Farewell Clearwood
Jenna/Claire
I knock on Colby's office nervously.
After the emotional breakfast, I took Hanna to her room and tug her into bed. Then I went back to my room to pack all my clothes and made a call to Mr. Odega's house telling the maid to bring my luggage over. I hung up afterward and call Mother Superior to let her that I was coming back home. She didn't sound happy but after I explain my reasons she then agree for me to come back.
Here I am in front of Colby's door. "Come in" I hear his voice from inside. I open the door and step inside, closing the door behind me.
I smile at Colby and then at Shawn who is sitting on the left couch from Colby. There were papers on the table in the middle of the couches they are sitting on. I interrupted their work and I feel bad for intruding.
Colby looks at me and then his eyes address my clothes. Yes, I am back in my formal attire. Unlike this morning I have worn a high waist skirt that falls below the knee and a simple plain collar shirt that I tug into my skirt.
"Please take a seat," Shawn said ushering me to sit next to Colby.
"It's okay what I came for is quick," I said. Colby raised his brow.
"I see that you're in your holy attire" he struggles to name the clothes I am wearing. I didn't mind if he didn't know because I know were two different people with a different faith.
"Do you want to be somewhere today Sr. Claire?" Colby asks.
"I am here to say goodbye and also to ask you a favor."
They both almost jump up to their feet, both looking at me in stunned.
"I am sorry to cut this trip short but I have already asked Mother Superior and she agrees for me to come back. As for Mr. Odega please do give him this." I move forwarded and handed the letter to Shawn, then I move back.
"If this is about yesterday or this morning-"
"I can assure you it's not," I said cutting off Colby even though somehow that's the truth but I didn't want to make them feel bad.
"I miss the orphanage and I am required to be at the convent. Mother Superior will see for someone to look after Mr. Odega upon his return o Clearwood" I explain to them.
"We sincerely apologize if somehow you find your time here unwelcome and uncomfortable," Colby said. "To ease our heart and mind please accept our offer to give you a ride back home."
I nod my head and simply reply, "I am happy even though I am leaving. I appreciate your offer, Colby." I tried to give him my best smile.
"I guess, I'll take my leave then." I step backward and move towards the door. Remember that I am supposed to ask a favor. I stop by the door and turn around. "I am sorry and I know it's too much to ask but will you take care of Mrs. Harrison for me?"
They both look at me like I have grown two heads. "I know Jenna's a really deep topic for her and I will only be happy if she has someone to take care of her. I will only be at peace if it's you who is taking care of her," I said and nervously waited for their response afterward.
"I give you my word Je- Sr. Claire." It was Shawn who responded to me.
I look at Colby and he nods his head with a smile on his face. I felt relief wash over me. I am glad that they agree to look after her for me.
"Thank you and that's all I ever wanted."
Stepping out of there I close the door and pick up my suitcase from the ground. I made my way out of the house. However, before I completely out of the door a voice stops me.
"You're leaving?" the voice said. The ones that disapprove of my stay here and dislike me so much. Turning around I came to face with her. Somehow, it feels like déjà vu. Like we have been in this position before.
"Does Shawn knows?" she asks again.
"I already inform him and Colby" I answer with a smile and before she can speak again I go on and said. "I know that things haven't been okay between us but I want you to know that I hold no hatred towards you. Whatever bad blood we have I hope it ends here."
Hailey burst into tears saying "I am sorry Jenna."
Here we go again, the mentioning of that girl's name. The girl whom I wish to uncover her mystery but I decided to give up on it and go back home.
"You're wrong again Hailey," I said and she look up at me through her lashes. "I am not Jenna but Sr. Claire. I don't know what happened between the two of you. However, I do hope you move past it and forgive yourself. I am pretty sure Jenna is already in a good place."
I hope so, I thought aside to myself.
She let out another sob and I move in to hug her before pulling away and bid her goodbye.
"Oh please do send Mrs. Harrison, Jude, and the kids my apologies for leaving without letting them know." I turn back and walk out of the house, finally closing the door behind me.
There was a car waiting for me outside and a chauffeur who doesn't look like one stood by the car door. Once he sees me he runs up to me and holds on to the suitcase.
"I'll carry it for you, ma'am. Your bags from Elder Odega's are already in the car boot. I know it's your last day but glad to introduce myself to you. Hobert by the way" he said with a smile.
"Sr. Claire," I told him and step forward to the car door. I turn around taking a look at the house.
"This is it," I thought to myself.
It is time for me to say goodbye and forget the story of Jenna and Clearwood once I am out of here. After another two minutes of observing the house, I turn and get in the car. I made a sign of a cross and did a prayer for my safety travel back home.
The car moves and I end the prayer and take a look out of the car window. I move my gaze upwards and find Shawn standing at his window looking down at me. I see his hands on the window glass. I wave him goodbye but he didn't return it.
I sigh sadly and avert my gaze down to the first floor. I saw Colby holding Hailey in his arms. I smile a little and turn my head back in the front.
The car passes by the houses and streets that I was getting familiar with.
I try to hold my breath but I fail miserably. I rest my head back against the seat and mutter to myself "goodbye Clearwood."
