Chapter 14: Morning excitement
I looked at my outfits, trying to think what mood I felt in. Cute, sexy, bad-ass, basic, comfy? I decided for black jeans, black biker boots and a tight burgundy red spaghetti strap top. I did feel bad-ass although my boobs were definitely a bit on show. I did my hair and make up, letting my long brown hair fall down my back in soft waves and putting on light make up. I let Kenna know I was ready early and she sent me three shocked faced emojis and said she was on her way.
“Woohoo Tris you slay today!!” Kenna shouted to me from the car. I put my sunglasses on and ruffled my hair for extra effect and she beeped her horn three times. I laughed and got in. She came over and gave me a big hug. “I'm so sorry about what happened on Friday, the fucking psycho will get what's coming to him. And I'm also so happy about your mom.” Kenna said in my hair. “Thanks, Ken. I'm okay and I'm so happy that mom is okay. I won't walk back home alone anymore.” I said, hugging her back. I sat back and looked over at Kenna. She was wearing her favourite summer dress, light blue with soft yellow flowers with a plunging neckline. “Kenna. You look amazing today. You have a glow about you.” I said to her. She blushed, started the car and drove off. “I may have or may not have texted James last night..” She said shyly. I gasped. “Kenna! Shut the front door. By the looks of it, it wasn't an innocent 'hey how are you, can I copy your notes' kinda conversation?” I responded excitedly. “Hahaha, no, we had a good chat. We danced on Friday, I think. We were sending pictures to each other.” Kenna said, while putting music on. I gasped again. “Pictures!!!!!! What a love story. Are these pictures PG?” I asked Kenna. “Yeah, you know me. No nudes over text but... They were fun...” Kenna said and I could tell she didn't want to elaborate. “Alright, I'm very happy for you. Maybe soon you guys can go on a date, or we can go on a group date and push you guys together.” I said with a sly smile on my face.
Kenna laughed and put the music louder, putting Wrong by Zayn and Kehlani on and we both started swaying and focused on getting to school. When we were almost at the school, I noticed a black Maserati driving behind us. I looked into the mirror but the windows were tinted and I couldn't see the driver.
“Javier text me.” Kenna said, looking at me from the side. “Huh?” I responded. “Apparently he has been texting you this weekend and you haven't replied. He was worried. I explained what happened and he nearly drove over to your house.” Kenna explained. “Shit, yeah, I should've text him back. I completely forgot. I'll see him in a bit.” I answered. “Jane talked to him on Friday. He really likes you. We should hang out with all of us soon.” Kenna said, parking the car.
“I forgot to tell you Ken, guess who his sister is?” I asked Kenna, both gathering our stuff. She looked at me with a question in her eyes. “Hailee.” I said with raised eyebrows. Kenna laughed at that, hitting the steering wheel. “No way! That's a downer man, how can a cute guy like that have a sister like her? I mean she's nice and all but she's got zero conversation.” Kenna said, shaking her head. I nodded, seeing Javier and Hailee exiting his car together. How did I not see them together before?
I got out the car, seeing Logan and James exiting their car as well. The Maserati was parked on the opposite side of the street and I pointedly ignored it. I thought back about Friday, the conversation we had and the touches we shared. The place where he put his hand on my hip felt hot now and I suddenly felt the absence of the necklace that was gifted to me. ‘‘Chica, I got you a tea.’’ Logan said, while handing me a green tea. I never really liked coffee, tea was always the drink for me. He gave Kenna a latte macchiato and she sighed happily. ‘‘My saviour.’’ I said with a laugh, hearing a honk behind me. ‘‘Get those boobs out Tris!!’’ Jane shouted over the parking lot from the window of Rose her car. I rolled my eyes and flipped her off, getting a loud laugh in response. They weren't hanging out my shirt, but normally I had them covered more. They were my hype girls though so I didn't expect anything less.
‘‘Good morning guys.’’ I heard behind me. I turned around and saw Damon Hayes in smart clothes walking closer to us with a coffee in his hand. F*ck. ‘‘Good morning Mr. Hayes!’’ Jane and Rose said, also walking closer to us. ‘‘How are you feeling, sir? Had a hangover on Saturday?’’ James asked him. ‘‘I wasn't too bad, no. What about all of you?’’ Damon asked us, stepping next to me. ‘‘I was hanging on Saturday man, I did not even get out of bed.’’ James answered. ‘‘What's new.’’ Rose said smirking and we all laughed. ‘‘How was the date with Ms. Melissa?’’ Kenna asked Damon. ‘‘Not my cup of tea. I let her down easy, I think.’’ Damon answered. ‘‘Letting Melissa down easy? I think that's almost an impossible task. She doesn't seem like the type to be let down easy.’’ Jane said with a thought and Damon let out a grin.
‘‘I feel like love is in the air at the moment, guys. Everybody is getting all coupled up to warm each other through the winter.’’ Rose said dreamily and Logan hit her shoulder with a smirk. ‘‘You read too many sex stories, Rose. This is the time to get freaky, like our teachers.’’ Logan said with a raised eyebrow at Rose and Rose blushed deeply. ‘‘Stop it, Logan. There's something romantic about finding your person before winter. You don't want to be the last and only one single.’’ Kenna said with a glance at James. ‘‘Well then Kenna, we better find you a date, considering you're still single.’’ I intercepted and Jane let out a laugh which quickly turned into a cough to cover her laugh up.
‘‘Morning Damon!’’ I heard Kylee shout behind us. A collective sigh was heard in our group and Kylee made her way towards us. A sense of annoyance came over our group. ‘‘That's our cue to go.’’ Logan said in a whisper and we all turned to go. The group started walking and Damon and I were at the back of the group, following them.
He touched my arm with his arm. ‘‘Are you okay?’’ He softly asked me. I looked at him. What did he expect me to say? 'Yeah, just thinking about grinding on you in the club before I got attacked by some rapist and then I dreamt about you. Also, I think there's something up with you and I'm not actually sure you are human. Next to that, I think I am developing a crush on you so I want to avoid you but I would rather have you in my bed, touching your abs.. and other places..' ‘
‘I'm fine.’’ I said instead. Kylee nudged her way between Damon and I. ‘‘Good morning sir, I'm so happy to see you this early. I was wondering if I could schedule a meeting with you. I want to discuss some problems with you that I need help with.’’ Kylee said, pushing me away slightly. ‘‘I'm not your counsellor, Miss Brown. And I was having a conversation with Beatrice. This can wait.’’ Damon answered. ‘‘No, that's fine, Kylee her problems sound very serious. See you later.’’ I said, slightly sarcastic but happy I had an escape. I hoped to avoid him for the rest of the day.
I veered to the left, just in time for my first class. I had social class first and then I had culture class where I would be seeing Ms. Melissa. I ran into the building and tried to ignore the knot in my stomach.
