CHAPTER 51
Lisa's POV
Damien's house is much larger and more gorgeous than Gabriel's. The front yard includes a sizable pool, which has me agog with wonder.
Gabriel breaks the tense stillness between us that has existed since we left Damien's estate as soon as he parks the vehicle in the driveway.
"You know I'm curious?" As he opens the vehicle door, he remarks in an unassuming manner. He descends, and I follow suit.
He turns around and stands in front of me when he gets to the opposite side.
He really is intrigued.
I shrug in response to his comment "I don't think you and my wife are friends and I'm surprised that you asked to come here of all places."
I don't need to explain to him why I'm here. I came over to see them both. I ought to see them together now that he is present as well. Gabriel undoubtedly knows all the answers; Sabrina may not know everything.
He sighs and slumps his shoulders in disappointment as soon as he realizes I am silent.
He points to the front door and says, "Go on inside." In two hours, I'll return to take you up.
I recall Damien telling him to watch out for me. Is Gabriel certain that I won't flee?
"Gabriel?" He is prevented from returning to the wheel by my call. He pauses and makes a gradual turn around to face me. Please hold on. I came here to speak with both of you.
For a moment, bewilderment can be seen on his forehead. You came here to speak with Sabrina and I, right? I nod. The question "What for?"
Although it may seem impossible, I am confident in my actions and the purpose of my visit. I can be friends with Sabrina, just not right now.
He nods and passes by me toward the front door while I remain silent. Without having time to pause and take in the courtyard, I immediately follow.
We both enter after the door opens from the back. In response to the butler's bow of welcome, I grinned.
We take a long time to go to the living room via walking. There aren't as many servants here as there are at Damien's home.
Gabriel gestures toward the sofa. While I go fetch her, you may relax here.
"Who is here with us?" Sabrina emerges in a pregnancy robe and speaks to us from the stairway.
I try not to giggle while I roll my eyes. If I'm not incorrect, she is just a month pregnant since the belly isn't showing yet and she is already dressed in a maternity gown.
She may wear pregnant jeans tomorrow, and I won't be shocked.
I laugh to myself as she enters her husband's arms.
How is the infant doing?
With her hands around his head, she responds, "Stubborn just like his father." I observe them for a bit until an unintentional grin develops on my face. I immediately brush it off once they move away.
"Lisa?" Sabrina approaches me. She reclines on the sofa next to me and looks at me. "I can't believe you're here, how are you?"
I respond with a smile, "I'm good.
"How is Damien doing these days? I'm hoping he's okay. Gabriel also takes a seat as she requests.
He tells his wife, "He's already gone home," and she exhales before turning to face me once again.
Is that accurate?
"Yes."
I just want to discuss the reason I am here; nothing else is off-limits. Gabriel gets there before I can tell Sabrina about it.
Lisa is here to discuss something with both of us. She shows confusion as he responds, "I have no clue what that is.
Is everything all right? When Sabrina asks me a question, I nod while an unwelcome knot forms in my throat.
I'm very afraid.
Before coming here, I didn't give this notion any consideration. So that we could converse openly, I was instructed to make sure Sabrina was alone herself and not with her husband.
I honestly don't understand why I feel uneasy right now considering that I specifically requested Gabriel to wait for me.
Will they discover the answers to my inquiries? What if they are unaware?
I spring upright when Sabrina's fingertips brush across mine, our eyes meeting. Her countenance conveys anxiety, as I can see. Is everything all right?
I chuckle deeply as I nod. I take a long sigh and open my mouth. "I'm here to look for solutions. First, as quickly as I can, I blurt out, "I want to know who Helena is.
I exhale with relief after the words are out.
Before her hands leave mine, Sabrina casts a quick peek at her expressionless husband's face. Sabrina reclines on the sofa while Gabriel avoids my sight.
At this point, I realize Sabrina must be aware of this as well. Perhaps Gabriel had informed her when she sought to pair Damien and her buddy. Is this the reason they failed?
Please Gabriel, I truly need to know. Without understanding what he wants to hear and what he doesn't, I can't be there with him any longer. I don't simply intend to be married to him and leave in a year. I want to assist him. Even though I'm convinced he cares about her, I still want to confirm my suspicions and learn what transpired and where she could be. They must be together once again, please. She is more important than ever for Damien. He doesn't need me.
Except for the audible thumping of my heart, silence gradually descended.
Their heads are lowered, and they are not looking at me.
What is going on?
"Gabriel…."
He says, "She's dead," and it takes me some time to register that in my mind. He nearly seems to be talking about someone else, but that is impossible. He's not the jovial Gabriel I know right now. He's dead serious, man.
"What?!" I yell out in shock.
Helena passed away. You are the one Damien needs; he doesn't need her.
I reply, "He still adores her." "I believed that by reuniting them, I could assist him."
Again, there is silence, and my eyes start to weep. That's it. He is attempting to conceal his repulsive history. Is there a deeper story here?
I already sense his suffering. the suffering caused by losing a loved one. similar to how I too lost my parents. It hurt a lot. I suffered for years. It was difficult to proceed so rapidly. I persisted in clinging to the past since I did not think that it would last forever.
Years passed before I finally realized what dying really meant. It implies that I will never again see them in person. It implies that we won't ever collaborate again. It implies that we would never be able to return one other's affection. It implies that we would never be able to laugh or grin together once again.
It is significant.
The realization that my parents were gone forever and would never be seen again hit me like a bulldozer, and I almost lost hope that night.
Even after surviving that night, I sobbed every night before going to sleep. I am still when I stroll throughout the day. Everything I do makes me think about them, yet the possibility of running into them again has vanished due to reality.
Living with the discomfort was so difficult.
Jayden is experiencing exactly this right now. He doesn't want to get married because of this. He is hurting himself because of this. And for this reason, he is incapable of loving another woman.
Gabriel starts, "Helena was his fiancee," and I instantly turn to face him. She embodied virtue in every way. She was gracious, lovely, charming, and kind. Helena was adored by everyone, with the exception of Damien's mother, despite her antisocial ways and austere demeanor. She gave little thought to her mother-in-law's alleged animosity against her. She pays them a weekly visit, assists the housekeepers with their work, and even buys her father- and mother-in-law gifts.
He adds, "But there was one other issue. She didn't want Damien to go in the same direction as his dad. She despised Damien's tenacity and drive to take on his opponents. Helena was opposed to his being the Mafia Leader. A month after being married, they had a fight, and that night she departed. Damien didn't immediately pursue her when she left due to his haughtiness. She was speeding down the road because she was furious with him. He contacted me after some time, when he was calm, and requested me to check on her at her apartment, but she wasn't there. When I informed him, he started to worry. Before we saw her lying motionless on the road heading to her home from Damien's residence, she had looked everywhere. When we arrived, she was still alive but unable to communicate with Damien. When she passed away, the pain was still there in her eyes.
My eyes are already leaking tears.
He says, "She passed away while carrying his child in her womb," and I start to cry.
God, oh God! No!" I sob as I imagine how difficult it must have been for Damien to forgive himself and put the incident behind him.
I can't help but cry when I consider my irrational fantasy. He must have experienced trauma. They were unable to settle their disagreements prior to her passing away. He must have found it really difficult.
I had no idea.
I was ignorant of her passing. I had no idea that he had deeper feelings for kids. He is more broken than I can even fathom, which I didn't know, but now I do.
Now that I am aware of the issue's nature and source, I am certain that I have a fix.
I can tell Gabriel will be upset as soon as he gets up to leave the living room since he must be thinking back on that awful and traumatic night.
His wife hugs me as I see him turn around and go.
I start to sob once again as a result of my inexperience and fresh realization of what happened to Damien in the past.
