Chapter 29: Darryl's Dark Side
Meanwhile, in room 1107...
The drunk man's attitude had completely changed, his previous overbearing look was gone, replaced by a pale fear.
"Sir... Mr. Darryl Rider. I was fooled by them so I foolishly came to you to cause trouble. I know I was wrong."
James knelt on the ground, his voice trembling, his limbs shaking, begging Darryl. He looked at Darryl anxiously, seeing Darryl completely ignore him, his cold expression holding a glass of wine, he panicked even more.
James's brother gambled and lost at Darryl's casino, because of his heavy debt, James' brother was hunted and beaten by Darryl's subordinates for months. Finally, unable to bear it anymore, James' brother committed suicide.
Later, James was advised by a friend that he could go to Darryl to claim compensation. Darryl will pay for his brother James' death if he messes up. James is greedy for money, and also because he wants to avenge his brother, so he doesn't care who Darryl Rider is, so he rushes to Darryl's bar to make a mess.
However, just now, he was beaten up by two of Darryl's subordinates. Only now did he know he was afraid. His face was swollen and disfigured, his nose was bleeding and his limbs were all bruised, but compared to his fear of pain, he was far more afraid of Darryl's oppressive feeling.
"Sir, I swear I will never appear before you again, I will..."
"Hey, you're quite brave enough to barge into my business premises alone." Darryl sat cross-legged, smirking and shaking her glass of wine.
James thought that Darryl didn't blame him anymore, but just praised him, so he temporarily let go of his fear, laughing like an idiot.
"It's not that I'm brave, sir, it's because you're lenient with me." James flattered.
"So you also know that I've been lenient with you?" Darryl suddenly slammed the wine glass on the table, causing it to shatter into sharp pieces. "I should have let you go, you're just a poor idiot anyway, but your filthy hands touched my woman. So..."
As he spoke, Darryl squeezed James' mouth, then Darryl cruelly shoved the sharp glass into his mouth. Fragments of glass fell into James' mouth, along with the sharp glass that cut into his mouth, causing his mouth to tear and bleed. He was in so much pain that he burst into tears, constantly moaning and begging Darryl for forgiveness. He did not expect that he was only accidentally teasing the beauty, but he was teasing the woman of this notorious and brutal mafia boss. James really regrets it.
"...remember to stop loitering around my business district, okay?"
James couldn't speak, he could only nod rapidly. Darryl let him go, then he wiped the blood off his hands with a white handkerchief. As Darryl leaves room 1107, a few guests from Regina's party are also returning. As they passed each other, he accidentally overheard their conversation.
"I still can't believe that Regina really became a record-breaking female singer in the prestigious music charts like BB. Yesterday no one even knew who she was."
"God, I didn't even listen to her new album until I heard the news earlier. Bet she'll be a global musical phenomenon soon."
"I think so too. Regina would be sleepless with joy."
The chatter faded away, and Darryl calmly walked forward. But if anyone looked closely at his face, they would see that the scary expression was gone, replaced by a relaxed, even slightly smiling expression.
"Transfer some extra money to Otis for me."
The subordinate obeyed and immediately followed Darryl's request. At this time, Darryl passed by Regina's party room. In the afternoon, Myrna called him and asked him to lend her a party room at his bar to host a party for Regina.
The door of the room was slightly ajar, the guests were leaving gradually because it was now almost 4 am. Darryl glanced inside and saw a few people drinking and chatting. Very quickly, he saw Regina curled up on the sofa sleeping soundly, her face rosy, occasionally snorting softly. The music was less loud, but the conversation was still there, even so, it didn't affect her sleep. Indeed, her mood seemed very happy, even when she slept, she was still smiling.
Darryl was about to step in to take her home when Myrna approached and woke her up. Regina opened her eyes, still not fully awake, but quietly did as Myrna said, taking her bag and preparing to leave.
Seeing that, Darryl left the place.
Regina left the party room and turned to the toilet. Suddenly, she heard some strange noises. In the men's toilet, there was a man sitting at the door. Looking at the outfit that the man was wearing, Regina immediately realized that he was the drunk guy who was about to grovel her when she had just arrived at this bar. At first, she thought he was too drunk to stand, so she quietly tried to leave the toilet. Unexpectedly, when she accidentally glanced at him, she discovered that he was not vomiting but bleeding from his mouth. He was spitting all the glass out of his mouth, looking very painful.
Regina stared blankly at him, at this moment he turned to look at her as well. But contrary to his aggressive look and beaming smile, he now looked very miserable, even seeing her, he panicked and waved his hand to tell her to stay away from him.
Regina saw someone so badly injured for the first time, she didn't dare to interfere in his business so she quickly left, calling an ambulance in the hopes that the drunk man would be fine.
By the time Regina reached the gate, Myrna's car had already left. Regina was stunned, she clearly told Myrna to wait for her, is it possible that Myrna was so drunk that she forgot so quickly? While confused, a luxury car stopped right next to her, Regina was no longer unfamiliar with this car, she knew this was Darryl's car.
The windows rolled down and Darryl sat in the driver's seat.
Darryl drove Regina home, and sharing a car with Darryl made her a little more alert. The two of them weren't talking to each other at all, Regina could even hear her own breathing.
"Your sleeve has blood on it." Regina spoke up to break the awkward atmosphere between them.
Darryl glanced at his sleeve for a moment and nodded. Then his fingers tapped the steering wheel in a steady rhythm, like he was wondering what to do. Finally, he reached out and pressed a button on the car radio, and a song played. Regina who was engrossed in looking out the window was suddenly surprised and turned her head.
It's a song on her album. This song is titled "Confession hidden in the eyes of a lover". This is a gentle ballad, combined with Regina's clear and warm voice into a perfect melody.
Regina sneaked a glance in Darryl's direction, seeing him nodding to the music, his fingers occasionally tapping on the steering wheel. He seems to enjoy this song a lot.
Several thoughts ran through Regina's mind. She recalls when she complained to him that her album was not well received, that same night all the songs on her album were famous and entered the BB chart. At night, when she got into trouble with a drunk guy, he showed up in time, and then the drunk guy was beaten until he almost died. Also, the fact that Myrna rented a party room at Darryl's bar, and then Myrna purposely drove back so that Darryl could return to her. Everything seems to be in Darryl's arrangement.
Regina pursed her lips, a man like Darryl really made her feel both unpredictable and difficult to please. He secretly did so many things for her, but he never admitted those things. Even when she felt as though he liked her, he proved that their marriage was nothing more than a business between her father and him.
The light of dawn gradually appeared behind the tall buildings, the soft music sounded in the car, where the two people were with chaotic thoughts.
