Katherine Thrones
About an hour after I had texted Alexander, I heard a knock on my door and I instantly knew it was him. A beam of a smile lit up my face immediately and I jumped out of my seat, closing up my study textbooks and literally sprinting towards the door. But then I paused, an internal wave of conflict overcoming me.
Did I look good?
The knock came again.
"I'm coming!" I replied hastily and then returned back to what was on my mind—I most likely looked like shit and I knew Alexander was coming over, why didn't I clean myself up?
Well, there's no more time for a total life–changing makeover session, so I'll just do some last-minute quick touch-ups.
I raced back into my bedroom and panicked, looking around the perimeter to know what I was going to do first. My top; I have to change this stupid, boring, polo. Dashing into my closet, I went straight to the shopping bags I had piled in front of my wardrobe.
I went shopping this afternoon because someone had said my clothes were boring and I got this absolutely beautiful pink top that flattered my body so much, it also showed a little bit of my lower belly. I can wear that over the black joggers I have on.
After I quickly put it on the top and the next destination was the mirror. By this time, Alexander was about to pull down my door with his persistent knocking.
"Katherine? Are you okay? Why aren't you opening up?" He questioned as he knocked.
"Uh, I'll be out in a minute," I yelled back and focused on what I was doing in the mirror—my hair, I pulled it back into a ponytail because they said it's flattering when your collarbones are exposed. And then the last stop was eyeliner, 'to make my eyes pop', according to Katie.
Now the problem with this little pen is that it can turn out to be quite demonic, and that's because I can't seem to figure out how the other girls can apply it without repeatedly blinking and messing it up!
I was trying my best to get the simple line right. At that same time, Alexander's knock came in again and distracted me, which caused me to mess up with the eyeliner and I had what looked like a….. zig–zag, on my face.
Long story short, I look hideous. There wasn't any time to clean it off with wipes as I couldn't even remember where I kept them. Alexander's knocks were about to tear down my apartment, I can't stall him anymore.
So I rushed out of my bedroom, grabbing a napkin and trying to wipe off the eyeliner and when I was done, I threw the napkin, not caring where it landed and then I finally opened up the door for Alexander.
His hand was frozen mid–air, he was just about to tender another knock before I opened the door. But that's not the only thing that froze, his whole body paused, and then in a moment, he broke into a crazy fit of laughter and I was honestly so confused.
"Why are you laughing?" I asked self–consciously with furrowed brows but he was still laughing.
My hands clipped my waist, and my feet tapped the floor impatiently waiting for him to finish relishing in his hysteria.
"I'm so sorry Katherine, but I don't know what you have all over your face, it's hilarious!" He never could stop laughing and he just spoke amidst it.
My heart immediately started to do somersaults, I hope it wasn't what I was thinking… I quickly dashed to the mirror in my living room and saw the hideousness displayed on my face.
In the process of what I had thought was cleaning off the eyeliner with a napkin, I had actually accidentally smeared it all over my face. All over my face. Everything I worked for to leave an impression on Alexander had thoroughly backfired.
I walked back to the door defeated and mortified. Alex had stopped laughing now but when I came back to view, he broke out into another laughter but tried to subdue it and it became a snicker. I stared at him, unamused, and when he saw that, he awkwardly cleared his throat and stopped laughing.
"Aren't you gonna clean that off?" He motioned to the fashion disaster on my face.
"No." I deadpanned.
"Okay."
I opened the door further for him and he entered into the living room, I could hear him chuckling behind me and I rolled my eyes. Then we both sat down on my couch.
"I'm surprised you came so fast, aren't your parents like about seventy–five minutes away?" I pointed out as he relaxed further into the seat.
"Yeah, but I had to drive like super–fast because someone can't simply do without me." He said with a cheeky grin and I rolled my eyes.
"I just asked if you were coming home soon, it's not like I was asking you to come over…" I trailed, not being able to look him in the eye while blatantly lying.
He chuckled, "Oh please Katherine, I've dealt with so many girls to know that whenever they ask 'if you're coming home soon', it means they—" Alexander paused when he saw how let–down my face was and I quickly wiped the expression away, I honestly didn't mean for it to slip out but it's kinda hard to keep such feeling in when your boyfriend—I mean Alex—just brought up the topic of 'other girls he's been with.
"I'm sorry Katherine, I didn't mean to—"
"It's fine Alex. Rub it in my face that you've been with so many different damsels." I stated with a sassy tone and rolled my eyes, folding my arms.
"Oh come on Katherine, or should I say Kathya," Alexander said, scooting closer to me and putting his hand around me, and squeezing my cheek slightly as he tried to cheer me up. But my brain was more focused on his hands around my shoulders. Did I forget to mention how sumptuous he looked tonight?
He was wearing a blue trouser and white shirt which he had unbuttoned the first two buttons, and as for his hair—he gave it this 'I just got out of bed' handsome ruffled style and I haven't been able to take my eyes off him ever since.
And now his hand is around me.
"I'm sorry, okay?" He apologized with one of those charming smiles of his and I couldn't help it anymore with the anger, his smile was hella contagious and I found myself smiling too.
"That's my girl!" He said and my smile broadened and then I did something that up till this day, I'm still honestly shocked— I leaned into his shoulders and rested my head there. It was only after I had mindlessly done it, that I remembered and it seemed like Alexander was shocked too by it, with the way he flinched back a bit.
But he said nothing and we stayed there like that; his hands were now around my back, bringing me closer to him and my head on his shoulders. I shut my eyes and enjoyed the moment, it felt so natural. It felt like that was the place I was meant to be, in his arms. And I welcomed that feeling, I welcomed that thought of maybe Alex and Katherine were meant to be.
Alexander's chuckle broke me out of my thoughts and I opened my eyes to see him looking at me and laughing.
"What?" I questioned with marred brows.
"I just can't take you seriously if you don't wipe off that thing on your face." He chuckled and I found myself laughing along as well.
"Come on, let's go make dinner," I said amidst my laughter, then stood up from the couch and pulled him up. Our eyes met as he came up, and in that moment the essence of our gazes poured into each other's, butterflies welled up in my stomach and a peculiar feeling overwhelmed my chest.
It was in that second I knew that I was already far gone and turning back at this point, maybe too late.
