Forget Me Not- Magma
I groan against the fog. I have been wandering here for so long that I have lost all track of time. I know that I needed to find someone but for the life of me I just can’t remember who. I grasp my head against the pain I feel. My steps slow as the headache pounds. I fight through the pain and know that for some reason I have to keep moving. There is something lost that I must find.
I look around in the fog once more and notice that still nothing has changed. I have the odd feeling that if I don’t keep moving I would be trapped here forever. I decide to change my direction once more to see if I will have better luck walking this way. As I walk I begin to hear a voice. This voice sounds so much like mine but deeper. For some reason it seems so familiar, and I know I need to find this voice.
It will give me answers to all the unknown questions that I have. I hope it can tell me who I am and what I have lost. Suddenly as I run the fog begins to thin. Panting with heavy breath I make myself run faster toward the sound of that beautiful voice. I have been stuck here for so long in the quiet of the fog that I suddenly feel excitement to meet someone, anyone.
As the fog completely disappears I jerk to a hurried stop at the thing that sits before me. It is a might scarlet red beast. The blood red eyes and its giant size make me hunger for the calmness of the fog. I turn to head back in that direction but see the fog no more. For as far as the eye can see there is only a sea of white in the distance. I look back at the ginormous beast and watch as its large eyes blink.
When the beast moves and starts to come toward me. I drop to the floor and curl into a ball in fear. I’m going to die here. This giant monster is going to chew me into tiny piece with its enormous teeth. As I cower on the floor shaking in fear I wait for the pain to begin. When nothing happens I peek through my hair and see the large head of the beast as it watches me.
“What are you doing?” the giant red beast ask me as it tilts its head to the side.
“I’m afraid of you so I’m trying to hide” I answer slapping a hand over my mouth. Why have I just told it that. Now that it know I fear it, it will surely eat me now.
“You have no need to fear me Magma. We have been friends for a long time, and I would never intentionally hurt you” the beast says.
For some reason I feel as if the words she speaks are true. I sit up from my position on the floor and look at her enormous size once more. My fear starts to dissipate slowly as I realize that this thing is actually kind of beautiful.
“What are you?” I ask it. The head jerks back as if I have wounded it.
“You do not know?” When I shake my head in reply a sad look crosses the eyes of the beast. “Do you remember anything, anything at all?” I shake my head once more. The beast stares at me pensively and I wring my fingers together feeling suddenly nervous under its intense gaze.
“I am you. There are two sides to people like you and I am the other side. I am called a dragon. We are fierce protectors in our race. Together we battle fires and save any lives. I protect you as you protect me” it says in answer to my question.
I feel a smile pull up my lips wanting to laugh at the absurdity of her answer. However, my mind somehow knows that once more she has only the truth. This big giant beast must belong to me. I stand on my feet as I take a better look at the beast. As I crane my neck as far back as it can go I look into her eyes.
“So If you belong to me, this means that I can make you do whatever I want” I suggest to her.
She rolls her giant red eyes and looks at me more seriously. “No, because we always occupy the same body we make decisions together. We are partners and neither of us should hold dominion over the other” it says seriously.
Even though something is telling me that every word she speaks is the truth I still have to ask.
“How do I know you are telling the truth?” I question as I cock my him and lean an arm against it.
The eyes of the beast glisten with humor as she provides her answer “For this entire conversation, my lips have not moved to speak with you. The bond we have allows me to talk into your head, just as you have been communicating with me” it says with a laugh.
Huh. I think to myself but then I hold my hand to my mouth as I ask her another question. If you can hear this question, nod your head. When the beast nods her head in y direction I laugh at how cool I find this fact.
“Come with me Magma, we must not stay here much longer” she says. She leans down onto her giant hind quarters and shakes her big body so that he wings move slightly. “Climb onto my back and I will take us where we belong” she offers.
With a boldness I didn’t know that I possessed. I walk up to the dragon and brace my hands to climb on top of her. It takes a large amount of effort on my part because she is so huge. Once I am sitting at the base of her neck and near the top of her shoulders I watch enraptured as her wings open.
“One last question dragon” as I get read to ask she swings her head I my direction to meet my eyes.
“What your name so I can stop calling you dragon” I wonder aloud.
“Soon our mate will give me a name and then you will know what to call me” she says. As her wings flap behind me I grasp onto her neck to the best of my ability. When she lifts into the air the world begins to swirl in a mirage a color as everything becomes nothing.
