We pack all of our things in the car. The trunk and backseat are full to the brim. Packed with all the goodies we’d gotten on our slightly overwhelming and stressfully awkward yet amazing trip. So today, I promised myself that I was going to talk to my family. And for real, I’m slightly shaky and sweaty. Because I’m nervous as fuuuck! ‘Just breathe, Rukeya.’ ‘It’ll be okay.’ ‘Believe in yourself.’ ‘Everything will be ok.’ Ja’el, Yuri, and Abijah encourage me. All of my female family members were in this waiting room area with me. We were changing out of our clothes. And donning fluffy white robes, fluffy slippers, and plush white towels on our heads. My internal gurls were giving me the confidence that I need to confess what I found out to my family. I felt confident enough until my aunts started badgering me about Manny! All the good vibes and confidence I received from my gurls earlier were rapidly depleting ...

My family never sugar-coats anything. They have always been very blunt and straightforward. Rude. I knew I couldn’t do this... I heard Ja’el, Yuri, and Abijah try to cheer me up, and one of them came and began soothingly rocking me side to side. ‘No, No! Rukeya, focus okay? My gurls start chanting, ‘Yes, You Can!’ Over and over again. And I feel the confidence building up in me again. I take some deep, calming breaths and sternly tell them. “He hasn’t been screwing anything!” Of course, they don’t believe me. “Bitch, please! I’ve seen how your ass has been halfway limping every morning!” “Yeah, stop lying!” I huff, annoyed, and admit, embarrassed. “That was their... uh, his tongue. My aunt YoYo asks, “Keya, how long y’all been together?” I sigh. “It made one week, today.” She’s a hopeless romantic and nearly swoons, “Aww, puppy love!” I can’t help but laugh at the comment. Because of him being a wolf, it’s ironic that she says that, lol. My other aunts continue. “Damn, is it big?” “How long is it? He looks like he has a long tongue.” What the... how does someone look like they have a long tongue? "Come on, Bitch details!"

They call me bitch, but not out of disrespect. Being from the Ghetto, we use profanity in our everyday vocab. Like most people think it rude to call someone a bitch or a nigga. But where I live, we hear and use these terms all the time. Now, believe me, you will know when someone is calling you out of your name. Or if someone is just talking casually to you. It's all about the tone of their voice and demeanor. My aunts aren't calling me Bitch as an insult but more out of excitement, lol. It's weird I know. But anywho...

Grammy says, highly amused, "Yeah, he was talking about what that tongue was gonna do to her on Saturday." Oh goodness, Grammy, don't you feed into it. Then they'll never stop! I was growing shyer by the second and nearly yelled. "Look, I'm not about to sit and talk about how I'm in love with and afraid of his damn tongue, ok?!" Oh, their eyes and mouths were so wide. And I knew from that moment on. That I had just fucked up, jeez. Oh, they completely lost it and were so excited. Shouting over each other, all of them wanting to know the juicy details. I just broke down and told them. Because I knew they weren't gonna leave me alone about it. So I told them all about how I met him at the restaurant. How I thought about him all the time afterward. How we met again and what happened on Saturday and Sunday and Monday. But not about how he transformed, well not yet anyway.

After they calmed down some. I nervously asked, "Hey, how do y'all um, feel about Supernatural beings?" They all looked at me funny. "Super what?" "Girl, what the hell are you talking about?" I ask them. "Like Vampires, Werewolves, Angels, Demons, shit like that. How do y'all feel about them?" I looked at each of their faces thoroughly, studying them closely. I saw many conflicting emotions in their eyes. Like they knew some things but were afraid of what someone would think if they voiced them. Silenced because of peer pressure. I knew the feeling too well. They started questioning me again.

"Keya, I know that you're into those crazy ass fantasy horror movies and Stephen King books. But maybe you're letting your imagination get the better of you." "Yeah, that's just someone's imagination, gurl. Grow the fuck up!" "What do you mean, how do we feel about them? Like, do we believe in them?" I nod. "Like how would y'all feel if they were real?" I ask sincerely. I needed to know this. My favorite aunt Shenita asks me suspiciously yet seriously. "Do you think they are real?" I look her dead in her eyes and admit, "Yes. Because I've seen them." They all gasped. And I knew this was the time to tell them the truth.
