Chapter 52
It's been three days since Lanre heard from Tunji. Lanre had a mental debate with himself on what to do next and finally came to a conclusion.
He couldn't reach Sewa no matter what method he used, so he decided to go visit her. He was nervous, all through his drive he was as he held unto the steering. His palms were sweaty, beads of sweats formed on his forehead even though the weather was cool and soothing air came into his car through the window.
Once he reached Sewa's street, he parked his car at a distance from her building. He didn't know why he should be worried yet he felt something's not right in his chest. He stood in front of her building, mentally debating to himself if he should call her to check if she's home or go to her room since he remembered it very well.
Just as he was in deep thoughts, he saw or rather a familiar person recognised him and called his name. "My friend, my friend," brother Sule waved at Lanre getting his attention. Lanre was quite familiar with the face but he couldn't remember who the man was and where he had seen him before.
Lanre had a bit of issues when it came to remembering the faces of people he had met. He needed more than three encounters to finally keep their face in his memory. That was how it was for Sewa too, she was the one that had recognised him and when he asked who she was, he knew he had seen her face but wasn't sure when.
"Long time..." He trailed off trying to play along while recollecting the face of the man in front of him. He didn't want the man to think he was being obnoxious because many had called him that whenever he forgot who they were.
"Suleiman the ladies man," brother Sule completed for him. "Ohh." Lanre finally remembered. Lanre shook his hands as brother Sule stretched his hands forward for an handshake.
"How are you? I see you are here, what brings you here if you do not mind me asking?" Brother Sule asked. Lanre rubbed the back of his neck with his hands as he thought of a perfect excuse other than mentioning Sewa's name.
"Oh...the thing is..." Lanre trailed off looking for the perfect words to say. "I..." He cleared his throat making brother Sule raise his brows in a questioning manner. "You...what?" Just then Sewa was seen coming towards her house building. Lanre heaved a deep sigh once he saw her. She looked simple yet exquisite. She was in a jean pinafore dress with a white polo shirt inside. She recently braided her hair as the line of hair was neat and shiny even from afar. Sewa hadn't noticed them as she searched for something in her bag, almost waking past them before brother Sule stopped her.
"My beautiful wife," brother Sule voiced, stopped Sewa as she halted on her trail, bringing her head up to look at him. Her heart flipped once she saw Lanre in front of her looking good as always.
"Hey," Lanre said awkwardly, his heart beating erratically as he greeted her. He felt so nervous around her making him when he started courting her those days. "My dear Sewa, you are looking extravagant with a simple outfit. I'm so proud my phone money is working on you," brother Sule complimented. While he was speaking, neither Sewa nor Lanre paid attention to his words as they were both staring at one another with a very familiar feeling inside of them.
It wasn't after some seconds, brother Sule observed the situation. He stared at both Sewa and Lanre and then thoughts occurred to him. "Am I missing something by chance?" Brother Sule asked about getting the attention of both people.
Sewa was startled a bit but recollected herself. She smiled, "I'm sorry for not introducing this man to you the other night. Brother Sule Lanre over here used to be my boyfriend" Brother Sule eyes popped out like that of an owl. He was really surprised by the news he just heard yet he had so much in his mind but decided to ignore and give them privacy.
"Oh, I see." He muttered.
"Ola you remember him right?" She asked Lanre and he nodded his head.
"I see you guys want to talk. I will be going to see my other wives. And also Mr, Sewa is my wife," Brother Sule joked before leaving the both of them together.
Sewa who thought she was on her way to forgetting Lanre realised she hadn't now that he was standing in front of her in a jogger and white polo shirt. His neatly undercut hairstyle looked so perfect as if it was made just for him. "Long time," Lanre greeted trying to ease the tension between them.
"Oh," Sewa muttered in short of words. She recalled the last time she dialed his number and the lady who answered his phone. She felt she was doing something wrong yet she didn't know why she felt so.
"Are you busy?" Lanre asked Sewa obviously in short of words just as she was. Sewa got speechless because the conversation between them was just too awkward.
"I'm not really busy, just that..." The thought that Denny and Pearl might be coming back soon bothered her. She didn't want Lanre to meet their daughter yet, not now as she didn't have much explanation for him nor did she want to ruin his relationship with his girlfriend.
"Do you have something to say to me, I'm pretty much busy," she said.
"Not that. You didn't call after promising to, what happened? Your line is unreachable too, did something happen?" He asked her inquisitively.
The skin between Sewa's brows creased as she looked at Lanre. She wondered why his girlfriend had not told him of her call but then she decided to ignore. "Something happened. So..." She trailed off.
"What do you have to do today?" Lanre asked her.
"Nothing much. I'm....do you want something perhaps?" She asked Lanre.
"I was wondering if you would like to go out with me?" He finally blurted out.
"Me? Why?" She wondered why he wanted to go out with her when he had a girlfriend. She began to wonder if he was trying to play her just like she did to him years ago. Her heart sank from her thought and her stomach churned.
She felt her chest aching and her eyes threatening to bring out salty water. She bit her inner cheek to control her emotions. Her eyes flickered with tears but she forced a smile to her face.
"Nothing. You know it's been long. Catching up and..." Sewa cuts him off.
"Okay." She said. She only said yes because she didn't want Denny and Pearl coming to meet them and she said yes because she wanted him to play her just like he did, maybe then he'd be satisfied and she'd be able to move on.
"I will go out on a date with you."
