Labour(1)
It was midnight when the first wave of contraction hit her.
Janice had ignored the previous one as she thought it was a minor pain and had tried to sleep through it.
But then, it came back stronger.
It was then, she realized she was going into labour.
She thought she was some days away from it because she often checked the calendar. She was certain she hadn't missed anything. Even Jules wasn't around yet and the thought of having a child without him being present made her panic.
"I am not prepared." She mumbled. Her hand went through her dishevelled hair and she let out a breath through her mouth whilst she waddled towards where her robe was hung.
She walked back to the nightstand, snatched her phone from it and began to dial Jules' number until another smacked into her.
She doubled over, the phone in her hand clattered to the phone and she clenched her teeth whilst groaning in pain.
"No, no, not yet!" She said over and over again. But that didn't stop her from having more contractions. Jules wasn't picking his phone and she cussed whilst wondering where he was at.
He had never been so late in answering her whenever she phoned him. Perhaps, he was asleep. But then, he never slept too long. He often woke up at the slightest noise. Maybe he was having an important meeting.
Janice wondered what meeting he was having at midnight.
When it seemed like she couldn't take it anymore, she shrieked out in pain.
"Gracie!" She yelled.
Her hand went to her tummy. It felt like the baby was trying to rip itself out.
She had thought having period pain was worse, this was terrible. She didn't want to experience this anymore.
She had seen a lot of videos and what some women went through, she had thought they were exaggerations. She never knew it was real until now.
"Oh, God." Janice breathed out whilst trying to move to the door.
She could barely control her legs. They trembled and almost gave way when she was halfway to the room. But, she didn't give up, she urged herself to continue walking.
"Gracie!" She called again.
She didn't care if it was midnight and no one was meant to make that loud noise in the castle, strict order by the dowager queen.
She was in pain and needed someone to attend to her as soon as possible.

Jules jerk awoke from his slumber by the sound of the continuous ring of the alarm. He rubbed his heavy eyes and winced as his head pounded.
"Oh, darling."
He turned to his side as he heard a murmur. A gorgeous brunette was curled up beside him with nothing on.
Nothing on?!
His eyes widened and he checked himself to see he was bare as well.
What happened last night?!
He could remember having a few drinks with some of his friends as it was the last day of the meeting and they often sealed the deal whilst sharing a few drinks.
But, he couldn't remember being home with any woman.
"You are awake." The brunette was obviously still high slurred. She rose slowly from the bed, went to his back and wrapped her hands around his shoulder.
Her enormous bouncy breast was pressed to his back whilst she placed tiny kisses from his neck downwards.
Jules grunted, before removing her hand away from him.
"What, darling? I thought you enjoyed this because you never complained last night."
He turned to glare at her.
"Why the f**k are you here?"
"You invited me, duh." The brunette said. "And maybe I need to remind you my name as well, it's Tricia." She rolled her eyes.
Jules kicked himself mentally, rose from the bed and walked into the bathroom with his clothes.
A few seconds later, he was out fully dressed in the tuxedo he donned the night before.
"I expect you to be out of here in…" He glanced at the wristwatch he donned then back at her. "Two minutes. That is enough time for you to get dressed."
He pulled some notes from his wallet and tossed them on the bed before walking to the door.
"I never believed when they said you were this frigid. You are truly a prick." She mumbled.
Jules shook his head and stepped out of the door. It wasn't the first time he would be referred to in such a way and he believed it wouldn't be the last.
But what was haunting him was what he had done. He had f**king slept with a slut!
Not even a classy one that would keep the thing they had done in secret. A common tramp that he often never looked at twice.
He wondered if it was a set-up. Maybe his friend had done that because he had told them he was only interested in his wife. His pregnant wife and he had freaking cheated on her.
He doubted Janice would be happy if she got to find out and even in the current condition she was in, he hoped she would not.
His ringing phone snapped him out of his thoughts. He stared at it and noticed he had missed several calls from Janice.
Whilst glancing at it, he noticed it was a few seconds before he had jerked awake. He guessed it must have been the alarm he thought was ringing.
"Mother," Jules said into the phone, whilst using his free hand to unlock his car.
"Thank goodness!" She breathed out.
Jules's heart skipped a beat. Whenever he heard his mother speak in that breathy tone, he believed something was up with Janice.
"What is wrong?"
"You might need to get here before your child is born. Since it is her first, I believe she has a lot of hours left."
"Child, born?" Jules repeated. Before letting out some cuss words.
He heard his mother winced but he didn't care to correct himself for swearing. His wife was in labour and she had tried to reach out to him. But he was busy snuggling up with a cheap whore.
Damnation!
Jules kicked the tyre of his car, brought out his phone and made a few phone calls before driving to the nearest airport.
