention about her. Why?” he says curiously.
“She’s gone. Normally I can see her in my head and hear her voice. When I woke up I couldn’t find her or hear her. That’s never happened before, and it has me worried” I state sadly.
“What’s the last thing you remember” he questions.
“I took a flight and landed in the forest. My dragon was pushing me to come to you, but I Locked her away and refused. Then I got really cold. The cold made me weak, and she wanted me to let her out, but I didn’t have the strength. I gave her permission to overpower me, and she took to the sky. After that there’s nothing.” I murmur thinking to myself.
He scoots closer to me and throws an arm around my shoulders. “You’re crossing your arms as if you are cold.” He explains the gesture. “Maybe we can figure this out. Why was your dragon pushing you to come to me?” he ask
“She wanted to finish what she started. She wanted to continue to hurt you.” I say as I look away.
“Oh. Well she wasn’t exactly hurting me Magma. I actually think that Maximus over reacted. Has she ever taken over like that before?” he ask. I shook my head not recalling a time when she controlled my body like that without being in dragon form.
“Maybe that’s the way to bring her back. Perhaps if you kiss me again she will come out of hiding” he suggest.
I quickly rise from his embrace and turn to face him. “No, we can’t risk it.” I respond.
“We can. All we have to do is try. If you feel like it’s too much we can stop” he states. I hesitate at his convincing tone. “The worst that can happen is that she stays in hiding. I would imagine that you want her back right?” he suggest.
I nod my head as I think. It would only be to try. I need to get her back to see what happened or if she knows more about the situation she got us in.
I have no idea what else to do unless I ask doc. Igneous watches me as he sits on the bed letting me think it over. He twiddles his thumbs in his lap and swallows as I stare at him. “Is it something else? I would understand if you didn’t like kissing me yesterday” he says removing his gaze from me.
Although I really did like kissing him. I just don’t want to see that expression of fear on his face again. There are already so many who fear us in this world, and I would never want one of them to be my mate. “I did like kissing you. I do. I just don’t want to hurt you” I plead.
He rises from the bed and gathers my hands in his. His touch is comforting, and my shoulders release the tension I didn’t realize I was holding.
“You won’t hurt me Magma. I don’t know how I know that, but I do.” He brings my body closer as his hands let go off mine to grab my waist. My breast hit his robe covered chest and I tilt my head up to meet his burning green gaze. He leans down and places his lips on mine briefly. When he pulls back my breath wooshes at the contact. He checks to make sure that I am still with him before he kisses me again. This time he doesn’t let up. On a groan he takes my bottom lip between his as his tongue pushes against the seam of mine. I lift my hands to wrap them around his neck as I let his tongue twirl with mine.
I rise to my tiptoes to get closer to him and I feel some of my weight leave the floor as he lifts me. I moan when my body presses more fully against him. I suck his tongue into my mouth causing him to groan and my dragon burst into my head as I shove him away.
MATE! Yes, more. We need so much more!
“I am so glad you are back. What happened?” I say aloud breathing heavily.
I am fine. Let’s worry about our mate. He needs our attention now. Touch him.
“Would you get your mind out of the gutter for one moment and talk to me” I yell at her. I blush when I meet Igneous’ eyes knowing that he will have an idea of what she is talking about.
If I show you my memory of what happened after you left me, Can we continue to touch our mate?
Her tone is suddenly annoyed like a sullen child. I nod in reply and watch the images fly behind my eyes. I gasp aloud when I see us falling toward Xander and then the vision fades. “What is it?” he ask rising to come near me. He places his hand on my cheek and lifts my head to meet his gaze. I rub my cheek against his hand finding comfort in the gesture before I answer.
Mhmmmmm
“She showed me what happened yesterday on the journey home. We were both week and fell from the sky. Xander had to have caught us because we are uninjured. A fall from that height would have done some damage” I reiterate.
He pulls me closer as he presses his lips to my forehead. “Well, I’m glad that you are both okay” he mumbles in my hair.
He wants both of us. This is proof. We will have our mate.
“Erm, should I return later” Maximus says from the doorway. We move apart at his interruption but Igneous reaches to hold my hand needing my touch.
Soon he will need more than this. We both will.
“You always have the worst timing. I’m starting to think you do it on purpose” Igneous says goading him.
Maximus rolls his eyes even though they brighten. If I didn’t know better I would think that he likes my human. “Yeah, yeah. I’m an asshole I know. Let’s get going to your new digs already” he says leaning against the door frame. “Alpha says that because of your new symptoms he’s going to stay at your place. I’m just here to escort you” he states.
“He’s going to live with me” I almost shriek.
Yes, we must keep him close.
“It’s the only way we could think of to keep you both close. We can’t have a repeat of yesterday”
He states. “Now that you know the plan, what can I gather to make this easier?” he questions.
“Well I would need stuff to stock my fridge. Oh, he needs pants because he’s uncomfortable in the robes. We will also need more supplies just for around the house. Extra soap and toiletries like that” I say as we leave the room heading to my cabin.
The robe would be easier to remove once we get him alone.
As we walk I try to remember what condition I left it in. For the past few weeks I have been staying at the smokejumper camp even though they are close together. It felt less lonely being surrounded by the guys at the base even though many of them just ignored me.
“My home is that one there” I state pointing to a small house made of stone. The exterior of my home was made from a bunch of different sized rocks that all had a smooth surface. When our home were built I had adored the wooden ones but after having a nightmare where my fire went uncontrolled, it was never a possibility.
As we approached the door Maximus finally put his phone back in his pocket. “The things you ordered will be delivered shortly. Don’t forget that Xander expects a report from you at the end of each day” he reminded me. Then he turned and continued on the path leaving Igneous and I on my doorstep. I was a little worried that he hadn’t said much as we walked here. Along the way he had even let go of my hand and I was starting to feel the chill.
I pushed through the door and walked into my home. I quickly surveyed the small living room and was happy to see that everything appeared to be tidy. I turned to find Igneous just standing in the doorway with a pensive expression. “You can come in” I say nervously. This would be the first time I had another man in my home besides Maximus. Even the times he came it was never for long and usually he was waiting for me to finish readying.
“Are you sure? If you are uncomfortable with this arrangement I am sure we could find something else.” He offers as he places his hands into his pockets. His curious gaze roams the room as he speaks. I can hear his heart beating in his chest. I smirk knowing that he is nervous just as I am.
Our mate should feel welcome in our home. Do something
“I’m sure we can make this arrangement work. Why don’t we sit on the sofa and have a chat?” I offer gesturing to my black couches. He turns toward the door and my heart freezes in my chest thinking that he is going to leave but he does is close it. As I take a seat on one end of the couch he sits on the other and for a moment there is nothing but silence in the room. I rub my chilling arms nervously.
“Well…..,” “Is….” We say at the same time and then chuckle. “Why don’t you go first” I offer.
He shifts on his cushion and turns toward me. “I actually don’t even know where to begin. We have both kind of just been thrown into this situation. I don’t even know what it is that you want” he says with a huff.
“Oh, well I’m not really sure what I want” I say as his shoulder sag at my omission. “I know that I enjoy having you around and my beast does to.”
I still think I like him more.
“I like being near you too. I’ve never been drawn to someone like I am you. At first when I found out about the way we react to each other I was angry. Not just because you left but because I felt like this was something I couldn’t share with anyone else. For some strange reason I feel like I could share anything with you. Is that odd?” he ask.
“No, not at all” I say shaking my head. “I feel the same way about you. Believe it or not I feel a little lost too. This has never happened before.
Everyone is so interested about us because of it. It’s nice to finally be alone” I say. Our gazes meet and as we stare the air grows thick and my body starts to heat. I move to lean toward him but just as I begin to shift there is a knock at the door.
“Perhaps I spoke to soon” I state in irritation as I rise to get it.
Ignore the door. No one is more important than our mate.
I swiftly open the door to find two baskets on the stoop. I pick them up and bring them in. My stomach growls as I smell the food in one of them.
I haven’t eaten anything since yesterday. As I recall this I remind myself that it’s probably the same for him. “Why don’t we eat at the table, and we can finish our discussion there” I say walking to my small dining room.
I sit the basket on the table and go to grab plates and utensils from the kitchen. While there I fill two glasses with water. When I return Igneous has already taken a seat. I open the basket and find ribs, steak, potatoes, and salad. I hurriedly make out plates and sit the basket on the ground as we both readily dig in. As we eat there is a calm silence in the air. I thought that with him being here things wouldn’t be normal in my home. I smile knowing that I like his company even if we are doing something as domesticated as sharing a meal.
Of course we are comfortable. He was made for us. He will be ours forever.
“What are you smiling about” he ask wiping his hands on a napkin.
“Nothing really, I just thought it would be odd having you in my home. I have never really had a guest to entertain” I admit.
His eyebrow raise. “You don’t ever have anyone over?” he ask incredulous.
“No, the only other person that has ever entered my home besides me is Maximus” I state.
