Escape-Igneous
I have been tossing and turning for hours barely able to get any sleep. Even with having no clothing to cover an inch of my flesh, my skin is soaked with sweat. I rise from the bed knowing that resting is no longer an option. The rising sun has taken away the cool breeze in the night air even though it didn’t do much.
As I stand from the bed I look back at the grey comforter and see that my body is lined out atop it from the perspiration from my skin. The figure looks as if I tried to make a snow angel on the bed from how much I moved. I wipe the sweat from my tired eyes and head toward the bathroom. I turn on the shower to the coldest setting and step under the spray. I bellow against the pain of the water hitting my flesh. I jerk out from under the spray and watch as steam quickly fills the enclosure of the shower.
It should be impossible to see any steam at all with the water set this low. As I think of the ramifications of what this means I know that I am truly in trouble. I stick my hand into the running water and quickly snatch it back at the sting that it brings. My breath hisses in the air of the bathroom and I anger at the thought of not having the coolness of the water.
I step out of the shower since it is no longer a possibility and turn of the water. I bang my fist against the wall in pure fury at the graveness of my situation. I move to rummage through the medicine cabinet not caring as things fall to the sink and to floor. When I don’t find what I need their I move to go through the cabinet under the sink. When I find the thermometer I quickly place it in mouth and count to twenty.
I pull it from my mouth with a fast jerk as I read the gauge. 105.1. I sway unsteadily on my feet as I read the numbers. If I were still a regular human I would be comatose about now. I shake out my limbs to see if they feel heavy and take a sigh of relief that they are not. I need to find a way out of here. If I am already so hot just after a night then Magma must be close to freezing to death.
I rush out of the bathroom and pull my pants slowly over my sensitive flesh. I don’t even bother putting on my shirt as I move to go downstairs. I pass the clock in the hall and notice that it is only just past nine in the morning. Hopefully, my parents have the proof they need so I can leave freely. Even if they don’t I’ve decided that I am done sitting around for it.
When I exit the staircase I see that my father is already at his desk and my mother sits on the couch. I grind my teeth against the anger I feel knowing that their lives haven’t stopped even though they are ruining mine. I ball my hands into fist at my sides to control my anger. I know that if I start with an attitude than I am unlikely to get the answers I need. So, I take a deep breath and pour honey into my voice.
“Hello mother and father. Has there been any news or correspondence on the matter at hand?” I ask as calmly as I can.
My father barely lifts his head away from his computer screen to even acknowledge my presence. He looks at me with disgust from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet before returning back to his work. I clench my teeth wanting to lay into him but knowing that I need an answer first. I look at my mother who looks at me as if I have grown two heads.
“Well” I ask as she closes her laptop to face me.
“Are you all right. Your skin looks kind of red?” She ask as she stares at me.
I roll my eyes at her question thinking that she just wants to change the subject. “I’m fine mother. Now can you please answer my question” I grit out through my teeth.
“No” she says simply as she turns to reopen her laptop.
“What? Does that mean no there has been nothing new or no you cannot answer my question?” I say louder.
“No there has been nothing new Igneous. Do try to focus on something else dear. We still have two days” she says with exasperation as if it is a choir to answer my inquiry.
I feel my anger snap at her careless words and can no longer control my mouth. “I can’t focus on anything else because of what you two have caused. I would be happy with my woman if you two didn’t feel the need to intervene in my life like you have the right after all this time” I scream at her.
“Now Igneous…..”My father says as he tries to intervene. I quickly interrupt him not wanting to hear what he has to say.
“No, Michael and Ivette. It’s time to listen to what I have to say. I am done being a pawn that YOU choose to move when YOU feel like YOU need a new toy to play with” I bellow as I watch their expression to make sure they hear me. My mother rises from her seat as my father steps forward turning red. “I am the one that gets to decide what I do with my life.” I jab a finger to my chest for emphasis. “YOU can stay here and continue to torture each other. I am leaving to find my woman and I don’t care what either of you have to say about it!” I yell as I turn toward the door.
I slip my feet into my shoes to the tension filled silence behind me and swing the door open so hard it bangs against the wall. I stomp through the entry way and job down the steps. I ignore the captain in his car as I turn toward the tree in the direction I know leads to the camp.
“Stop him at once. He is trying to escape” I hear my father yell.
I don’t bother turning back as I hear how he speaks to the captain. I walk on as I hear the footsteps of the officer rushing to catch up to me. I whirl around when I know he close. He sees my expression and holds up his hands as if to ward me off.
“Come on now son. I don’t want to have to hurt you, but I need you to get back in that house. If you don’t I’m going to be forced to restrain you” he tells me.
“Not going to happen” I say as I shift into my fighting stance. I’m so sick of everyone trying to control me. I need to get to Magma. I should have never went with them. I should have fought harder. I need to find her to ease our suffering.
“You are nothing but my parents lacky, if they have a problem they can deal with me directly. So, since you want to try to stop me from leaving, why don’t you take your best shot” I offer him.
He looks at my stance and seems to come to a decision. Instead of rushing toward me to prove his point, he cools off and leans back on the balls of his feet. “I don’t think I need to do anything son. You aren’t going anywhere” he says with a smirk.
“Watch me” I say as I start to walk backwards. I still want to make it to Magma but there is no way I’m giving him my back. He seems just the type to try to stab me in it all for someone to make a few extra bucks. After a few steps back on my end he still makes no move to step toward me. I should almost be at the tree line. Once I reach it I can easily make a run for it, and it should be hard for him to follow.
Suddenly I feel a sharp pinch on my back and then I lose control of my body. As the world before me swirls my already sensitive skin feels as if thousands of bees fly around underneath my skin.
I feel as my knees hit the ground and all the pain suddenly disappears. My breath wooshes from my chest as I fight for breath and a tingling sensation is left behind. I push off my hands to rise knowing that this is all the officer needs to advance.
As I rise onto unsteady legs he quickly fills my vision at a few feet away. I take a step toward him ready to attack when suddenly the pain flares in my back again. This time I clinch my teeth against it and fight to stay standing. I make eye contact with the Captain, and he has a gun pointed at the center mass of my body. He works for my parents, and I know they wouldn’t let him shoot me. When the pain stops shooting through my body I glare at him and say, “Is that all you got pencil pusher?.”
His weird looking gun flashes a light as strings fly toward me. They hit my chest and I go down again on the ground as my body spasms and those bees fly even faster under my skin. When I am dazed on the ground, the cocky captain leans down toward my face so he can look me in the eye. “This pencil pusher has dealt with men who cause more fear then you.” With his parting words I feel the electricity of the taser once more as my vision goes black.
