Chapter 10
Sewa listened to her mother as she spoke. She wanted to do all she was told, to think of herself first and put herself first but she was that selfless when it came to her family and selfish when it came to herself.
"You have put your sisters first for a very long time, it is time you put yourself first, it is time you focus on your life. You deprived yourself for a very long time." Her mother cried out.
Sewa took in a deep breath before she spoke, "If depriving myself from happiness gives you all happiness then I am happy. If I start thinking of myself, how would Ololade be able to live like a wealthy man's daughter in the USA? Mother Anuoluwapo is going to graduate soon from the university of Port Harcourt, if I put myself first, who would pay for her? Who would pay for Lolade's remaining school fees?"
Sewa stood up from her seat, pacing round, "Do you think just anyone can send their siblings or children abroad to study? Do you think it's easy to afford accommodation in a foreign land when you are broke? Do you think so?!" She asked exasperatedly.
"Not anyone mother and this thing I do, brings massive money for us, if today you are rich and you stop doing what you did that made you rich, do you think you will be rich forever? There is a difference between being rich and wealthy and from the last time I checked, I am not wealthy and every money I have now would finish once I stop doing what I do!" She exclaimed.
Sewa's mother shook her head, she was disappointed. Maybe Sewa made some strong points about the money aspect but there was nothing God could not do. She felt as if Sewa was hiding something for her not to think positive but believe prostitution was the only way out.
"I am disappointed!" Her mother spat out.
"Well I am not disappointed in myself!' Sewa retorted.
"The moment I stop Fu..." Sewa trailed, she realised she was about to say vulgar words in front of her mother. "I do what I do because I deem it fit for the benefit of this family. I'm sorry mother!" Her voice croaked when she said the last part.
"Let's not forget, no job I do considering I'm not a graduate would fetch me good money for the upkeep of this family, you must remember even hundred thousand naira ain't much money these days!" Sewa spat out.
She was tired of hearing the same words from her mother. This wasn't the first time her mother told her about this but she couldn't stop it for reasons they knew not of.
She had put herself in a complicated situation and the moment she tries to back out, she's going to risk her life and her family. "Mofadesewa!" Her mother called but Sewa didn't stop, she walked out of her mother into her room.
Once she got into her room, she fell to the floor and wept. She wondered how things got messy for her.
Three weeks later
Sewa used her hand to cut the chicken into pieces before placing a piece in her mouth. If there was one thing she didn't joke with, it was chicken. She licked her fingers enjoying the spice on her fingers.
"Take it easy madam, see the way you are devouring the chicken as if it's run away!" Denny said in a teasing manner. Sewa paid no attention to whatever she said, all she wanted to do was eat this chicken till she ate the bone to pieces.
"Guys we have a flight to catch o, hope you all have packed all your stuff?" Priscilla asked walking into the store.
"Don't ask me, ask Sewa, she looks so unbothered," Denny told Priscilla.
"Sewa kindly get up and let's prepare because I like punctuality, and also the senator sent the money already. I really wished we didn't have to carry those girls along," Priscilla complained.
She was referring to the girls the senator asked for at his party. "It's fine Priscilla, as long as they maintain themselves, I don't care!" Denny spat out.
"Sewa!" Both Denny and Priscilla called together making Sewa startled.
"What?!" Sewa asked with a pissed tone. "What is all this, we have to get to the airport in less than thirty minutes and you are making no attempt to move," Priscilla said to her.
"That's because I'm not going," Sewa said to her.
"What? You Say?" Priscilla asked wanting to make sure she hard Sewa correctly.
"You heard me well, I'm not going, I'm going to Lagos instead," Sewa said to her.
"Eh eh eh!" Priscilla clapped her hands, "You are going to Lagos to do what?" Priscilla asked. "You see Denny, you see what I was complaining about right? So Sewa you want to go and meet that your yeye boyfriend abi?!" Priscilla asked, raising her brows. Sewa got angry when she heard the rude remark made by Priscilla about Lanre.
"Don't go there!" Sewa yelled. "He isn't stupid nor foolish and don't you ever call him names not meant for good human beings!" Sewa warned, from the way she spoke, it showed she was really angry.
For the past three weeks, Sewa heard nothing from Lanre, he didn't call her nor did he message her. Sewa expected him to have called her after three days which was what he did whenever they fought but Lanre did none and surprisingly three weeks passed with nothing from Lanre.
She tried acting as if she wasn't affected by it but she just couldn't. Her selfish part wouldn't let her let him go, she got worried and bothered that she made an attempt to call him but her pride didn't let her do so.
She didn't have plans to go to Lagos to meet him until she saw his WhatsApp status. Lanre rarely posts pictures on his status neither does he post anything on his status but when she saw his status, she got pissed.
It was a picture of him and a young doctor, although the picture wasn't intimate or anything, she got jealous. She knew it was her plan to let him go but now she didn't want him to go.
She admitted to herself that she was selfish but if there was one thing she couldn't let go, it was Lanre.
She should be happy for him and glad he is moving on but her heart refused it so she decided to pay him a surprise visit in Lagos after all they were both in a relationship since they never called anything off.
"Now she's shouting over the guy she said she doesn't care about, you better set your priorities straight before it backfires!" Priscilla spat out with scorn.
Sewa frowned, Priscilla was someone who she didn't get too well with, although people knew there were friends, she knew deep down, Priscilla didn't really like her nor want her to make it more than her.
Sewa scoffed and walked off, she had a flight to catch to Lagos.
Sewa arrived in Lagos State past six in the evening, when she reached Lanre's house, the gate was locked. She knew he was probably at work and would come back late.
She had a convo with the gateman telling him to watch her bag while she go get something to eat. The gate man knew her and when he ushered her inside the house, she refused to, she said she would wait for him outside.
When sewa came back to Lanre's house, she was told he wasn't back yet. She waited at his gate with her bag. She suddenly felt cold, so she wrapped herself with her jacket.
It wasn't until past eleven in the night when Lanre returned home. Lanre was surprised to see Sewa standing at his gate with a bag in front of her.
He was shocked, he parked his car just in front of the gate, he came down from the car, meeting Sewa's eyes immediately.
Sewa smiled when she saw him, she expected him to be surprised but he had no expression on his face.
"What are you doing here?" Were the first words he said to her and his first question to her.
