CHAPTER 49
Lisa's POV
I was unable to get any rest that night. I became Damien's night watchman because I was afraid that anything might happen to him at night.
I didn't bring my phone, so I had nothing to occupy me. I grabbed onto Damien till daylight and put my head on his chest to make sure he was still breathing because I kept having crazy fantasies about some strange monster coming through the windows and snatching him away from this place.
living yet.
My delight has no limits.
First, because his mother will hold me responsible for any mishaps, and second, because I want him to live through whatever it is that is consuming him and that he refuses to discuss with me.
Evidently, everyone else is aware of his and Helena's love story.
All through the night, I couldn't stop thinking about the choice I had to make, and now I know the answers.
I need to go to work. I was given a job by no one. I won't get compensated for this task, but I'm hoping Damien will recover from it.
Before I can stand to stretch my body, a knock arrives on the door. I answer, "Come in," thinking that it is the doctor who visited Damien last night after he had already slept off to check on him.
Without Sabrina, Gabriel enters as the door opens.
I wish she were here to comfort me once again. I sobbed harder, but their reassuring comments really made me feel better.
It helped me recognize that my negative opinion of her stemmed from the way she behaved that evening.
He says, "Good morning", and walks up to me. He comes to a halt and looks at me. "Don't tell me you didn't get any sleep."
I murmur gently, "You don't look like someone who did too," and then I turn to gaze at Damien, who is stirring in his slumber.
Lightly chuckling, Gabriel. The statement "I slept."
It was "You didn't."
"Well, Sabrina is to blame for it. When we arrived home yesterday night, she started to scream out that the baby needed chicken stew, so I had to cook it for her.
I hesitate, yet I can't help but chuckle.
I don't mind becoming buddies with these two since they are the drama world's King and Queen. In reality, Sabrina and I want to be friends. a companion with advantages. I'm going to use her to acquire my puzzle solutions. I'll get her to ask Gabriel on my behalf if she doesn't already know.
He won't tell me if I ask, I'm sure of that. His allegiance is to Damien, and Damien would never want him to tell me anything about his background.
The questioning of his father would also be improper. They should have told me about it last night when I told them he became angry when I questioned him about Helena if they wanted me to know.
I start to think of Mrs. Russell. I should go before she arrives since I don't have the strength to deal with her and I know she's coming soon.
As he observes his friend's sleeping face, he continues to think to himself, "Damien is a strong man." "I am in awe of his strength."
What does he mean by being powerful, I want to know. What does he mean by these odd words?
Damien stirs once more, and his eyes flicker open to see me. He slowly transfers them to Gabriel as a grin spreads over his face.
His voice cracks, "I thought you left," he says. I swiftly go to my feet to assist him as he struggles to sit up.
He responds, "Thank you," and I nod in agreement.
Gabriel said, "I just got here," as I leaned back in the chair and considered my choice and how to explain it to him.
It won't be a great issue to discuss the fact that we are just legally married to each other in Gabriel's presence since he is already aware of this.
"How was your night?" I asked.
"It was good,"
"Are you hungry?" Damien shakes his head in response to his question. "Lisa told us that you haven't been eating well."
I wish I could tell what Damien is thinking of me right now, but I can't tell as he observes me.
He adds quietly, "Don't worry, I'll eat when I'm hungry.
He closes his eyes and leans his head on the headboard as silence descends.
Was Sabrina already expecting when we last met? Gabriel appears just as astonished as I am when he asks out of the blue.
He makes a tongue-clicking "yes" sound without uttering anything else.
Opening his eyes, Damien. So why didn't you tell me then? I ought to have called and congratulated her.
He casually shrugs. "Now that you know."
"Don't act foolishly!" Gabriel chuckles as Damien growls at him.
"I didn't intentionally tell you. I am aware that you dislike such subjects, so there is no point for me to tell you now what you will eventually learn once the belly begins to expand. I like to inform someone who would appreciate our efforts, but I can't tell you since you don't enjoy the subject of infants.
Damien has a frown on his face while Gabriel is grinning. Suddenly, he seems depressed.
Actually, I think that what Gabriel stated has more depth than I first thought. If I were told the same thing, I would also be wounded. Gabriel, though, is not to blame. Why should Damien be told first when the subject of babies is something he dislikes?
Gabriel says "I'm sorry" after understanding what he said had upset his buddy.
Damien shakes his head dismissively and says, "No, it's nothing," but I can see behind his expression. He is wounded deep down.
I just don't want to revive unpleasant memories.
Damien sighed and firmly closed his eyes. He clearly doesn't want to discuss the recollections, either the pleasant or the terrible.
There is undoubtedly a problem, and I need to identify it. But I need to get stuff done first.
I started talking and phoned, trying to divert the subject. "Damien."
He turns to face me, but his expression is hidden. Saying "I'm sorry."
He then says nothing, and I start to believe that he is still trying to ignore me. "It's okay,"
It doesn't seem sincere. He employed the identical one for his pal. He's still upset with me, but I've got a fix for that. There must be a method that will end this and stop his mother from detesting me.
"I sincerely apologize for my carelessness and for stepping out of bounds."
"It's okay. He dismisses it with a sweep of his hand and says, "Let's forget it already, please.
I would have stopped talking if I had nothing more to say, but I still have more to say. His Mother won't meet me here since I still have something to say to him before heading home.
I can't guarantee that I'll answer her this time. I've had it with being the idiot. If she speaks more than she should, I'll inform her spouse of what she did.
Even though I know I won't see her again, in today morning, I want to stay out of trouble.
She offered me a million bucks to leave Damien, but I declined it. If we meet later in the day or at night, I will tell everyone about it.
If I were a gold digger, I would do whatever to take advantage of that chance, accept the money, and go from New York to a remote location where no one would ever find me and I could live happily ever after with my Grandma.
Gabriel, will you kindly assist me in getting to the workplace today? Please ask Anna to come home later tonight at the day's end after you pick up a few items for me.
Do you anticipate being released today? Asks Gabriel to him. He has to stay in bed for the whole week, according to the doctor, which surprises me as well.
He responds, "Yes, I have a lot of work to do," and Gabriel shakes his head.
"No, you should take a nap. Gabriel instructs him, "You may go on from where you left off once you are up on your feet.
He shakes his head from time to time. "No, I'm sorry.
I interrupted him and said, "Damien, I have something to tell you." I may not be able to speak it if I hold back any longer.
I swallow the feeling of fear lodged in my throat before taking a huge gulp as they both turn to face me.
I can handle this.
I must take action.
The question "What is it?" He asks hastily, his expression grim.
I take another swallow before responding. "I'm going."
For a moment, there is silence while I scan the room from Damien, who seems perplexed, to Gabriel, who is delighted.
Did I say anything unclear or humorous?
"What? Where are we heading? Damien enquires.
"I'm divorcing you and this marriage. I apologize that this can't go on. I don't want to make you any worse or have your mother cry any harder. She despises me, and I don't see why I should continue to irritate you every minute when this isn't even true. I'm sorry, but this is the only answer I can think of. Perhaps you wouldn't be in bed right now and instead would be at work if I hadn't brought up Helena. I am going because I feel responsible for your predicament. You won't be reminded of your past, your failure, or anything else that's bothering your heart if I go.
Gabriel is staring at you with his mouth open in disbelief.
I immediately rise up and apologize, vowing to stick to my choice.
I approach the door and open it to leave.
"Lisa!" I ignore his loud appeal and go for the exit, determined to depart just as I promised.
