Dinner with the queen
Janice glared at Jules as their hands collided when she was about to snatch the salt shaker from the table.
Since today, Jules had avoided her like a plague and had come only when the queen invited him to dinner.
Jules chuckled, shaking his head as he watched his wife. He didn't blame her for acting the way she did since he had been the one keeping the distance from her.
Heck, he had rejected her last night only to enter the room after she was asleep to grab the extra pillows and duvet there.
"You should eat more of this," Jules murmured, shoving the plate full of pork in front of her.
"I'm fine with this," Janice grunted, pointing to the sausage on her plate.
Jules frowned, as he discovered she had barely touched her food. He wondered if she was having trouble with nausea again when she wrinkled her nose.
However, he noticed she hadn't dashed to the bathroom ever since the doctor had given her the drugs.
Moreover, he realized she was getting bigger which he found alluring. His eyes glazed over as he imagined her without the dress she was on now.
Shaking his head to clear his wayward thoughts, he stared at her. "You've barely touched your food."
"No shit, Sherlock." Janice snorted, then glanced at the queen who reprimanded her for her language.
"Will you two quit doing that?" The Queen said whilst staring at each of them.
She saw Janice shrugged her shoulders, and her son sighed. Her brows furrowed as she thought of what was going on between them.
They seemed like a happy couple yesterday and didn't look like they were having trouble with each other. Even during the kiss, she had noticed how receptive she was despite her stiffness.
However, now it seemed Janice preferred to be anywhere than here.
The queen had glimpsed the furious and betrayed look that had emerged on her face when she sighted Jules.
She had thought it was because Jules had left the house to attend to his business. Now, she understood it wasn't.
"You know what I hated the most is having people picking at their foods. Especially a pregnant woman." The queen paused eyeing Janice as her fork stilled on that plate.
Momentarily, Janice glanced at the woman next to her and was tempted to leave the dining hall if not that it would make her look rude if she did.
She doubted if the Queen would be on her side if she mentioned what was going on.
Maybe, she would term her childish. Because it was how she was acting now as she thought about it now.
Though Janice didn't know the reason he had acted the way he did yesterday, she had forgiven him as soon as she came awake. Still, he had made her remembered after walking in the opposite direction the moment he sighted her.
"If you have an issue with your husband, settle it in the bedroom before coming to this place. Stop grumbling and glaring." The Queen said, then glanced at Janice who was now uninterested in the food place in front of her.
"Stop picking at your food Janice. Eat it now, you look barely healthy." The Queen ordered.
A blush appeared on Janice's cheeks, and she bit her cheeks to stop her from retorting rudely. "I'm sorry, Your Grace. But, I don't feel too good."
Jules' eyes left his food and trailed to his wife. He knew she was lying since she often looks down and wrung her fingers if she does.
"If you are not feeling too well, you should rest and not stress yourself out. You are a queen now, and you need to look the part and not like someone that is being starved and deprived of all the love in this world."
Jules stood, and held his hand out. "Come on,"
Janice allowed Jules to lift her off her seat, she curtsied before leaving the hall with him.
As soon as they were back in the room, Jules went back out. Perhaps to finish his meal because Janice didn't see him until later.
"How are you feeling?" Jules asked, leaning on the bed. He stroked her hair and placed the back of his palm on her head to feel her temperature.
"I'm fine." Janice winced whilst attempting to sit up on the bed.
Also, her stomach grumbled to remind her she had barely eaten anything for today.
"I'll be right back," Jules said.
He stepped into the room with a large tray in his hand. He set it on the small coffee table and helped her out of the bed.
Janice shook her head whilst sitting on the plush one-seater Jules placed in front of her. "I'm fine."
"Maybe when you are done eating, I'll know whether you are fine or not."
"It's not like you care if I am."
"I won't be here if I don't." He said simply.
"But, you've been avoiding me since morning. Even yesterday, you refused to touch me." Janice blushed.
A smirk appeared on his face briefly, before he replaced it with a frown. "I don't want to hurt you."
"You haven't hurt me before, why should you now?" Asked Janice.
"I did hurt you by marking your skin." Jules grimaced as he remembered what had happened two days ago.
"You did, but I forgive you already for that. Also, pretending like you didn't see me is worse than marking my skin."
It was the truth. She realized she had hurt him as well as his reputation by fleeing.
"Well, I'm sorry. I was only trying to control myself because when it came to you. I can't."
"Why?"
"You are so perfect and your body is soft and tempting." Said Jules, caressing her face.
He latched his lips onto hers in a slow sweet kiss. For some second, Janice forgot she was angry with him as she shifted into his waiting arms.
Jules ended the kiss and pulled her close to him. "I'm sorry for last night. Hope you'll forgive me for that."
"I'm not angry anymore. I thought I was undesirable."
"Even when your hair is greying, you'll still be desirable to me, Madame," Jules smirked.
Janice laughed as she thought of the possibility. She believed Jules could do anything he said but she doubted if they would last that long.
