Chapter 60
As Lanre drove to Sewa's place, he recalled his last conversation with his older brother.
As soon as Adunni left, Lanre opened his mouth to say something to Tunji but was cut off by him.
"Hold it!" He said through gritted teeth.
The skin between his brows creased, "I am so disappointed in you." He spat out.
"I do not want to hear from you, not at all. Just how do you think mother will react to this Lanre?" He asked Lanre with bewilderment.
Lanre was very well aware of his mother's despise for Sewa but he knew she would later agree on the long run. He was ready to take the risk, knowing well it would take more than a year or two to convince his mother but he first needed to convince Tunji first.
"I love her. Tunji I would really appreciate it if you show your support. Your support matters to me at alot." Lanre pleaded.
Tunji laughed hysterically, finding his brother's word funny. He scoffed and then he clicked his tongue. "You what? My support? My support is for Adunni and not for that girl. I can never like her and I will never like her and I'd appreciate it if you realise and do the needful before you regret it."
"I won't regret it. Like Tunji, I love..." Tunji cuts him off harshly.
"That woman has a child! A child whose father she definitely does not know because she sleeps around with many that she can keep count of!" Tunji exclaimed.
"Her daughter is a bastard!" Tunji spat out.
"My daughter is not a bastard," Lanre retorted.
Tunji laughed out so loud that anyone would mistake him for someone on the edge of losing his sanity. "Your daughter?" He scoffed
"You are already accepting her child even when you are not married to her? You are under the influence of black magic and that's fine Lanre because I will have to take this case seriously because this is becoming spiritual!"
"I.am.sane!" Lanre said as calmly as she could. He didn't want to raise his voice while speaking to older brother because he knew there would be no result at the end.
"Her daughter is mine. That girl is not a bastard," Lanre defended.
"Really? Wait till mother hears of this. Wait till we have to tie you with rope and take you to every man of God house to deliver you!"
Lanre walked closer to his brother, "You might not believe it but Pearl is really mine. She is my child." Lanre explained, hoping his brother would listen.
"Tsk, tsk, tsk... Is that what she told you? If so I wouldn't blame her. She knows you are a fool and it was easy to convince a fool like you into being a father of a bastard!" Tunji spat out. Lanre clenched his fist. He took in a deep breath and breathed out to keep his temper at bay.
"How about we conduct a DNA test and you see for yourself!" Lanre suggested.
Tunji folded his arms across his chest, "Really? That's definitely not gonna happen. She will find her way and bribe the doctors into changing the results!"
"How would she do that? It's just impossible, she would need a very strong connection which I know she doesn't have."
"You are so foolish! She is Jasmine James, Port Harcourt finesse. She is connected and connection is her!"
"She was Jasmine James. Her name is Mofadesewa," Lanre defended.
"You are so foolish, aren't you? She was Jasmine James, her name is Mofadesewa," Tunji mimicked in an annoying babyish voice.
"What if the result turns out negative Lanre, will you leave her? Because at this rate I feel she has blackmailed you with the thought that you are the child's father. So tell me, what if you are not?" Tunji asked.
"What if I am. Would you approve of us?" Lanre retorted.
Tunji placed his hand on his jaw as he thought through his brother's words. "Okay then, if it is, I will give up and wish you the best of luck but I'm sorry I won't be blessing your marriage."
Lanre heaved a sigh, at last they were getting somewhere.
.
When the result came out, Tunji found out Lanre was indeed the father of pearl. He found it hard to believe. He walked out of the hospital when he saw it, avoiding any questions from Lanre.
Lanre had not told Sewa of his DNA test behind her back as he didn't want her to feel he didn't trust her, reason he did so.
Lanre left Tunji for that day to get his thoughts together and went to meet him the next day. He literally went on his knees begging for his brother's approval.
Tunji loved his brother and although it would take a long time for him to finally accept Sewa, he gave in but his words were; if by chance you ever come to me to complain about your regrets, I will kill you.
Lanre kept that word in his heart but rejoiced and thanked the Lord for changing his brother's mind. Having his brother's approval meant it wouldn't be hard to convince his mother.
Sewa held pearl in her hands as she walked towards Lanre's car. He texted her to tell her he was outside her building a minute ago.
He was elated seeing them together. A big grin formed on his face when she saw Pearl's beautiful face; she was the complete replica of her mother but the cute version. He never thought any other woman apart from Sewa would stun him so much.
"Pearl say Good morning," Sewa tells Pearl and she did as told.
"Good morning," Pearl said.
He and Pearl have seen each other before but Sewa had told him to give her time before she would tell Pearl he was her daddy. He came to visit Sewa last week with candy, toys and foodstuffs for Pearl and that was how he stylishly took a strand of her hair while she was sleeping.
Pearl paid no attention to him nor to her mother as she wrapped her little arms around her mother's neck. Lanre found it cute and also wanted to feel how it would be like having his daughter in his arms.
"Happy Easter," he finally greeted Sewa, moving closer to kiss her on her cheek.
She blushed, "Same love," she whispered when she called him love. She felt butterflies dance in the pit of her belly from his touch.
He opened his car for her, letting Pearl and her inside before he got in and drove off.
They arrived at Apapa amusement park and as usual, the place was bustling. Screams of people in the merry-go-round could be heard and Pearl was elated.
"Mummy, I want to ride that," she pointed at the carousel. "I want to ride on the horse," she pleaded.
Lanre walked to join the queue to get the card for the rides. After waiting for a while, he finally returned. When he came back, Pearl and Sewa were eating candy floss. Sewa had an extra one in her hand meant for him.
He shook his head and Sewa frowned. "Just this once and you won't die," she tells him.
Lanre wasn't a fan of eating junks or anything having much sugar. He collected it from Sewa's hand and took a bite then gave them to Sewa to eat. "Do not make her take in too much sugar, it's not good for her health."
Sewa ignored him, "Which of the rides do you want to go on first Pearl?" Sewa asked her. Pearl pointed towards the merry-go-round. "I'm afraid not Pearl, you are too young. We could go for rides for kids, okay?"
Lanre felt a warm feeling in the pit of his stomach having Pearl in his arms. Her palm felt warm against his cheek and he loved it. He smiled, "What are you doing?" He asked her as she pinched his cheek.
"Nothing," she shrugged with a smile. Her brows furrowed when she did so and he found it cute.
"What's your name?" Pearl asked him and he smiled.
"Tell me your name first," Lanre asked.
"It's not fair. I asked first. Tell me your name?"
"Tell me yours first and I will tell you mine."
After they left the amusement Park, Lanre didn't want to part ways with them already and suggested going to his house.
"My name is Pearl, now tell me yours," she demanded in a way Lanre thought was cute. At a very young age, she showed some of her mother's fierce attitude.
"If you do not tell me, I will just ask my mummy," she said her word one after the other. Just then, Sewa walked to the living room. She had gone to take her bath.
Lanre swallowed a painful lump in his throat once he saw her wearing his shirt. Her long legs were so seductive and his mind trailed off to what she had in-between her legs.
"Mummy, what's his name?" He was snapped back to reality by Pearl's cute voice.
"Call him daddy," Sewa said, Lanre's heart flipped.
He wasn't expecting her to say it soon or tell Pearl like this. "Daddy? Is he my daddy?" She asked him and Sewa nodded her head.
She made movements to Lanre and Pearl and sat down beside Lanre. "Pearl, he is your daddy, you hear me? Whenever you see him, call him daddy," She tells Pearl with a smile on her face.
"Daddy? You are my daddy," Pearl giggled. She was just a child who found the word daddy to be fun.
"Will Daddy be with us forever?" Pearl asked.
"Sure. Forever," Lanre replied.
"Pearl, look at the TV," Lanre tells her and she did as told. While Pearl turned her attention to the TV, Lanre leaned in and kissed Sewa on her lips unaware. Her heart skipped from his unaware stunt and a smile crept on her face.
"I love you," he whispered.
He pulled her closer to him as he wrapped his arms around her with his right and his left hand holding Pearl firmly.
"Mummy I want to sleep," Pearl said to Sewa after a long while.
"Mummy let's go and sleep," she added.
Sewa smiled, "Okay, mummy will put you to bed," she tells Pearl.
"Mummy, me and you will sleep right?" Pearl asked. She was used to lying beside her mother.
While Pearl was watching the TV, Sewa and Lanre were busy doing sneaky things but hadn't gone further because of Pearl. Lanre felt a gush of relief when Pearl said she wanted to sleep but frowned when he heard her tell Sewa to go to bed with her.
Sewa and Lanre locked eyes and he pleaded with his eyes that she turned Pearl down. "Pearl, mummy will join you later." She caresses Pearl's cheek.
"Daddy," Pearl turned her attention to Lanre. Lanre heart flipped hearing her call him daddy, he was sure it would take him a long time to get used to it.
"Tell mummy to sleep with me," She said and Lanre coughed lightly.
"Mummy won't sleep with you. Mummy will sleep beside you because mummy can only sleep with daddy," he explained.
Sewa placed her hand on mouth from Laughing. She couldn't believe Lanre just said that. "What does that even mean?" Pearl asked, clearly confused by Lanre's word.
"When you grow up my darling daughter."
Lanre was finding it hard to move where he was. Pearl was lying in-between Sewa and him with her eyes wide open.
"Mummy when you want to close your eyes, tell me so I can too, okay." She said.
Lanre wasn't liking it, he wasn't liking she wanted her mother to sleep first before she did. It wasn't just Lanre who found it hard but Sewa too. She was horny, they were both yearning for each other's touch.
Their eyes bored one another, neither attempting to look away while paying less attention to whatever Pearl was saying.
"Pearl, how about you sleep first and mummy will," Sewa said.
"Mummy let's close our eyes together," Pearl suggested and Sewa heaved a sigh.
"Okay." She said closing her eyes. She wasn't sleeping, she was only doing that so Pearl can sleep and once she does, she and Lanre will get back to adult business.
"How about I meet your mother this weekend?" Lanre spoke. He was driving Sewa and Pearl back to her place. He didn't like the fact he had to see them off when he could just have them with him every time.
"Sure." She said.
"Sewa," he called.
"Uhm," she answered.
After their adult business last night to this morning, he proposed to her in the most unexpected way.
He told her, he would make sure to propose in a very fancy way but he wanted her to know of his intention.
"Are you having two tho..." Sewa cuts him off.
"Lanre does not think so. I do not need you to do extravagant things for me. I would love to be by your side, to be your woman and to walk down the same path as you. I'm just worried about...about your brother." She finally voiced her worries.
There was no way Tunji would accept her, she thought. Lanre smiled, "Worry not. Tunji is well aware of our affairs and doesn't mind." He assured her.
"You are joking right?" She raised her brows in a questioning manner.
"I'm not. Sewa once you are sure of what you want with me. After meeting your mother, we will meet mine and finalize everything."
A lone tear rolled down her cheek. She wondered what she did in her past life to deserve a man like Lanre in her life. Lanre notices and becomes worried, "Did I say something wrong?" He asked her.
"Not at all. I'm just grateful. I'm lucky to have you and I can proudly say I am lucky to have you because a man like you is rare. I haven't been the very best, I haven't done much but you..." Lanre cuts her off.
"Shh...it's fine. We are both lucky to have one another."
