The Trustworthy Wolf
Luigi's POV
I am not sure why I am walking with this Vertina. It is probably because of the fact that she caught my eyes the moment I saw her. She's full of hope as she looked at the villages when I saw her earlier. She looks shy, though. I don't think she's aware that a light is surrounding her aura.
I wasn't aware that there is another Vertina but she looks more trustworthy than her sister lingering around our family.
She looks bothered while we are walking together. She's quiet, too. She did not say even a word while we are walking. I can sense that she is preoccupied with some sort of things. I couldn't ask her because of her serious look.
When we arrived in some sort of falls found in this forest, I smelled a familiar scent. I looked around to find its owner but he was nowhere to be found. It was my brother's scent. I am sure that it is his scent. Was he here earlier? Did he leave after noticing our presence?
No. It wasn't today; I can only smell his scent faintly. He was not here earlier, probably he was here yesterday. Is this where he's spending his time? He's letting us handle the event to just stay at this place in forest?
I shifted my gaze at Vertina, she looks disappointed...and sad.
Clary's POV
All my worries about alpha's reaction subsided when we reached the magical falls and there is no trace of him. I could tell that he did not went here, even during the time that I was away. My heart sank out of sadness. I got too attached with him that I always thought that he will be here all the time.
He is probably busy out there. He might be in the stadium now that his brother is not there. I tried to convinced myself with that excuse. I should stop myself from being so attached with him, it is not good. Look at this traitor heart, being sad for just a little reason. Come on! You could train on your own, I tried telling myself with that lie. I have no will to practice without him.
"You okay?" Beta asked in a concerned voice. I forgot that I am with him!
What a silly, woman.
I forcefully smiled and nodded.
"Have you eaten?" I asked to change the topic. I tried to act excited conceal my feeling of sadness.
He smiled back, probably convinced with the smile that I plastered earlier. I just don't want him to see me as a pitiful woman.
He shook his head. "Would you like to try?" I asked as I raised the Tupperware containing the meal that I cooked earlier.
My heart sting for the thought that the first thing that I did for alpha as a sign of gratitude for his kindness was not served to him. I cooked for him and I really want to see his expression once he tasted my dish. It was sad. I can't help but to be sad.
Beta gladly accepted the meal that I cooked. Without hesitation, he ate both the steak and vegetables. I could only watch him eat those foods, he's offering me to have some but I refused. My heart feels heavy to eat that meal which I cooked.
I laughed a little at the sight of Beta enjoying the food. He looks so easy to be with.
"Anyway, what do you do in this place?" He asked while cutting the steak into pieces before consuming it.
I looked around. The water current of the river is the same at it was before. Some of the birds are also sitting at the top of the trees. Everything is the same, except for the fact that the wolf that make it more special is not here.
"Just finding some peace." I answered while looking at my fingers.
I saw in my peripheral vision that he stopped from eating for a second and turned his gaze towards me. I could see that he is curious about something. "Don't you have any match at the stadium?"
His voice confirmed that he is curious about something I have no idea of. He sounded sincere, though. It looks to me that he has no other ulterior motives and he seems to be a trustworthy wolf.
I shrugged my shoulders and pouted my lips, "I am preparing for my next match. I lost in the last duel." I said with all honesty.
He just nodded and continued consuming the meal that I prepared.
"Is it good?" I questioned pertaining to the dish.
He immediately nodded like a child enjoying his meal. I am honored that one of the mighty wolf in our pack enjoyed my prepared food. It felt rewarding and his satisfied look made me feel more delighted. My parents don't usually give comments regarding my cooking skills, I am happy that someone liked it.
As soon as he is done eating, he arranged the Tupperware and brought it back in the silk cloth where it is initially kept.
"Would you like some help preparing for your next match?" He offered, I wasn't able to respond instantly because I am too surprise to hear him offering a help. "You mean...as a sign of gratitude for your delicious meal." He added with a beam of smile in his lips.
I waved both of my hands, being shy for his offer. "It is nothing; you don't need to pay for that."
I do not want him to waste his time helping a hopeless case like me...and someone's been helping for almost a week. I am not sure, though, if he will be continue helping me in the next days. I guess, I have to do it myself again.
He looks unconvinced with my answer.
I bowed my head and said, "it is just a small gesture for you, Beta."
He chuckled and messed up my hair.
"Call me Luigi."
