Father
Grayson had a hard time stopping me from crying, but after that, we had to re-heat the food since it got cold.
“I was shocked that you knew how to cook. I mean, you cook so well,” He said while munching his food, I’m stopping myself from laughing, he looks like an ordinary man in front of me.
“Hey, slow down, it’s all yours, I’ve got more. Slow down, you might choke,” I reminded him, but let him eat as he wishes, “Like wht I mentioned, our parents died, and we don’t have anyone to rely on, so I have to do everything, since I’m the oldest,”
He slowed down, “I mean, you don’t have any guardian, how about your grandmother or grandfather?”
“They hated us, they wouldn’t want to see any of us, since we are a product of something they defy,”
He nodded, “Like some old stories,” he said, I chuckled and continue eating. I want to ask about him, but I’m a bit afraid that it might offend him, so I chose to stay quiet.
“I talked to Dan’s doctor last night, Dan must have responding to the medication, since he starts to show some good signs, his body is responding to the new medications.
I halted, I looked at him, a hopeful smile appeared on my face, “Really?”
He nodded, “Yup,”
“I thought he was okay when he woke up from the hospital that day, he was on his usual routine and nothing seems so wrong, you don’t know how broken-hearted I am when I saw him suddenly faint again.
“The doctor said it is one of the most common thing about that disease, it is a traitor one, when you think nothing is going wrong and all his medication suddenly working then there is another episode, it means that his body can no longer fight using his immune system alone,”
“You know that I decided to continue this contract because of Dan, and Jane, I want them to live a good life, that they won’t experience what I experience when our parents passed away,”
Grayson looked at me, “You’re going to become a good mother in the future,”
My heart doubled, but smiled afterward, “Thanks,”
“What are your plans after our contract?” He suddenly asked, “Do you have any plans?”
“Well, I’ve been dreaming to have my own flower shop,” I answered truthfully.
“But you graduated with a medical degree, aren’t you?”
“Yeah,” I answered, “But I took that course because that’s what my mom wants me to, but along my way, I learned to loved nursing, since I love helping people, but if you would ask me, I want to own my flower shop, I love when I can hold flowers, and do magic and arranged them beautifully,”
“Do you have money for that?”
“A have savings, though it’s not enough. As of now, I’m holding to that dreams, I want to make sure that I will planned it carefully,”
“Well, if you need help, you can always asked me,” He jokingly said, “I’ll make sure that you will have a successful business,”
I chuckled and nod, “Speaking of,” I stood up, and starts to fix the dishes, we are both done eating, he also stood up and grab some containers, “I’m thinking of looking for a job,” Grayson’s brow furrowed, “I mean, this contract pays me, and it will go straightly to Dan’s treatment,”
“Yeah? But I can provide while we are under the contract? Do you need anything big, is that why you’re thinking of looking for a job?”
I shrug while putting the dish on the dishwasher, “No, it’s just that, I’m used to working my ass off, and anyway, I don’t want to burden you with my needs, when I know in fact that I am capable of doing so,”
“You’re not burdening me, Eli. Who said that?” He suddenly looks mad.
I chuckled, “No one, Gray. Just let me work, okay? Besides you transfer Dan to a high-end hospital, and I know he is well taken care, and Jane? She’ll let me know if she needs anything, I made her promise to do that, so let me work, so that I can gain the knowledge and experiences that I need, you’re not planning to imprison me althroughout this contract, aren’t you?”
“Of course not! You are free to do anything, as long as it won’t violate any rules, and you won’t get harm,”
“Exactly, so let me look for a job,”
I heard him sighed, “Okay, you can do whatever you wish to do,” I heard his defeating tone, “If you won’t mind, we have an opening for company nurses, let me know if you’re interested, don’t worry, the employment process is fair, it is what it’s like with other applicants,”
My eyed widen, “Really?! What requirements do they need?”
“I’m not sure, since I don’t handle those, I just heard it last week, you can send your curriculum vitae through this email,” he said and handed me a calling card from his wallet, “That’s the HR department, they will let you know,”
I smiled while looking at the calling card, then looked at Grayson, “Thank you, again?” I muttered.
H shrugged and transfer the left over foods in the container and put it inside the refrigerator, “I can’t promise that you will get hired, since you wouldn’t want any strings to be pulled, but I think your credentials will speak for you,”
“Hopefully,” I said. I was about to grab the dishes when the door bell rang, we excahnged confused look.
“Are you expecting any visitor tonight?” He asked.
“No, I don’t have a lot of friends to do that,” I jokingly said, “Let me get the door, just continue doing that,” He nodded.
I exited the dinning and went straight to the door. I opened the intercom connected to the gate outside.
Standing just outside the gate, a man in his late forties exuded an intimidating and strict aura. His sharp, tailored suit fit him perfectly, emphasizing his imposing stature. A crisp white shirt peeked out from beneath a dark, meticulously knotted tie. His stern expression was framed by neatly combed, salt-and-pepper hair, and his piercing eyes scanned the surroundings with a discerning gaze. The polished leather shoes he wore glinted in the light, completing his authoritative presence. Every aspect of his appearance radiated discipline and control, making it clear that he was not a man to be taken lightly. He has a distinct features that is oddly familiar.
“Good evening, who might you be looking for?”
His eyes scanned me from my eyes through my feet, “Who the hell are you, are you new here?” He said and pass through me, and feel himself at home, I was astonished.
“Uh—”
“Get me some water,” he cut me off, I wasn’t able to move, he darted his eyes on me, his brow arched, “What are you still doing there, stupid? I said get me some water!” I was taken aback.
“I-uh, I—”
“And what the hell are you doing here? Didn’t I made myself clear not to step your foot in my property? I can accuse you of trespassing!” It was Grayson, he was fuming mad.
The man laughed, “Trespassing? To your own father? You’re making me laugh, Grayson Spencer!” The old man said followed by a mocking laugh.
My eyes widen and looked at the man, he is Grayson’s father? Woah, that’s why he looks oddly familiar. Grayson got his looked I think mostly from him.
“Eli, go to your room, I’ll talk to you later,” Grayson said, I nodded and walked.
“Room? Oh, I see. So you have a slut in your house? What a funny story we got here, eh?” The man said, my heart aches, he called me name right after meeting me once?
“Don’t you fucking call her names, you old man,” Grayson said. His voice is deep, alarming and—dangerous?
“I can call her whatever I like, you don’t have the rights to tell me—”
“Well, with all due respect, I’m so sorry to burst your bubble, sir. I am Elina Marquez if you were wondering,”
“What?! How dare you—”
“Yeah, how dare me to answer like this, but wouldn’t be also an insult to the owner of this house that you invite yourself to my husband’s property without even asking him if he is comfortable with your presence?”
He stood up, I can see him—raging mad, “You useless thing! And what?! Your husband? Don’t joke around lady—”
“Elina, that’s my name, and yes we have been married for two years now, and I think you also don’t have the rights to call me names, when in fact, you just met me once. Even the clairvoyance wouldn’t be able to tell that at the first meeting,”
His rage doubled, he is looking at me with disbelief. I may look tough right now but my heart is racing so fast, that all I can hear was it.
“Grayson is my husband, that means I am the wife. So like what the law said, what Grayson owns, I own too—including this house. So I have the rights to ask you to step out of our house, it’s been a long day for us,”
He let out an exasperated sigh and stood up and grabbed his coat, “You will pay for this!”
I nodded and smiled, “Yeah, my husband is a billionaire, add that to his tab, then.” I answered, “I believe we don’t have to escort you out, since you probably know your way out, thank you for the visit and have a good night, dad,”
