Family?-Magma
My body sways in euphoria as I pull my mouth away from Igneous’ neck and my teeth recede. Flames roar from my mouth as my dragon shouts her joy at finally claiming out mate.
MINE
My body disconnects from his as the world shifts. I look to Igneous smiling at the pleasure I feel in my veins and see how pale he is. As my dragon turns to slumber in my mind, my worry increases as I grab his cold hand in mine. I listen for his heart and shed tears as its beat starts to fade. When the beating stops all at once my vision goes black and everything disappears.
“Wake my child, we haven’t much time” I hear as my hair is brushed away from my face. I blink my eyes open to see the woman I saw in my dreams as a child.
“I know you” I murmur as my memory recalls her smooth flowing voice. I take in her strikingly beautiful features and smile at her. As I look around I see that we are in a silver room, and she kneels over me on the floor.
“Where are we” I ask her as she helps me rise. I smile as I watch her kimono flow like water. Seeing the pretty dress again has me smiling at its beauty as I did as a child.
“We are nowhere and everywhere. We are in between the past and the present. Come my child your mate is dying. To save him you must follow me until he decides” she says taking my hand.
“No, he can’t be dying. I love him” I scream as I grasp her hand in mine. “Wait, you can save him can’t you” I ask her as we walk.
“If all goes right he will save himself and you in return. You will have to accept his plea if he is to live” she commands.
“What plea? Why won’t you just tell me plainly what needs to be done instead of speaking in riddles?” I ask as I snatch my hand away from hers. “Why am I here with you? I don’t even know you” I yell as I start to get angry.
“You must control your anger Magma, or your hatred will cost you your male” my vision starts to become red at her threat and she begins to back away. “Listen to my voice Magma. Who does it remind you of?” she screams as my body starts to grow. I can feel my body start to shift as her words it me. I do know her voice. I’ve heard it for years. “That’s it. You know I can only speak the truth. I hold no power over you because I have worked with you all your life” she says as her volume decreases, and my anger disappears.
“Why do you sound like my dragon. Who are you to me” I ask her curiously. My dragon has never taken another form besides her own. I do not understand this.
“I gave my voice to your dragon, so that when this time came you would understand your path” she says coming back toward me. “I needed you to recognize me as your kin for you are the last of mine” she conveys grabbing my hands.
“I have no family. I only have Igneous” I tell her in a sad whisper.
“I am so sorry dear. I never meant for this to happen. When I created your curse it was to punish another my dear grandchild. I was angry and hurt at the loss of your father. I didn’t even know when I cast the spell how powerful it would be. Come let me show you” she pleads walking to a door.
We enter another silver room, and a television is displayed on the wall. We take a seat in the only two chairs and then the show begins. I watch the life of her son Draco, my father, as he falls for another other than his betrothed. I see his powerful love and how no matter what he chooses her. I watch as the woman he loves grows angry at his betrayal. I see how he does in a horrible accident. I watch as the girl weeps for his loss, but gains hope when a child grows in her womb.
I see her visit to the boy’s mother who sits next to me now as she watches the screen with tears in her eyes. She gives the girl a horrible curse and turns her into a monster. I see the power in the air as her siblings fight her, but she drains them dry. When she transforms that first night, I watch as her beast flies far under the stars. It lands in my old home as it births a golden egg in the yard.
The egg gets passed down from generation to generation through the years. As I watch it never changes. As the egg hatches so many years later, the screen freezes on the face of a beautiful baby with the darkness black hair and red streaks. I stare with my mouth wide open at a scene I have watched many times.
“That’s me. The women you cursed, Io, she was my mother. The boy Draco your son was my father. You really are my kin”” I say as my voice cracks. I embrace her with a smile on my face feeling some of the loneliness in my soul disappear. I have a family. “Hello grandmother Kawa” I say remembering her name from the vision.
“You have the strength of my son and gentle beauty of your mother. I knew how much trouble she had controlling her anger so over the years I have helped you to control it so her fate would not become yours” she whispers into my ear as she embraces me back. I am so sorry for the life I have granted you. I just need you to know that you are no monster. Neither was your mother” she insist as she meets my gaze.
“I know. He helped me to see who I am. He is much more than I ever hope for” I tell her with tears stinging my eyes. “I love him grandmother. I can’t lose him” I plead as she cradles my cheek in her palm.
“You may be the only of your kind that has a blood relation to me. I had to see you now so you would know the truth and share it with the others. They will understand it coming from you” she pleads.
Suddenly the room around us shakes and as I look around in wonder I watch as a square on the wall transforms. A silver block falls to the floor as a glowing red luminescent cube slides into place. My breath catches at the feeling and my tears link in joy.
My eyes fly to her face as she places a hand over my heart with a gentle smile on her face. “You won’t lose him my child. He has walked through your soul and accepted all of you. Human and beast. All you must do now is take the piece of his soul he has offered you” she says pointing to the box.
I rise from my chair and walk toward the beautiful silver cube. I pause as I lean down to pick it up looking back at her. “Will I ever see you again” I wonder out loud.
“No my child you won’t” she says sadly. “But every time you hear the words of Caldera, your dragon you will feel my love.”
I smile as I grasp the cube content with the piece of her I have as I pick up the shining cube. “I’m coming my love” I say to it. At my words, the cube in my hands begins to shine as it blinds my vision. I watch with glee as it shrinks in my hands and the ray links to my heart.
I feel his love and his acceptance as his soul joins with mine. The silver room with the one red cube disappears from my vision as I’m sucked into that light.
